I was scratching my head over your claim the Hotchkiss shell was unfired... those grooves sure looked like land impressions but after reading up on the projectile, you're right of course. Great video.
Chigs still got it! 5 shells in one day. Ive only found 4 in my life. Lol. All on land, but still. Great to see ya doin what u do best. 5 in one day....arrrrrrr. epic!
Heading back home to the Mrs. is a nice thing to do, as long as you aren't saddling her with your dirty laundry. Otherwise she probably won't be happy you returned. I'll bet your stuff starts smelling pretty ripe after a few days! LOL Once again you have made a really nice video full of suspense, and even natural decor in the way of that leaf attached by a spiders web to your forehead. I thought at first it might be an injury and was glad when I saw it was only a leaf. What a fun day on the river.
I did not read all the comments so this may have been mentioned but the item you thought was a counter weight looks like a projectile from a Lyles Gun. I think they are narrower but that is the first thing that came to mind. If the river was bigger back in the day they may have used one to get a line across. Great hunt...thanks for the videos. NJ
P-R-E-T-T-Y good there Bo. I liked the pick axe and the wood splitter maul. My father had a lighter one, but it helps to have one handy. I think he used to call it a Come Along, but maybe not. Nice finds anyway.
The tool with the sledge on one end and the blade on the other looks very much like a long log splitter that my grandfather had. The blade started the split which then had a wedge inserted. Then he would move down the log and start another split on the same side, inserting another wedge, and so on. Then the sledge side of the tool was used to drive the wedges into the log. Done properly, you ended up with the raw materials for a split rail fence.
Nah, Dude, he said that he'd built a business , sold it, comfortably retired, and this is his hobby that he gets to do all the time! Dude, the man has 3 degrees!
Your videos are fantastic no matter what you find. I'm a big fan if you can't tell and live in south central Virginia. I'm curious if relics have been found in my area. Anyway, be safe & happy hunting.
That's a sail weight used to raise and lower sails on sail boats along with half a dozen other uses and in the 1990's at my store I sold em as RIVER ANCHORS. (At the end of your video you asked what's this?) A sail weight combination sailor item congradulations I sold em around here for 35 bucks a piece.. That one looks authentic though not the chinese crappers I sold in the store..
The large piece of iron you dug containing two holes wss most likely a railroad track side bracing plate. These are used wherever two pieces of jointed rail meet. Just a guess.... thank you for another great video sir!
The weight of it, makes it perfect for splitting big logs and stumps. The hammer head end is so you can drive it thru, if it gets stuck lol used one for years, did all my splitting in the winter, so I could work up some warmth. keep these great videos coming, Chig. and thanks for all your hard work in making them
I used a 12 pound version of one of those when I was a 14 year old kid. My neighbor, who was a "hoss" had a 22 pound "monster maul" that he used to destroy logs that would not split with the lighter (16lbs) version maul. Beau could probably put a new handle on that one he found and keep using it.
Those shells do not appear to have been fired. I wonder how they got in the river there. I often heard stories from my friends about people using old civil war ordnance as Ballast for House Boats and small skiffs. During storms they often either tried to escape up those little inlets or storm blew em in little channels where boats sometimes sank and or got stuck after the storms sometimes left as quick as they came.... I would love to hear theories about how that stuff got there. Interesting the reason I watch your videos. Some of em are just dern fascinating..
That heavy Ax like thing with the blade is a log splitter, not meant to be swung. You put the blade in the center of the log then hit the blunt end with a hammer of some kind.
Chig, have you ever found Civil War items (or ones of similar age) where you were able to figure out the exact story behind them? Like ID discs or personal items, and found out how they were lost or whatever?
I don't know how you do it, Beau. Your video's just keep getting better and better. I learn so much from you. Keep it up. You should have a tv show.
I’d watch it! He really does have the charisma for it.
I enjoy seeing you discovering and finding a home for relics. Saving history one episode at a time. Enjoyed watching and learning. Thanks for sharing.

I came across the leafs channel the other day. It wasnt very interesting tho.

Chigg, that piston shaped item you thought was an artillery shell was a maste weight off of an old sail boat or pirate ship!!! HOLD YOUR BREATH!!!!

He puts a ton of effort into his hobby
Roger Wooley detecting becomes a crazy addiction. It's like gambling, but better odds.
I think it's his full time job. With the views he gets.
Nah, Dude, he said that he'd built a business , sold it, comfortably retired, and this is his hobby that he gets to do all the time! Dude, the man has 3 degrees!
Wonder how many of your videos I can watch in one night Beau, LOL Nice Shells, I have a Shenkle Shell Sabot, found it near Culpeper.
Great finds Beau. So fun to see you

Beautiful finds! Ever worry about Bull sharks in that type of water??
Outstanding Chig, as usual.
The large piece of iron you dug containing two holes wss most likely a railroad track side bracing plate. These are used wherever two pieces of jointed rail meet. Just a guess.... thank you for another great video sir!
Holy! Awesome finds 👊🏼
Good going, Beau. Always entertaining.
Woohoo exploring with mr chiggles cool finds.
That skeeter at 3'20 second was draining your brain!
Great one!
The maul with the cutting edge is the head of a splitting maul. They are used to split firewood that is too tough for an axe.
The weight of it, makes it perfect for splitting big logs and stumps.
