These extra abstracts make me think of marshes or plains in the evening. They are very evocative. I tried some a few months ago with some success. It's are harder than it looks really, and you have quite n art there. :-)
Thank you, I am glad you gave them a go. Its a great way to get used to watercolour I think.. trying something simple but yes simple is not always as easy as it might seem! I have been looking alot at chinese brushwork lately. Some of it is extremely simple looking but no doubt very hard to achieve!
@@annamabellaedgley Chinese and Japanese work s super skilled as you know. Twists and turns of single brush marks wth different intensities along the bruah. Amazing. :-)
I'm really enjoying your videos! I have been struggling with abstract watercolour for ages now, you would think because it's abstract it would somehow be easier than a detailed landscape but to my surprise and disappointment lol its really hard! I have been trying to do a version of an abstract landscape called indian summer by Gretchen Albrecht in watercolour but so far I have wasted a lot of watercolour paper and am feeling very frustrated with myself! If I attempt to leave a link to the picture could you possibly have a look and see if that kind of painting would be a good tutorial for you to share? no problem if not, you might think it awful haha! especially as she uses a lot of bright colours but I'm so drawn to it and just can't achieve what im trying to do. It's one thing to copy a painting just to practice the technique but to try to come up with composition and colours on your own is really hard for me like I have artists block or something lol. Just a thought about the tutorial anyway as you have such an easily understandable way of teaching : ) Here's the link if it works! and also if you type in "gretchen albrecht watercolour abstract" into google images it shows a few more of her abstract landscapes in that particular style. collections.tepapa.govt.nz/object/40636
Hello! Thank you so much for your comment and your interest in my tutorials 😊 and wow thank you for bringing my attention to Gretchen Albrecht, she is a new artist to me and I love her work!. I actually love bright colours and use them quite abit in my work but I seem to meander between them and more muted colours. I checked out the link you sent and googled her also. As it is the evening I am only on my phone. Tommorrow I will look more closely on the computer. On first look I think she does most of her painting in acrylics? The colour looks thicker and more ‘blocky’ in appearance than watercolour?. I actually have a tutorial that maybe could be adapted to something more in the line of what she does. I will post a link below this comment. If you want me to I could try to do another one maybe more in the direction of her work. Its different to acrylic though, I add a medium to my watercolour called ‘aquapasto’ which thickens it up.
@@annamabellaedgley Ahh! she does them in acrylics! I think because she has used watercolours for some of her other paintings I assumed that particular painting was too but I just looked it up and apparently it was poured acrylic stained paint?! Thank you so much for the link!! how did I miss that video!! :D Your style in the link video is so similar to Gretchen, I love it!! I didn't even know that Aquapasto existed! I'm going to buy some right now lol! and a squeegee! :D what a fun and awesome way to apply the paint! P.s I've been looking up an abstract artist called Ed Clark, His paintings have a touch of landscape to them too, well to me anyway! he used to thin his paint then push it around the canvas with a giant broom! I tried it but it did NOT go well! :D it was pretty fun though :D Just though I'd mention his work as I think you would like it :) Thanks again!
Brilliant thank you! I didnt know about him. I find the aqua pasto really great because it means I can make my watercolour paints more like acrylics/ oils. I am pretty committed to Watercolours as I like how non toxic they feel and how easy to clean up. There is another artist called Paul Jenkins who threw watercolour about (apparently) although I am still not sure how he did it and also it would require alot of paint I think but I really like his work too!
@@annamabellaedgley I totally agree with how you feel about watercolours, Ive been using some watercolour ground so I can paint them on canvas, its not quite the same effect as paper but I do really like it, especially for really big canvases! It'll be awesome to use the aquapasto with the paints on canvas! can't wait to try it! Now I'm definitely going to have to see this Paul Jenkins throwing that watercolour about! love it! :D
Thank you so much Anna ! A meditative drawing experience with endless possibilities. So peaceful !🙏🙏🙏
