Hi everyone! Thank you for watching my video! I have been getting a TON of messages lately asking about the weight of this rifle. I finally weighed it and the complete setup weighs 11.10 pounds so it is definitely not a lightweight. I will be doing a full write up on this soon! It will have all the specs and details so stay tuned.
@@KeystoneCarry I live where theres a lot of high grounds and hills all my guns are multi tasking there my hunting guns and prepping guns or if im out hunting I don't wanna keep reloading when I can just throw a new round in
I have the 6.5 Creedmoor version of this rifle. I have the same exact stock also. 300 is a lot of money to me. But this stock is definitely worth it. Changed the rifle completely. This gun is solid. Best predator gun i have owned. This man is telling the truth!!
I have 5 Ruger Americans, now, 3 Ruger Ranchs, and 2 Predators, 1 in 6.5 and the newest in Go Wild 308. I did not want to add the weight of the MagPul Stock, 3.0lbs(magpul) vs 1.8lbs (Stock Go Wild) so I add "Rockite" to fill in the forend gaps, this is an old trick to reinforce Savage Axis stocks is where I learned it. Adds minimal weight, and the stock is now rock solid and free floated completely even with the bipod on. So far the 6.5Creed is landing hits at 330Yds on a 2" gong consistently, and scores hits all day long at 1000yds, and the 308, is shooting 1/3MOA consistantly out to 330yds. 308 wears a Vortex Viper HST scope 6-24x50 First Focal, 6.5 Creedmoor wears a Nightforce 5-25X56 First Focal. Why Invest so much in Optics on a $400 rifle? Because WITHOUT a custom barrel or action work, All 5 Rifles shoot SUB MOA out of the box and the Predators shoot 1/3MOA or BETTER.
Ruger Americans are a well kept secret. I have one (Ruger ranch) in a .450 bushmaster, added a Timney trigger with a leupold 3-9 ultralight. I live in PA and bought it for a carry gun in the big woods. I love the action, the tang safety and light weight. Being a lefty, I may get a predator model in a .243 or 7mm-08. Good video.
i was skeptical too on the ruger americans. but i bought one about a year ago and it still surprises me how the low price really doesn't reflect on function and reliability. I've had more fun shooting it than i have my ar15s. i got the american ranch in ar mag 5.56. I've been itching for a 308 and i was seriously considering a savage 110 scout but am leaning more and more towards another american. i love my savage 22-250 as a longer range tack driver but again more $ for the savage. thanks for the very informative video, you did a great job.
I purchased the original RUGER AMERICAN 308 Short Action RIFLE when it first released and shot it for years and always hated the stock magazines. My accuracy was always great and decided to upgrade to the Magpul stock with M-LOC accessory rail attach points and military quick release swivel sling and QD quick release system and was blown away buy the ergonomics improvement. The combination of new 10x Vector Marksman fixed power MRAD scope and I am very pleased with the results. I have shot all of the big name BOLT action rifles REMINGTON 788, 700BDL , Winchester 64 , RUGER 77 action rifles and I love the AMERICAN bolt design its fast reliable and makes functioning the bolt fast and effortless compared to the stiff Remington designs. Thanks KeystoneCarry for the video good luck in your target fun rifle build sir and want to learn more about your awesome Vortex HST scope.
Killer looking rifle dude. For me I think I’m gonna order the savage 110 tactical which already comes with an adjustable lop and cheek piece for 600 bucks
as a fellow pennsyltuckian, you sold me on this build. This will be my first 308 and really looking forward to doing this build. good video and cheers buddy.
The way I look at it, you're basically buying a barreled action with the Ruger American pred. Im waiting on mine, as soon as I get it it's immediately getting a timney trigger, Magpul stock, and decent vortex optics (viper HST). This will be my hunting, truck, shtf gun. I will never out shoot the gun.
found your channel thru this video - just this one and the follow up you did a year later - very well done and you have a new subscriber and notifcations are on
This review had me one step closer to buying an American. I'm not crazy about the bolt and it's machining when handling in a shop. I'd have to fire one. Great content though. Thanks again for the review.
I have the same rifle and stock in 6.5 creedmoore. I have the vortex pstII 3-15x44 mrad on this rifle as well. The stock is by far my favorite improvement on the rifle. Anarchy outdoors sells a replacement bolt lever and knob that seem to make the bolt throw smoother and lighter.
Love the video. However you said “well talk accuracy later” (paraphrasing). And we didn’t 😢. I’ve got Remington 700 SPS Tactical build with same chassis and scope. Shot .564” at 100 yds with 168 grain hornaday American gunner
I have pretty much an identical set up minus the scope and I ditched the ASR system for the omega and went with a Rearden Atlas and for the price its pretty shocking how accurate it is. I have shot it against other rifles that cost 2x as much and held far better and solidly consistent groups with off the shelf hunting ammo.
I just bought the American ranch in 5.56 and topped it with a nikon P223 scope. It's lightweight and looks to be a nice shooter. A big plus is it takes my AR mags and I have a ton of 5.56 and 223 to feed it. Some complaints about the stock but a bunch of fixes too. I'll get shooting before I tinker. The magpul stock would add too much weight for hunting and long distance stalking. Another plus is that since our gooberment banned my AR and Mini 14 I have a legal 223.
I like your setup a lot. I'd recommend always lower scope never raise your cheek & run tall rings.. If you can get your bell 1/8 inch off the barrel that's how I'd do it 👍
Nice build and video. Really admire the work you did with your rifle. I also like your acknowledgement that these were your opinions. I have all the long guns I need but your video is excellent for those wanting a great " game getter" at an reasonable price. Excellent video and appreciate the honesty! As some have said , would have loved to see the shooting results. Semper Fi
I built almost the same rifle and love it to no end. I use it for varmint hunting and love it's accuracy. Even when it gets hot. The factory stock went to shit when it got hot.
I have a ruger American in 30.06 and that looks like what I need I’m having a lot of trouble getting eye relief with the stock so I’ll check it out thanks for sharing
