- Laredo is also one of Texas's most historic cities as well as the gateway city to Mexico, making for one GRANDE trip. You can see the passion of these folks in the homemade foods, well-preserved culture and even their annual George Washington birthday celebration. This town is filled with the best of both Texas and Mexico!
To really immerse yourself in the true culture of Laredo, head to San Bernardo Avenue District where you’ll find tons of Mexican import stores - and my favorite is Basket and Pottery Alley. This store is packed with imports like crushed pink velvet hats, Mexican dresses and brightly colored knick-knacks.
Just walking around the San Agustin de Laredo Historic District, you can learn so much about Laredo’s history. This plaza in the heart of town is surrounded by buildings from the 1700s-1800s, like the San Agustin Cathedral built in 1872, Casa Ortiz which was built in 1830, and La Posada - a hotel that used to be the high school.
At the Republic of the Rio Grande Museum, you can learn about an era in Laredo’s past when it was its own country after the Texas Revolution. The museum, itself, is housed in the Capitol Building for the Republic of the Rio Grande and throughout it, you’ll find artifacts from that era.
This town is also home to the largest George Washington Birthday celebration in America based off a strange origin story containing both Washington and Pocahontas. Unfortunately, since filming, the George Washington Museum, home to the elegant handmade dresses worn by locals each year in the Martha Washington Ball and Pocahontas Pageant, has closed.
Taquitos Ravi is a local family-owned taqueria that was opened across the border 40 years ago but was so popular it opened locations all over Laredo - and thank goodness for that! Stop in for some of the best street tacos you’ve ever tasted - I dare you to try the delicious “tripas” tacos (deep fried intestines). You’ll thank me later!
When you need a pick-me-up, Las Amorosas serves up a mean Pina Preparada, which is a beverage of your choice poured inside a hollowed out pineapple and piled with apples, oranges, gummy bears, and so many other goodies. It’s basically a real-life candy mountain you stick in your mouth!
After a long day of tripping, head to Las Kekas for a truly authentic Mexican dinner. The menu is a tour of Mexico, with famous dishes from each region. I suggest Las Kekas’s signature namesake dish which is basically a fried quesadilla that can come stuffed with 21 different fillings from shrimp to cactus!
Get a different view of Laredo by paddling the Rio Grande where you can see Mexico right across the river! Despite what you may have heard, this river has alot of security to make you feel safe. It’s a peaceful 4 mile run filled with lush vegetation and tons of rare birds like King Fishers and Green Jays.

