    I added this stock to my Ruger American .308 last year before my 2 successful deer hunts, for me the extra weight was negligible. The improvements to how the rifle felt in my hands, and the side mounted sling points made all the difference in my overall experience. As for the magazine I used the one that came with the stock and it works perfectly. Every cycle of the bolt it was super smooth and I could feel the bullet move into the camber, where the stock mag was garbage and would often fail to load a round without you knowing... until the trigger pull.
    Yes it was expensive, but for every feature that comes in the stock the cost makes sense.

    • @FFEReloading
      @FFEReloading  Год назад

      Did yours come with the rotary magazine?

    • @Greatnewhope
      @Greatnewhope Год назад +2

      @@FFEReloading Yes it did, and it was crap. Hated it. That played a big part in my going with the Magpul stock. Since I've done the upgrade and seen the improvement in accuracy, it started me on the road to continue adding upgrades so I could make it a 1000yd gun.
      Currently looking at muzzle brakes as part of the next step in my project. Any recommendations? I'm currently leaning toward the Precision Armament EFAB 308/7.62mm Hybrid Muzzle Brake.

    • @FFEReloading
      @FFEReloading  Год назад

      That Hunter stock is the reason I can't buy another Ruger American Rifle.
      Generally speaking, I believe that muzzle devices don't have to be expensive to be good. Keep in mind, I'm saying this as a guy who shoots at a 100 yards and in (I honestly haven't shot over 100 yards in years). If your main goal is to eliminate felt recoil, you might wanna look into the muzzle devices that are rated for 30-06/300 Win Mag. I can't speak on the performance, but the factory "Ruger American Hunter" comes with the same MD that they put on the RPR (Ruger Item Number: 90590). It might use a larger diameter than your factory barrel, though.

    • @Greatnewhope
      @Greatnewhope Год назад

      @@FFEReloading I would agree that expensive isn't always better, I personally liked the other features of that MD. As for the diameter of the barrel your likely correct. Funny thing is I was thinking about getting an inch (maybe 2 at most) cut from the end of the barrel. Adding any MD would increase the length, and as this is my hunting rifle I'm not really looking for longer when going into the woods.

    • @FFEReloading
      @FFEReloading  Год назад +1

      Nice. I'm too cheap to get my barrel cut.
      FWIW, the MD on the 300 Blackout is the Zev ZMD-762. (www.zevtechnologies.com/zev-muzzle-device)
      It's specifically a flash hider and comp hybrid. Interestingly enough, it seems to increase recoil. Not that that 300 BLK has any real recoil to begin with. That one is just dimpled, not drilled. Overall, I'm not impressed with it.
      On the 5.56 I'm running a Strike Ind. JCOMP gen 2. That works very well for me. Shooting 62 grainers feels about the same as 22 LR.
      EDIT: The Strike comp is pre-drilled and I believe it came with a pin.

    Great video and commentary, thanks for making it! Magpul now makes a single-stack AICS pattern magazine for .223/5.56mm that appears to feed better than the STANAG pattern for that caliber. Possibly good for 300 BLK as well?

    Good video. I am thinking about getting the Savage 110 Tactical that comes with this stock. BTW Medium Palma 1.25" at the breech and 0.93" at the muzzle. That is pretty heavy but shorter, heavier barrels give less harmonics (vibration) and are inherently more accurate. But, yeah, you really want a stock with a chassis.

      I, too, am very much interested in the Savage 110. I won't be getting one anytime soon, though. Thanks for clearing up my barrel profile confusion. Honestly, I really like the look of heavier barrels. They make a barrel channel look complete.

    I have a busy life. I may have missed it.. and i know you talked about mags at least briefly. But here in the middle of the video-ish.
    I dont think it has been mentioned that we went from the expensive rotary (4 round short action) mags to AIC mags... Truely free floating the barrel was ABSOLUTELY worth the upgrade (the weight i could have done without) but oh yeah i can load up a ton of PMAG 10 AC's?!?!
    Worth it. Absolutely worth it. Sorry if i missed you mentioning it. If weight isn't a major non-negotiable... Make this upgrade, you'll love it.

    I tried a Magpul Hunter stanag stock for my Ruger American Ranch 300blk and I had nothing but problems. First it would bind up the bolt after firing the first round. I contacted Magpul customer service and was told to install washers between the magwell and stock. That fixed the bolt lockup issue, but then the round would not feed correctly from the mag. Reading around in forum there seems to be many issues with trying to use these stocks on 300blk rifles, and the only fix seems to be using the 5.56 AICS Pmags in a stock for them.

    I love everything about this stock except for the bottom of the butt stock, I don't understand why they shaped it like that with the cutout. I like shooting prone and using bag riders on my rifles, and that cutout is NOT friendly to shooting in this manner. I don't want a bag to lock the rifle in place, I want the rifle to be able to move straight back and straight forward, locking the rear into place is going to want the barrel to rise upon recoil. I see No way of being able to set this stock up to allow for fore and aft movement on the bag. Sucks because I didn't really want to spent $1000 to set up a MDT chassis on this $500 rifle. Other than this issue for me, the rest of the stock looks amazing for the price.

      I noticed the Hunter 700 (& 700L) stocks are cheaper than all the other centerfire Hunter stocks. Paraphrasing what you said; the other centerfire Hunter stocks come with the BAMW + a 5-round mag, so the price is adjusted for that.
      Side note; I used to want a Remington 700. The reason I don't anymore is because I'm gonna end up changing the stock (and likely the barrel). For all that, I might as well "build" the rifle instead of buying it.
