  • I recently bought a Royal Enfield Meteor 350, and am slowly learning basic maintenance. I am grateful to the Facebook group who share our respective enthusiasm for the bike and riding in general, but also for the advice and tips.
As this was the first time I took to adjusting the suspension, I thought I would record my experience to see if it helps others, passing it on if you like.
I am no mechanic, just a hobbyist and enthusiast like so many other bikers.
So here is my first Royal Enfield Meteor 350 video

That's a great video Mark, thanks for posting. My rear shocks on my meteor came with the adjustment at the other end of the scale. Thanks to your video I have adjusted them to the middle. But I must say it hasn't made any difference that I can feel, the ride is still uncomfortable and jarring over any slight bump in the road, but still a great handler. My other bike, a 27 year old Yamaha xj 600 is like riding a comfy armchair in comparison. Maybe raid the kids bank account again for new shocks 😊

Hi Tamar, you will only feel difference when carrying a passenger or luggage. This demonstration is merely to change your preload setting, as to raise or lower the backend of your bike, not once comfort😜🤓

Hagon makes shocks for Royal Enfield (and the Meteor - 320mm), or you could probably get some Progressive 12.5" Harley Sportster shocks to work. Like you, even after adjustment, I still find my kidneys getting relocated every time I go over the slightest depression in the road on my Meteor. So this is definitely a future upgrade, as I plan on doing quite a bit of back road touring on my RE.

for a better experience, switch to the suspensions for Royal Enfield's Classic 350 "nitrox". This would give a noticeable difference than the preload.

Hi Mark, I’m no mechanic aswell. Learning new stuff on the flow, like you.😀 Luv the vid. I was hoping to find an answer on which setting to use for someone with a weight of 90+ kg. You perhaps have an idea?

Adjusting clock wise on the right suspension would decrease or increase seat height? Could you please confirm?

Adjusting it on the softest, depending on your weight, will give the bike the most sag when you sit on it but at the cost of possible bottoming out.

Did you soften or harden the shock absorber? What was your experience later on please do tell sir.

    This lowers the seat height??

You don't have to adjust both shocks the same. If you have the left at 2 clicks and the right at one it has the affect of a half setting on the over all suspension behavior.

Hey Phil, fair assessment of my skills, I can’t disagree there it was for a private Facebook group, many who lack skills and are helped with visual prompts. But seriously, you actually took time to write such a negative comment? Says a lot more about your state of mind than my lacking mechanical skills. Take it easy Phil, oh and manners, …get some!

'you are no mechanic, simple to do, get a grip'
And you, Phil, are clearly no writer. First rate A-Hole yes. Writer no. Were you not paying attention that day in school when they were teaching about capital letters and punctuation ?
Thanks Mark for taking the trouble to produce such a top quality and informative video. And, don't let the bastards grind you down.

Well I'm no mechanic Phil, and I found this video to be of great help. No need to be rude to some guy you don't even know who just wants to provide a reference for us who are mechanically disinclined.

Given that the meteor suspension is a bit firm I'm not sure I get why you put up the pre load of the springs, are you carrying extra weight?

    • @kevindarkstar

Oh yeah and BTW watch the rear rubber grommet on that side panel, it's prone to coming out or getting pushed in as you remove or replace the panel 👍🏻