Great video! I am honored that you came & beautifully explained my city Laredo ❤ You missed Danny’s & Taco Palenque!
Yes, he did!
I'm from Laredo but live in Virginia. Every time I take my wife down there, Danny's and TP's is a must. I love Penguinos raspas, too.
@@rickymoreno3706how's the downtown Laredo though?
@@lucathegamer9113It sucks😞
@@user-zv4ee1vi7t what do you mean it sucks?
@@lucathegamer9113 It's alright, there's more bars than anything in Downtown. I know they have some pretty interesting coffee places there though. Notable places in Downtown Laredo would for sure be the museums, posada, outlet mall, or the college. Other than that, a whole lotta homeless, like any place.
Honestly this channel is prob the most underrated of all i watch
Thanks. Keep watching and we'll get there.
@@TheDaytripper🔭🤠 you bet
I live here in Laredo now for 6 years... You missed so many gold mines you could have done but you also educated me on some of the little Easter eggs of Laredo that I didn't know. My favorite joke about this town is the Washington celebration that me and some of my friends say, they love him because they think his name is Jorge Washington... Lol, I also had no idea about the Martha Washington coming of age and the Pocahontas pageant, those are really interesting tidbits that I didn't know. You're missing so many great food opportunities. My personal favorite is El venado. They started from the bottom and now they have themselves such an amazing establishment. Next time you're here dig a Little deeper. The locals love to talk if they think you're trustworthy, the people of Laredo are fantastical... but thank you for giving me a little bit more education on where I have fallen in love with living, this is a great watch and you are a huge goofball
The George Washington and Pocahontas contest and results used to be on tv back in the 80s. Also, if I remember correctly, the hug at the bridge used to kicked start the beg of the open bridge for the celebration days. Because Laredo used to be One City (One Laredo) until it was split in two after the US-Mexico War and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the celebration was like a reunification of Laredo as a whole once again.
The cities were so United historically that the Laredo Texas firemen would assist the Mexican firemen on emergencies by driving their fire trucks across the border.
You should try Loncheria El Popo or Pino burger next time! ❤️ best local burgers!
Don't forget glass kitchen
Cindy's burgers
Tacoskissi
Born and raised in Laredo, this video really made me appreciate my hometown and I appreciate you sharing your experience at this great city:)
My friend had a GlobalEntry appointment at Laredo yesterday, drove 4ish hours from Georgetown to Laredo, YEP , crazy right???? , a Daytrip, and I got home and THIS WAS YOUR EPISODE!!! Awesome… the appointment , took less than 10minutes , then since it was 12:45p, the Customs officer recommended Palenque Grill, SO DELISH, we took a picture of the famous Rio Grande, and we stopped at the same shop you did, THE BEST, drove around the old town, but since our trip was really a day trip, we didn’t have time to explore … it was a great experience, … overall a great day trip. Thanks Chet for documenting our Laredo trip on the same day !!!
Thanks for coming!
I love this vlog! Thanks for showing laredo in such a positive light, people who aren’t for here usually think it’s dangerous when it’s really not :) Also super happy to see Mr Miller! He’s such a knowledgeable person who really cares about the Environment and laredo
He's a legend. Thanks for watching.
Born and raise here in Laredo Tx since 1989, great video 👏🏻
Wow! Places from my childhood that my family would visit when we lived in TX back in the day. ❤ Took me down memory lane.
Awesome. That's a good trip.
Seriously, thanks for putting these videos for free. I totally understand you charging for them- they are worth the price, they are quality content. But in this market, it's hard to afford any extras like subscription services and we had to cancel our subscription a while back... but I love this show. It's just a good way to relax and reminisce about TX. It is home but jobs have kept us elsewhere for the past few years. Someday we hope to come back, but until then, watching daytripper will have to do!
I think he has to put them out for free, Texas is not really a hot spot for international tourism like New York or Florida
Born and raised in Laredo! Tnx for this! Learn so much and gonna teach my kids! Thanks you cowboy sir!!
Interesting how Laredo has that aura of its own country that has remained to this day. I live in the area my family poke fun and say when are you coming to visit us in TX 😂.
Seeing you tour my hometown was dope! ❤ those tacos look amazing I’ve never had them must go try 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Glad you came!!! I hope you enjoyed it!!
Thank you for visiting Laredo.
My beautiful hometown ♥️♥️ Thank you Chet, I always enjoy watching your shows.!
Just so you know, i'll be using ur video for one of my english classes - We're talking about representative things from the places we've been to (;
Dude. I love it.
Might wanna add that Laredo IS the only US city to celebrate Washington's bday. What school do you teach in?
I'm a 6th generation Texan and used to hunt near Laredo. Haven't been there in probably 10 years but this brought back memories. Good ones.
Funny joke...A guy was flying from NYC to San Antonio and the guy sitting next to him was losing his mind. The guy asked the distraught fellow what the problem was and he said, "I just got transferred to Texas!! Texas!! People have guns in Texas I can't live there I'm scared to death!"
So the guy asks him where he would be working and living and the guy freaking out told him, "Laredo."
Guy says Laredo? Cool I live in Laredo. It's no big deal, find a nice house in a gated neighborhood, get a good school for your kids and you'll be fine. Scared guy asks "Really? OMG I was so scared." "What do you do for a living in Laredo?
Guy says "I'm a tail gunner on a taco truck."
You for sure did Laredo justice! This is just very few of the many things that thrive here. We have a lot of amazing restaurants and interesting little shops, makes you think about the place you have lived in forEVER, haha!
Awesome Buddy
BORN AND RAISE IN LAREDO TX. GLAD YOU SURVIVED THE HOT WEATHER. ITS TO HOT FOR OTHERS. BUT YES YOU DID LAREDO JUSTICE. THANKS FOR DOING THIS VIDEO. 👍❤️❤️❤️
Haven't been in Laredo. Mexico since 2007 since my grandmother past away. We all miss going over to laredo growing up and coming back from Mexico it was just mexican food all over and coming back through the bridge man just awesome. Raspas.bolis, lemonade,Agua de melon you name it they had it all.

