With so many videos emerging of hurricane Irma this week I thought I would make a video about massive waves, just because I'm in the mood to and I thought you would all enjoy it.
The ocean is exceedingly beautiful and intimidating at the same time. There's no way I'd wanna be out there in the middle of it though! Drowning is one of my biggest fears.

I was stationed aboard the USS Dixie when it was caught in a typhoon in the South China Sea. The waves were 40 to 50 feet, and it was difficult to even stand inside the ship. Things were crashing about, anything that wasn't really secured was sliding or rolling around on the decks. Our bilge pumps had gone out due to excessive leaking of the hull due to the flexing of the ship's hull passing over the waves. We survived only due to the portable submersible pumps we had to pump the water out. We, as electricians in the rewind shop, stayed up all night replacing the wiring in burnt out submersible pumps. It was probably the most exciting, and dangerous night of my life. I'd like to think I saved the lives of 850 or so men on that ship due to my expertise and speed at replacing the wiring of the burnt out pumps. I wasn't doing it for them, but for me. I never really felt fear, but I probably should have, as the water got nearly high enough below decks to cause the ship's generators to go out, which would have meant our doom.

In early 1989, I was aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt. We were on the Roosevelt's first Med cruise. While we were visiting France, a mistral hit, and they said the waves were 60-70 feet high. There were some people taking a brand-new yacht to its new owners, but got caught in the mistral. Our S&R guys had to rescue them, and even had to go aboard the yacht to save a guy whose leg broke. It's not too bad aboard an aircraft carrier with such rough seas...I kind of felt sorry for the guys who got seasick, but I couldn't help but laugh--I've never suffered any sort of motion sickness in my life.

LOL I had my volume on super low and couldn’t hear most of the video. I was just watching the waves. The only part of the narration I heard was this part and it confused the hell out of me. I was like wait...did he say what I think he said? 😂

Except it didn't fit with the parts of the footage that were real, he should have had the funny comments either throughout the video or not at all.
Some of us do not care for sardonic commentary, there usually isn't room for that when relating a disastrous situation! It borders on cruelty to those who may have been in that kind of a situation and survived!
But, we try to remember that a LOT of these people who put up websites, are young, certainly have NOT experienced anything like they're portraying, and are simply trying to make money off of subscriptions by trying to be sensational and provide click-bait!! Like the guy above, just a GREEDY DREAMER!
And a lot of the time, they pirate their material off of other sites!

The largest Successfully measured Wave ever was the Lituya Bay, Alaska Title wave that was 527 meters or 1729 feet well over a quarter Mil high in 1958!

There are so many hurricanes in the carribean because of the way the trade winds interact with the correolus effect (pardon spelling) at the equator. There are just as many in asia but theyre called monsoons or typhoons based on where youre from.

King Axolotl some oil rigs are tethered to the ocean floor and some float it just depends whereabouts in the world you are....most in the North Sea are tethered but off the coast of the US and Mexico they float....I don't know why that is though
