  • There are a lot of hunters out there that pack it up after 9:00, and I understand completely. The gobblers stop talking, the action settles down and you think you might as well go eat some breakfast and take a nap, try it another day. That would be a huge mistake. A lot of turkeys are shot between the hours of 10 and noon. So in this video we go over three tips for hunting turkeys in the middle of the day.

    We are allowed to hunt until 7pm in Ontario Canada. I’m grateful for that. I take my folding camouflage chair and tuck it in the tree line. Very comfortable!! I find if I take a short nap then scout my surroundings I sometimes spot the turkeys close by. Maybe they are curious about my snoring. 🤣

    Big county out west I hunt them like elk . Locate visually or vocally and stalk . I hardly ever call killed one every year that way

    I'm going to an actual turkey chair this year. So much more comfortable and free standing so you don't need to find a tree that you can lean on. We have lots of rocks and pines that get sticky and lots of ants. So with the chair I can just set up. We'll see how it works.

    keep the vest, attach a pad to it. depot sells green ones for gardeners that is thick and cheep compared to hunting seats. also, if you got the ground to roam, you can call and be mobile, once in a toms "zone" if you will, he might gobble and if so sit and wait, your day is about to end.

    Highly recommend the Tidewe vest… love mine and it’s comfortable. I’m a bigger dude and I have had zero issues with it. Even use if for ground hunting set ups for deer as well.

    I agree, patients is key. Keeping still is very important. Way less calling then most. Bow no blind, lay down hen and a small jake. Avian X laydown and a Flex tone Jake. Position the hen so when he climbs on he isn't looking at you, the jake 3 or 4 feet behind her, off to one side. That way while his sub partner is beating up the jake and he is on her you can get a double, big one fist, the sub will pile on him when down.

    With pressured birds its almost impossible especially in my area to get one mid morning,hard enough at daylight,birds that aren't pressured and called to constantly will definitely cooperate better

      Less is more, hit a calm Yelp ever 30-45 minutes imitating a hen looking for a group and usually get birds walking all around me, mid season they start to learn that extremely "talkative callers" are just that and not other birds.

    Do you have any archery tips for turkey? My first hunts have been and are going to be on the ground with a bow and I've found turkey hunting with a bow is pretty hard so far (I'm also a novice hunter but a fairly decent archer). I called in one for my cousin really well and we filled his tag but I'll likely be alone for the rest of May.

      Try wearing all black in a ground blind so they don't see your draw. Sit high enough in a seat so u can be full draw and be able to shoot out blind windows. Keep bow on lap with an arrow knocked and calls close, also bring m&ms and beefy jerky. Empty Gatorade bottle to p ee in...

    • @InformedOutdoors
      @InformedOutdoors  2 года назад +1

      Timing your draw is extremely important if you’re not in a blind. Sit farther back in cover than you normally would.

      @@kylecarpenter3900 thank you for the tips! I'll have to make a blind on the fly but I'll try to set up with a seat of some kind to shoot out and draw easier. Greetings from Colorado.

      Also, wait til the bird is turned away from you full fan tail open, then make the move to draw. Take full advantage of the blind spot as you don't get many opportunities to fool a turkey's vision!