Thank you for coming to my city!
Rest in peace Mr. Bellizzia, I miss Las Kekas everyday.
WOW! This was a great video. I was born and raised in Laredo and you made me miss my home town. I'm regretful to say I rarely went towards the south. I'm further up north and a part of me wants to say you missed out on some great gems of the north but HONESTLY no. Lol - the food looks really good. You taught me about me about my own culture! I learned quite a bit. Also, I was in Pocahontas in high school as well and my costume was an insane amount of money. I didn't understand what I was doing at the time and I just learned all I needed with this. Thanks a lot man. Great content. You have my subscription's and likes!
Mi Laredo 🔥Born and raised ❤️
Thank you for visiting Laredo and making a great video. You forgot about something important though, Laredo is the most important port of entry in all America for terrestrial transportation. Most import and Export passes by Laredo on Bridge 3. Next time try fishing in the river too, its exciting.
Nice videos amigo.
I’ve been here in Laredo for almost 3 yrs, being a black woman, never would I have thought that there are so many prejudice people here, from being asked why are here which I thought I was still in America but obviously not, to being overcharged for automotive services to having children calling the little black kids the “N” word.
Sorry about your bad experiences But some people are just ignorant and don’t know any better. Let me personally welcome you and your lovely family to my hometown Laredo 🤗
I feel for you. I also experience some prejudice here in Laredo (I'm white), though I'm sure to a lesser degree than you. But it does exist. And I've been here 24 years.
Sorry for your bad experiences…. Don’t think we are all ignorant please.
Thank you for visiting our city.
Such a great one.
GOOD JOB AS ALWAYS…
Thanks 🤠
4:24 ternera is VEAL (not shredded meat) and 4:28 milanesa is breaded meat, either beef or chicken
I gotta say the acting during the johnny cash scene is outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t believe you eat all does tacos plus more
Everything looks delicious
Ack in 1990 I was seating in Veterans Plaza and across the street on the front roof of the post office were about 200 Green Amazon parrots. 😍😍
Weather is very bipolar here in Laredo 100 plus degrees but the tacos and snacks shops are delicious Taco Palenque, Yukon, arrandas. So good 😋
Loved the episode and places y'all visited in my hometown. Mr. Miller was my chemistry teacher in high school before he left for what he's currently doing with I think either the university or Laredo College.
I lived there for 2 years....miss the food everyday!!!
I have lived here for 15 years (Born and Raised here) and I am barely learning some of this stuff right now lol. The place here is amazing on San Bernardo is all Mexican Imports and really beautiful and when you move away from it you can see how it transitions from Mexican to Texan. lol :)
Thanks for going to the "wholes in the wall" as we call them. Miss that city. Everytime I visit, I wanna move back haha. Most people who go, visit the celebroty people like the county judge. Nope. Its these places where its at.
Esté vato 😂 ur so funny dude
But thanks for bringing a little
Feeling of laredo y amo a mis dos laredos amigo

LMAO!! He got Tourists Trap suckered in that pineapple thing. I live in Laredo Texas. It’s not something locals go out and get. It’s a tourist trap thing. 😂😂 Hope you enjoyed it. ✌🏽
8:06 what happened here?
Did anyone tell you there are gators in the Rio Grand now? Safe?!?
Incase you didn’t know, Many of the southern states were once a part of Mexico.
Mostly the Western ones.
That was only West Laredo! 😊 you missed other great restaurants for instance Paulitas.
Las Kekas > Paulitas 💁🏻♀️
Tacos Kissi > Las Kekas
Laredo Texas is a Border city full of Culture and history if you can overlook the fact that The Cartel Leader El Barbie is from Laredo Texas otherwise it's an Amazing Border City to visit near Old Mexico
This guy grabbed a tripa taco like a Hotdog 5:36 😂😂
YAYAALAREDO
Hey gringo come to Nuevo Laredo I’ll drive you! There’s also great food in this side of the border!
Bro was filming 3 mins from (San Ber) and I ain’t even know. And the border isn’t dangerous
Chad's so cool that they named a park after him!!😅😅
Haha. Not quite.
The only dude who speaks english in Laredo:
JACOB_THE_BADDIE
do not ever come back to my city or there will be hell to pay
Hahahahahhahahahahahahahahaha
“Ternera” is veal.
It is texmex if its made in Texas
I'm MEXICAN American
And used to go to Mexico really often with my parents when I was a young chavalon got family in TAMAULIPAS and Nuevo Leon and I have to give it to you
Nowadays it's really dangerous over there especially Reynosa and N Laredo
But they probably don't want the heat that would come with doing something to you
And by that I mean nothing good
Yeah. Wish we could still go back and forth.
Love my Laredo hermoso.❤🎉❤😊 with its hot weather and all 😂
Thank you so much for this excellent video. Love it very much. 🎉😊❤
Great videos! How can someone who grew up in TYX have the absolute worst Spanish accent I have ever heard.

the real mexican taco is made of corn tortilla, those flour tortilla ones look good but not like the corn ones
Booo las kekas is permanently closed
It Is? 😔 it looked fantastic. Haven't visited laredo in 15 yrs. I would have definitely stopped by watching it on this video. Anything else I should visit?
@michaeljimenez8577 I Googled it and it's shutdown. I saw the reviews, and it was negative, so even if it was open i wouldn't go . Anywho, I go to laredo for plant pots. When we stop in to eat, everything is good. way different than san antonio
That Swiss chard taco looked good. I subscribed 2 UR channel. Thank u for the reply. I miss texas but I have so much on my plate. Responsibilities. But as soon as I can , southbound I will go 😃
It had 4.5 stars with 285 reviews on Google...not too bad, especially for Laredo. @@Mestaliving85
You came god would be nice to run into you. Your invited to the carne asada my guy

Tacos Ravi was not that good! There are lots of places way better… looks nasty in the back and tacos do not have that great flavor! Never again…
