I remember my old Sony Xperia Z3 and Z5, I loved their lens stabilization, which the latest generation phones can only dream of, and the fact that you could record videos in 120p until you ran out of memory and you could slow down to 8X the entire video, there was also a camera function that allowed you to connect to another Sony phone and allow you to view the camera and operate it, a great solution if you want to record a scene for a movie from different points of view at the same time

Well said, sir. Great to see a RUclipsr praising Sony Xperia. I wish more did so. Aside from the photo/video capabilities the multimedia experience is fantastic. Listening to Hi-Res audio through wired and wireless headphones with LDAC or aptX HD codecs is so rare on a phone these days and watching 4K movies with Dolby Atmos/TrueHD is an incredible viewing experience. I love my Xperia 1 V.

I bought one in December after my 23 ultra stopped charging. Great decision! Better resolution, better speakers, I actually really like the aspect ratio and fingerprint sensor. Most of all is the camera. All that stuff about how hard it is to use is not true at all. It's fun to use and experiment and have full control over your pictures how you want them, not how some phone digitally makes them. I've used the slow shutter speed to capture a nice stream shot where I used motion blur on water. It's cool. Let's just say my S23 ultra is where it should be in my desk drawer. I should have tried this phone sooner and known better since I think Sony tvs are by far the best and only buy them, I should have given this a chance sooner

I have to say that I have admired the Xperia phones for years but been all in on Pixel since gen 2 and have essentially never been disappointed. But I'm also a Sony mirrorless shooter that travels a LOT and hate all the gear. Is this the phone that changes it all?
Almost! Like, so so close! I LOVE the software. I absolutely love the form factor. The dedicated shutter is so good. The camera app is also fantastic. Just as I expect from my Sony full frame.
But then I try to use the camera like I have for many generations on my Pixel, and the results are frustrating. How can such a phenomenal camera fail to snapshot? It's the easiest one, you'd think.
But it's not, if you really think about it. The environment is so varied, the computational smarts to get it right with no info is pretty daunting. And Sony's implementation is the Alpha experience on a pocket phone. That's incredible!
But then I try to get snapshots whenever. And the Xperia takes so much work to just get an impromptu photo to look right. I don't know if I can trust it.
That is the problem. I can't trust the camera.

Obviously, this is an amazing device and I'm a huge fan of Sony. Still, this seems as if it's really made more for the serious professional photographer and not so much for the average user. Moreover, the price is somewhat prohibitive. Not to mention, you'd have to be a very patient person to even use the camera application. It's an endless maze of menus and options. On the other hand, it is a technological masterpiece. It just seems as if it has a very specific audience in mind.

I started using Sony since Z, I ever switched to S22 ultra, the camera system is the best in world but it seems like lower quality on other specs like speakers have no bass tone and also screen color is over saturated, unlike Sony has keep improving the front facing speakers quality into noticeable bass tone, and provide reality color as human eyes see. These reason makes me stop purchasing future Samsung anymore and I'd go back to Sony again. Even the Sony camera is not pro like Samsung but it's still means balanced specs mobile phones for me, instead of Samsung.

One of the main reasons I bought the Xperia 1 V was for the external monitor support with Sony cameras...no one said it only works with ALPHA cameras. So I can't use it with my FX3. Huge bummer, especially since it runs almost identical software to the a7siii.
Also, the screen scratches WAY easier than my previous phones. I'm very careful with my devices. I've had the original pixel for 4 years without scratching it. Same 4 year scratch-less run with my Note 10. I somehow managed to put a deep scratch into this Xperia within the first month.
And I have noticed a few bugs that have survived multiple updates. Sometimes my fingerprint unlocks the phone but the screen turns black and I can't wake it up. I have to hold the shutter button to open the camera, then unlock it again.
The camera experience is not as good as I expected. The photos and videos are good, but the tele zoom lens is really very soft. Almost looks outta focus half the time.
My main issues are software related. Shutter priority mode is redundant. There is no variable aperture so switching into manual with auto-iso does the same as shutter priority. And having 3 camera apps still doesn't make sense. I thought it would but... I would rather have one camera app but with a cinema video in the mode dial. Doesn't need a whole separate app.
    Also wish it had s-log.
I know I'm kinda ranting into the void here but I was really stoked about this phone and feel kinda let down, especially considering the price.
Don't think I'll be buying another Sony phone.