When I saw you first post this rifle, I was in shock because it was the exact build that I had in mind. Good info! Thanks for further selling me on this setup
Thank you! I didn't know exactly where my 308 journey would go but I am very pleased with the ruger. I will do some more in depth videos of accuracy and subsonic ammunition soon.
I found that I could build it every bit as accurate maybe more in an AR10 platform. This is a lot easier than most think but I do have more experience than most but the great thing about the firearms community is help is easy to find no matter what platform you want.
Awesome video! I've been watching how people have liked to hunter stock. It is definitely on my to buy list when I get a little extra money. I've had my .308 Predator for about 2 years and love the rifle.
Great video! Very informative with a lot of good information! I’m looking hard at the Ruger American in 308, this is helping in my decision making. Thanks!,
Really nice build. The Magpaul stock looks nice. Too bad rifles are expensive where I live. I spent close to $800 on my son's Ruger American, no scope or anything.
I was looking at this and the MVP as a “small” post deployment gift to myself and was originally leaning towards the MVP but I think your video has me swayed. Thanks!
Although I am all for experimenting, if my math is correct from what you said, 400 for rifle, 300 for magpul stock, 700 for scope, 200 for rings, and maybe 100 for bipod. Total build roughly $1700. My local big box retailer has package deals on Remington 700s and Bergara B-14 HMR packages that are the same price ready to go with premium adjustable stocks, bipods and optics. I’m all for the DIY but am just curious how this actually makes a better option than the others.
great video, you seem really excited about this build. I just got the Ruger American Hunter 6.5 CM 22", comes with that stock. Got the Vortex Viper PST II 5-25x50. I'm excited to shoot it.
Super solid rifle, this is the exact kind of build I'm looking for to get into long guns. Appreciate your honest feedback man. Also, I need to know what hoodie that is you're wearing in the parts where you're in the shop, speaking.
Nice setup. People love to knock these set ups as not being as good as actual sniper rifles. But for their purpose and cost they make great hunting rifle. Having lugged around a full length 700 with a McMillan stock, I can appreciate the lighter stock, shorter barrel, and lighter scope.
Nice for sure...but considering the $ investment, the precision rifle series with a nice scope is seemingly on par in price and application. But to each their dream build...it does look great though, congrats.
Great video man. Have you used this hunting yet? I’m debating between the 308 and the 6.5 cm. I like the 308 caliber better for hunting and availability of ammo but The only thing I’m worried about is losing velocity with the shorter barrel on the 308.
These ruger americans typically have 20" barrels, youre maybe losing 100 FPS compared to anything longer. honestly when the barrel hits 16-18" youre losing closer to 200 FPS vs. say a 22"+ barrel. You'll get .5 MOA @ 100yd easy with these if you're a semi-experienced shooter. Ive seen some people do well with these @ 300-500 yds even so I'd say for hunting these are worth it for the budget.
with .308 you just have to compensate on distance drop more but with how much money youll be saving in the long run on ammo cost vs. 6.5 creedmoor....you can put that money towards other upgrades on the gun....when push comes to shove if you dont make your own loads, id go with .308, just my opinion tho
I like your rifle and I been checking all kinds of 308 caliber and I took a desition for the rugger and now that I saw your video what you build with the rugger it's exactly what I want so if you can help me with that I will preciate it.Thank you and keep it up.
An open cardboard box, facing up or towards the action, will catch the ejected cases. A large fluffy towel would work almost as well to keep the rounds from rolling off the bench. . . .
I haven't given up on the Ruger Americans but my predator in 6.5 Grendel wouldn't shoot anything under 1.5" and most were 3" groups. Bought a rem 783 16.5" HB-T and it shoots like a custom rifle with anything from cheap steel case to match ammo it just doesn't care it's a true tack driver
Was thinking of building an AR 10 but the more I think about it I just need a Ruger American in 308. Just as fun and the way prices are for everything, it only makes sense.
I am looking to buy this Ruger American 308 18” barrel and this stock really intrigues me. Is there a website or link you can give me so I can look up more specs and possibly purchase.
I love the video. I also bought the ruger American predator I had the same plan to upgrade mine which is what I did I also bought the mapul stock and the magpul bipod I put a Leupold scope on mine because I love their glass. mine is the 6.5 Grendel I love this cartridge at 300 yards im keeping groups at about 3/8 inch. I am now a subscriber to your channel keep it coming thanks
Bought a American Hunter Magpul short action with vortex crossfire Ii, vortex bubble level , blind and red/green light on top of scope goes 200 yards , long mag , custom lever for $950
This summer i shoot a few euro hunting rifles like Blazer for 6000 usd and other and the Ruger American. And damn did the Ruger shoot and loved the bolt handel and the angel and the trigger. Amazing rifle and the stock is Amazing have it on nu 10/22
I have been thinking about getting this rifle and its little brother in 5.56 using the AR15 magpul magazines with the 5 round limiter for hunting purposes
What’s the final weight of your rifle in the magpul stock? No scope, bipod, or can, just the bare weight of the action and stock? I’m trying to decide between going this route or the Bergara B-14 HMR but the HMR is heavy at 9.5# bare weight.
What size scope rings did you choose for this rifle? I used high height since I think it gives me perfect alignment with my cheek weld, but I know everyone says go with lowest possible. Just curious which route you took.
Hi everyone! Thank you for watching my video! I have been getting a TON of messages lately asking about the weight of this rifle. KeystoneCarry is that weight with bipod, and suppressor added? Or just the gun & scope?
@@adambradford4918 That is with everything on the rifle.
@@KeystoneCarry Are the Current Ruger A rifles that come with magpul stock the same one with aluminum chassis like yours?

