Marian Hossa was that player the Hawks needed to help win multiple Cup he brought his leadership and experience to the Hawks in the 09 off season he was that good. Hossa is my favorite all time NHL player glad he won the Cup 3 times with favorite team.
He was always one of my favorite players to watch growing up, I definitely tried to emulate how Hossa played when I played hockey as a kid, in his prime the speed and strength plus the defensive capabilities he had were in a tier of their own. He will go down as one of the best power forwards ever in my opinion, and he will definitely make the hall of fame.
It was such a bummer when he found out he was allergic to the equipment material. My uncle is from Greece and watched every game of the 2010 season in a Hossa jersey
@@WindyCityHawkey without him Toews would have never been the generation leader he became in that 2010 season. On top of that Hossa was lethal in front of the net which went well with Toews great game sense, takeaway game, and corner battling play, along with Patrick Sharps speed and game sense. He was perfect, and everything they needed to complete their dynasty team. I’m so glad he became a Hawk. It’s sad he’s retired now, but he will never be forgotten.
I remember going to Trencin for the parade in Slovakia when Marian won his first. He was about two meters from me and I jokingly said to him, Marian, lets go for a couple more, he just looked at me and laughed... Who knew :)
First year he requested to be traded to a contender if he was going to be delt at the deadline and ended up on a top team , then as a free agent he signed a one-year deal (unusual for an elite player) to a team he thought had the best chance to win (and was previous years winner), then he decided to sign a long-term deal with a up-and-coming team that was bound to be one of the best teams in the league for years to come (with Toews, Keith, Kane, Seabrook all locked up and entering their prime). It happened because he kept choosing to go to teams with the best chance. What's really unusual was an elite player being on 4 different teams over the couse of 18 or so months.
Paul WT yup and when Kane actually tied the game late in the third it was the same exact call "KAAANNNE" you have to know who is on the ice and even recognize the 81 vs 88
Marian Hossa signed 1 year deals in the prime of his career. Most players want long term with big money, this guy didn’t care... Just wanted to win. You have to respect that.
@Raipe 47 You sign a contract for a year and when you leave after a year, you are backstabber. Ok then :D. Not to mention 8 years in Chicago and 6 years in Ottawa...
@NM I'd say Hossa definitely got the last laugh on the Pens. He was on the only dynasty of the cap era, the team that stole the era from the Pens. And the Hawks absolutely owned Pittsburgh during the entire time, leaving little doubt who the best team of the era was.
Hossa is one of the great examples in sports history of a guy completely changing his career narrative midway through (or later) despite already being a super well known long tenured player. No one now even much remembers this team-jumping, cup-chasing interlude in his career. He is now known just as a Hawks dynasty legend guy. But at the time... this was his identity.
Probably one of my top 5 favourite players of all time. He was a beast on every team. Guy was a true champion, could have taken a leading role on any team, but chose to be a depth piece for the glory.
Eh it was a lot more than just him that caused it. The back end of their D aged out/got traded, their support scoring aged out or got shipped out, and Crawford's concussion and other issues basically ended his run. He was still playing on the Hawks team that won the West in 2017 then completely no-showed in the first round, got swept, and officially put the good era to rest.
Marian Hossa is my favorite all time NHL player and when he came to my favorite team in the 2009 Off season he was that player the Hawks needed to get over the hump. Chicago misses the Hossa let's get him in the Hall of the Fame this year. #Hossa4Hall
It definitely was good to see Hossa finally lifting the Stanley Cup with the Hawks in 2010, much relief for Hossa after coming up achingly short with the Pens in '08 and Red Wings in '09.
people dont seem to remember how well him and crosby played together. well over a point a game and almost half a goal a game in a whopping 24 games together. give them an entire offseason of chemistry built up, and entire season playing together, no way hossa doesnt push for 60 goals with sid the next season, assuming both stayed healthy. without a shadow of a doubt the best winger sid ever had. its not even close. instead crosby had to score 50 on his own and win the cup. i think both players are likely happy how their careers panned out from there haha. but that 08 pens team was unstoppable. if theyd just figured out sooner that they needed to be physical against the wings rather than just laying down and dying in games 1 and 2, pens probably wouldve won the series. they lost 2 games all playoffs up to that point.
I think Hoss was capable of more goals than he chose to score for Chicago (where he focused more on the two-way game for a d-first team and let the younger guys score more of the goals), but I don't think he had a 40 goal year in him after coming to Chicago, let alone 50 or 60. He was aging and his offensive touch just was rarely there for the Hawks. He seemed constantly snakebit on offense for most of his tenure.
Marian Hossa pulled a Kevin Durant move on Penguins multiple years before KD did, but he paid for it by losing the next year, and was rewarded for his struggles in 2010, 2013, and 2015
corey perry matched feet appearing in 3 straight finals with 3 different team, with dallas in 2020, montreal in 2021 and tampa 2022,all losses unfortunately
The real deal James Neal just about did the same thing as Marian Hossa? Going to the cup final with Nashville Predators in 2017 then the 2018 Vegas Golden Knights and after a disaster with the Calgary Flames.
Good it didn’t happen till 2010 so we could have those years of making fun of hossa in Pittsburgh “theirs a new drink at Starbucks it’s called a hossa it comes without a cup”

The second thing, what was the chance that two same teams will meet at SC final two years in a row? After he left DET never made it to SC finals, PIT needed 7 long years to get there. For hockey it's amazing story and also for him. How many players played with Crosby, Datsyuk, Kane, Toews? After season 2008-09 he decided to leave DET and play for Chicago together with his friend T. Kopecký. He signed long-term 6 years contract. CHI had young team, but no one expected they win Stanley cup in first season. Look what happened to Chicago after his retirement. They weren't able to qualify for play-off... No one can deny, that he's a true legend of NHL and hockey, one of the most underrated players of our time... Everywhere he played he was one of the best players. He wasn't just random guy, that happened to play for good teams.
He is very loyal to Slovakia. Why should he be loyal to Pittsburgh? They would not hesitate to trade him for draft picks, like NHL teams always do. So your claim ks ridiculous.
Hossa is one of the best two way wingers I ever seen.
kane's offense and toews defense
The Flat Cuber you couldn’t be more wrong
Loved Hossa in Ottawa

I know it’s controversial but.. one of the greatest players of all time.
Him getting the cup in 2010 was one of my favorite moments outside of ovi getting the cup in 2018.

It was crazy those 3 years when Hossa made 3 consecutive cup finals on 3 different teams. Like what are the odds?
Well.. her kept joining the winning team. Id say the odds were pretty good✌️

When I moved to Ottawa from Calgary and hopped onto the Sens bandwagon Hossa was my favourite player for them
@Vlade Jayko agreed man. I remember that very vaguely but i do remember that game 7. Remember Langenbrunner also getting 2
I had a Marian Hossa hockey card when he was in the sens. Been a fan since
As a Sens hater, Hossa deserves to have his 18 retired as well as Chicago's 81.

Being a wings fan, him winning the cup was the only good thing about the hawks winning the cup.
Us hawks fan will accept that statement lol
What a phenomenal player.. Hawks suffered quite a bit after he retired due health problems

@ratmfan223344 he is eligible this year
What about retiring his number?
Hossa is the best backchecker I've ever watched
Hossa close to the net was always lethal. It’s no wonder he was such a valuable piece of that Toews and Sharp line on Chicago.
Just watched a document with Hossa on slovak tv, such a humble guy. Has he ever fought anyone in NHL?
What a amazing player.