    • @TechOdyssey
      @TechOdyssey  8 месяцев назад +4

Sounds like some software issues. Probably ought to factory reset it. That shouldn't be happening. Also, use a screen protector. Gorilla Glass 2 is very prone to surface scratches. I've experienced this a lot with other phones with the same glass. It's not a sony issue

Last month I bought my first xperia 5 series, the mark 5. Everything was perfect but... When the phone upgraded to android 14 it becomes pure garbage. The transitions between apps, scrolling, open apps, animations are terriblene, like a 2gb ram phone. They are laggy and at 10fps at thr mostly time... My pixel 4a runs smoother. I hope sony will fix it soon or I'll go to nothing 2 or pixel 8. Using this phone now its horrible. My firmware version is 67.1.A.2.182 release-keys

I once had overpriced Sony phone. It had ridiculously poor network coverage where other phones had no issues with the antenna and also this same Sony phone was the only phone I ever had that developed issue with the screen. The touch died and it was no longer usable. Would never consider buying Sony phone again.

@@TechOdyssey true... But I tested both Pixel 8 Pro and the Xperia 1 V and the connectivity and battery life was way better than Pixel 8 pro. The cameras on the 8 Pro are not like the Xperia but what helps the Pixel is the camera software with it's computational software. Sony shines on just natural photos. I do like how the Sony Xperia would take photos and I don't mind tweaking the settings to my liking because I'm a photographer. But I do feel that Pixel has better stabilization than the Xperia. The pictures on the Xperia from the front facing camera couldn't compete with the Pixel. But we're talking about the cameras and the camera software. Pixel doesn't have better camera hardware but it does have better camera software. Sony lacks in the camera software department as in computational software but that's their upside also, cuz the pictures are more natural. But other than taking photos on either phone. The connectivity and battery life was way better than the Pixel. Not once did my Xperia 1 V constantly switch between Wi-Fi and 5G like my Pixel 8 pro did. And that's cuz I would sit literally next to my router and my Pixel would say "Low Quality" for signal strength. But from the constant switching back and forth between the connectivity... The battery life was affected. But then again, what do you expect from a modem that's Exynos 5300 and also used in the Pixel 7 Pro. I honestly wish Google would go back to using Snapdragon chip. My Pixel 5a was getting better battery life than my Pixel 8 Pro.

I agree with you but not fully because the camera system still better than Sony so far even the new sensor, it related to software. For my opinion, the better part of Sony not only expandable storage, it's about audio quality, reality screen color, handy shape, professional design, exclusive button, and weight too, that's why I bought S22 ultra last year then regret it, now I have 1 V as my main phone. People always stuck on swiping social media more than others, so screen quality and audio are very important against all.

@@leonardodavinci7425 the Sony phone has an industry low 2 years of OS support, in 2023, 2024, that's unacceptable for how expensive that phone is. S23 Ultra has double that support. Also Samsung has teamed up with multiple app devs to make sure that any video/photo uploads are at the highest resolution instead of the generic, water down Android version, Sony does not have that. Honestly I know a lot of content creators and they don't use Sony phones, some do use Sony cameras that'll do a better job than the Sony phones at a fraction of the price.

I had the Xperia 5 V, and as both phones are so similar, and in general really great phones, but one thing drove me crazy and it's why I returned it. That damn side-mounted fingerprint-sensor. I already hated them before, but it seems Sony has the worst, and not upgraded it since years. I really hope that Sony will for the Xperia 1 VI or 5 VI finally use an under-display fingerprint-sensor AND finally uses face unlock as an alternative.