Love the trigger on my American 243.
well, request: 1 - actual shooting; 100-500+ yards. 2 - grouping. 3 - preferred grain for distance (accuracy wise). 4 - disassembly/assembly/cleaning. 5 - comparison. vs idk 700 .308 thanks
Great stuff, just got the American predator and debating the magpul. Thank you!
I’d love to know Total weight and accuracy details .

great job! have me sold on it already. i will get this in .308
Nice gun for hunting
Really nice build. The Magpaul stock looks nice. Too bad rifles are expensive where I live. I spent close to $800 on my son's Ruger American, no scope or anything.
Thnx. Been looking at this very rifle and stock combo. What improvement did yuu see in your groups/accuracy? Would love to know. Thnx.

I was looking at this and the MVP as a “small” post deployment gift to myself and was originally leaning towards the MVP but I think your video has me swayed. Thanks!
I was interested in the MVP, too. However, I have been hearing a lot better things about the Ruger in terms of accuracy.
Yeah I love that stock. And for the scope I have the vortex viper pst 4-16x50 first focal plane. Good build brother

I couldn’t agree more. It makes no sense to be quite honest.
Doesn’t have a bolt lock either, 700 has a bolt lock which is a huge selling point for me
Great video man!
Please make a video of long range shooting with this gun.
great video, you seem really excited about this build. I just got the Ruger American Hunter 6.5 CM 22", comes with that stock. Got the Vortex Viper PST II 5-25x50. I'm excited to shoot it.
Sharpe makes a sweet stock called the "heat seeker"
I use my ruger compact in 7mm08 for long range and deer hunting. Threaded 1/2x28 use same flash hider
Awesome build. Would love to see some shooting for accuracy
Fantastic vid, I wanted to know if this specific model allowed silencer option and you delivered with extra. Thanks!
How is the rifle now? I did mine over. Love it. 5 rounds at 200 yards in a nickel
Nice build with that predator platform👍
So Sick!!! Got's to have one!
Hello, do you happen to remember the height of the vortex scope rings?
Thank you. Great build
About to buy the predator and just wanted to see what kind of potential it has, Looks awesome.
I have this rifle and that same stock, love it
Magpul stock is only $199 @ Primary Arms! :) - You're welcome
Yup, you can buy the rifle, and the stock separate for cheaper.
@11B thats awesome!!! Great deal.
Damn, I'm paying 340 Euros over here in Europe..
@11B What website? I love Of green

What’s the final weight of your rifle in the magpul stock? No scope, bipod, or can, just the bare weight of the action and stock? I’m trying to decide between going this route or the Bergara B-14 HMR but the HMR is heavy at 9.5# bare weight.
Great review. What ammo gives the best accuracy?
Good review. I like the flow of your content and presentation. Easy to watch.
What size scope rings did you choose for this rifle? I used high height since I think it gives me perfect alignment with my cheek weld, but I know everyone says go with lowest possible. Just curious which route you took.
