  • Let me take a moment and speak from the heart about my thoughts on today's turkey hunting shows and hunters.
    This video is a couple minutes longer than normal but I really believe it's important information. It's a tad bit different video than normal but I feel this must be said .

    I think my success is proof that your teaching works. I went from killing no turkeys one year, to calling in only one the next, and this season I've called in nearly 20 birds this season, killed my state limit, and even brought out a new hunter and nearly got him a limit (he got two but he missed two other turkeys). I watch your videos 90% of the time. Im still a novice but your teaching got me farther than any other teacher ive had. Thank you.

    I know you know what's going on brother . Just by listening to the way you talk . You definitely have to know the ways and behaviors of the eastern wild turkey. To become a good bird hunter . This 2024 season as been a lot more difficult from listening to other bird hunters . I had my second to the best season I've ever had this season and only got 1 bird . To me it's all about calling the bird in . I could care less on pulling the trigger . Remember this . . . When you pull the trigger . . . The show and the education are over . For that hunt . I won't even pull the trigger unless I know 99 % I'm going to kill him . I don't want him to be spooked or educated from me messing up. It's not about coming home with a bird every hunt but I'm still into the learning stages . It's a different classroom and a different teacher in every hunt for me . Central Virginia is where I attended bird school 😂

    everything he says here in correct I've been turkey hunting since 2004 and deer hunting since 1971. The only consistent thing are these hunters being set up and made to look like the gold standard. Like Dale outdoors says, put those guys on public land and see if they shine. Truth be told your best hunters are unknow hunters. No videos, sponsors or podcasts. Just the real thing. It always comes down to access.

    Again, you are spot on. I hunt public land every season, mainly because private land here in Ohio is almost all leased out. I pretty much don't go into the woods with a plan on how to hunt a turkey. Once I encounter a gobbler, what he does, decides how I'm going to have to hunt him. TV hunters depend on guides and outfitters, as you said. Most of these " Professional Hunters " wouldn't have a chance against a hard hunted public land gobbler. Your info is great, keep up the good work!

  • @davidrussell631

    This video popped up because I’ve listened to quite a few on your channel. I listened because like everyone, I hoped to learn something new to maybe be a better hunter. But the title ended up being more like a subtitle, if you ask me...and you did. I’m hesitant to comment since this is a couple years old, here goes. I wouldn’t be critical if I didn’t think you’re looking for honest perspectives. TV ratings are going down, and so I’m probably not alone in what I’m going to say. If I compare your channel with anything else I watch, it’s not some highly produced tv show that hired outfitters. It’s the other RUclips guys, most of them younger than us, that are teaching by demonstration, and getting much of it done on public land, at that. A guy I know here in my state of TN films solo on public land all the time. Filming hunts might not be your talent, so keep at what your good at, by all means. But don’t think we’d expect the video to look professional, because that’s simply not what the public is looking for now. Folks want it real and legit. As I said, I watched this because from all the others I’ve liked, I expected another helpful video. Thanks for your channel and may the Lord bless you and yours in these uncertain times.

    Your exactly right, I have 150 acres and it’s posted. It’s hard to turkey hunt with little acreage to hunt. We can only move so much to set up on birds. We gotta pull em from other farms which isn’t so easy some times especially if they don’t roost on our property.

  • @richardfalcone6954
    @richardfalcone6954 3 года назад

    Deer hunting has gotten to the point where the way to hunt is to put up some big, unsightly feeding station, and then ride a four-wheeler to your stand early in the morning, return to truck by 10 a.m., and then head back to stand a couple hours before sunset. No one knows how to scout anymore it seems, let alone know how to tell a red oak from a white oak. I really wish states would outright ban use of bait during deer season. A fellow hunter told me recently he wishes baiting during turkey season was allowed. I adamantly hope states do not start allowing baiting for turkeys. In fact, at least two states already allow this practice. On top of that, more and more hunters are switching to choke/ammo combos that can kill turkeys from 60 or 70 yards out. At the rate we're going, rifled slugs will be allowed during spring gobbler season and hunters will have to wear orange.

    Hey Dale great video me and my friend talked about the commercialization of hunting 35 years ago and we knew what was gonna happen it would be all about the money and not teaching people the real way to hunt the only thing we’re teaching our kids today is how to kill and not how to Hunt the world today is definitely a different place I grew up in the Times around Fred bear with archery and going out in the woods learning how to hunt not how to Just kill and the world was a better place but now people want success every time they go into the woods and it’s a pretty greedy world out there today And you’re right about one thing you take a guy that’s been hunting these Game farms and get any animal they want for the right price and then tell stories about the the great hunt they went on to get that so called trophy and ur right take them out in the public land where I hunt and lets see what they can do I’d give them two days and they probably give up hunting go back to their game farms hunting is a little bit different situation when It’s a one on one situation especially on public land.Well keep up the good work I hope this video will change the minds of some people and get their kids out in the real woods to teach them some real hunting skills Have a great hunting season .

    I really enjoy your videos. I am a self taught hunter, No one else in my family hunts. I hunt turkey, deer, squirrel, quail, and I fish. You are spot on in your statement. Successful harvest depends on a lot of factors. how good of a hunter you are, how good is your property, hunting pressure, size of property. All these things are big factors in hunter success. common sense, the right equipment, woodsmanship, experience, and the ability to adapt will help you score a lot more. I never took any of the hunting shows seriously! its not reality to the normal hunter. They hunt the best properties available. I have a lot of experience and high success rates. I still get my butt kicked though lol. Thats why its called hunting not shooting.

    Hey brother, thanks so much for all your videos and sharing of knowledge. I just started turkey hunting 2 days ago here in Michigan. My hunt goes until May 5th, but because of work I probably will only get back up to my uncle's farm for 3 more days this week. After that I don't know, I'll try to get out there more if I can. It's fun so far and I really like your videos because you are real and down to earth and obviously know your business when it comes to chasing gobblers. The farm I am hunting is 60 acres, 50 acres of that fields and 10 acres of woods. I know there are turkeys around because I've seen 15 or 20 of them at a time when I was deer hunting. My uncle said he's been seeing them in one particular place pretty regularly. I'm gonna watch your videos and get back out there and change my calling frequency. Thanks again for being so generous with your wisdom of the turkey woods, you are very encouraging and very kind. God bless you!

    You need to stop repeating that you need to know "woodsmanship" without giving example after example of exactly what you mean by "woodmanship".

    • @baitcandy
      @baitcandy 5 лет назад

      Woodsmanship is the ability to read animal behavior, animal sign, read the terrain and be able to use it to your advantage, know the different food sources that animals may be using at different times and why and so forth. I'm sure Matt could make an hour long video explaining the concept. Most of that type of knowledge has to be attained from spending years in the woods or on the water putting yourself into multiple encounters with all kinds of different animals, fish, etc.. doesn't necessarily pertain to just hunting or fishing either. It could be learned from hiking, digging ginseng, hunting morels etc.. Basically knowing what makes things tick in the woods or on the water. Hope this helps answer your question fella!!

    I generally like your videos. But if U would go back and listen to them and edit before posting , U could make them alot shorter and more interesting. U have a bad habit of repeating yourself over...and over.....and over.....and over. Get the point ? For example, in this video, if U would quit repeating yourself about the importance of woodsnanship, and instead cited actual EXAMPLES of what real woodsmanship actually is and how to use it to your advantage in turkey hunting, then U could teach people alot more in less time. I know all about woodsnanship and have killed my share of gobblers. This comment is just constructive criticism to make your videos better for less experienced hunters. I hope U take it in the manner it is intended. And, I'll continue to look forward to your new videos.
