My name is Dieter Melhorn and I like your channel and your videos. If you were a catfish, what kind of catfish would you be and would you eat cut bait or only live fish?
HI Dieter Melhorn and thank you for liking my channel and videos. If I were a catfish I would be a big old flathead that only eat live fish!!!!!
😂
Ya'll ain't got no sense lol
Dieter Melhorn Fishing I like my fish fried in canola oil , so I can’t be a catfish but I sure do love it , when them ol big fat flathead go around and around under my boat , and you can’t pull them up , makes people peee their pants.
Dieter.... You aint right man....LOL... Chris...I used to live at the Greenup Dam. Tried to catfish with bass rods and reels cause that was all I had. Hooked big fish there I couldn't do anything with. They eventually broke off.
Another great video from an ambassador to the sport of Catfishing !!! This is one of my “Must-Watch” channels for 2019
Thank you thank you thank you that means a lot to hear positive things like this!!!
you caught more on that one trip than i have in 6 months here in southeast nc dunno if the hurricanes got em messed up or what great video keep on fishing!!
Thank you and hopefully fishing will start to pick back up for you soon. Thanks for watching
Great video as always.. love seeing how much you enjoy being out there..I can’t wait to get back on the river after all the flooding. Merry Christmas
Man I truly do love it, it's my happy place lol. But I love being able to teach you all and share information just as much. Merry Christmas
Chris great video as always. The only problem I see in this video is that I am not in it! LOL. Hope you had a great Christmas. And may the Lord bless your new year. See ya soon my friend.
Thank you we had a great Christmas and hopefully you all did as well.
I love fishing the Ohio River keep up the good work man
The Ohio river definitely has a special place in my heart as well. Thanks for watching
great day of fishing
It sure was, thanks for watching
Only been in the Catfish fam a little over a year and just want you to know if learned alot from your videos. From fishing to reading a sonar and contour maps thanks
Great vid Chris!!! Thanks for sharing !!
Thanks Scotty and thank you for watching.
Love watching you catch them blues Chris. What boat ramp you using down there on that part of the river?Wanting to find some new places to fish.Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thanks Ricky and that's the KY ramp in Greenup KY
Great show Chris
Thank you
Great show Chris Merry Christmas 👍👍
Thank you and Merry Christmas
Them fish gave you a work out But that is how the fish in the Ohio River go.
Nice catch would like to go fishing with ya
The towboat looks like it was hauling a dredge. Have you ever fished at Pickwick TN?
When you fish that way you anchor out front and let current hold boat straight
Yep that’s correct
@@slungercatoutdoors have to thank you came to grand lakes today and fish catmasters using you Kentucky rig and caught some good fish thanks for all tou help with tour videos
Chris nice fish, when did you get the new SeaArk, nice, have a Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and your family bro
Hey Jesse Gomez I've had this one for about a year now and love it such a solid boat. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas to you and your family as well.
@@slungercatoutdoors I've seen your white boat in alot of your other videos first time I see you in the red one, unless I was watching you fish than looking at the boat, keep the videos coming Bro
I found some freeze killed gizzard shad at my local lake in kansas and collected them. Thinking I might try Kaw point for some blues soon. Does that sound like a good spot? Its where the kansas river terminates with the missouri river.
Hey Denny normally where two rivers meet makes a good area to fish for sure. It’s hard fo me to say for sure but I believe it would definitely be worth a try!! Let me know what happens
@@slungercatoutdoors alrighty thanks!
What river were you fishing
Great video. Did you wrap your rod handles or they come like that. I wrap my own but wondering if there is a better way. Thanks
Thank you and yea I wrapped them myself.
@@slungercatoutdoors if you ever get a chance would love to see a video of you wrapping the handles
I do need to rewrap a couple so I could probably handle that while it's cold and the river is up.
I could send you pictures of m a NY 100 pound days on the river. I am trying to learn a massive lake. I am catching fish. A lake is not a confined river. There is still a river channel. I hope it is more productive this winter. What is your advice on big lakes.
Nice fishes!!
Thank you Sir
Nice video brother keep it up. I hope i can get out thier and catch some and drop some vids
Thank you and good luck when you do get out and fish.
I would like for you to try using a Downrigger’s to catch some catfish
I’m in Detroit Michigan it’s cold but I still get out
Chris, are your rod holders on the very back of your boat monster rod, are they 8?" Ext or 12" ?would you suggest that over a rod rack?
Randy those are on 8 in ext and yep the rack took up so much room in my boat. It’s much nicer this way in my opinion. Thanks for watching
What are your rod setups?
I c a lot of money, most fishman can't afford just the fishfinder on your boat, must less rods,& reels?a any way good luck!
Thank you and thanks for watching.
New Subscriber...……… I'm Just off the Ohio in Indiana . Enjoyed the video
Thank you for subscribing hope you enjoy the videos!! Don’t forget I do a video viewer Friday video in which I take everyone’s questions and turn them into videos. So make sure to ask them questions!!!
Yes sir you can out think yourself quite easily..I know, done it many times...I enjoyed watching...If you can I would like to see how you load your boat by yourself...The ramp I use is pretty shallow and the back tiers of the truck are usually in the water. It's a balancing act by yourself...
It can be very tricky at times but I'll see if I can't get a video together about that. Thanks for watching as always Mike.
Man it’s good to see somebody catching fish, thanks for the tips. Merry Christmas to ya.
Thanks Glenn and Merry Christmas to you as well.
Wish we could use more than two poles, lol...
It's definitely nice in the river.
Them first 2 fish u caught was good eating
Enjoyed the video I Also target creek mounts on a large reservoir here in Oklahoma and winter time is my favorite for blues and I am with you on the hot coffee. I never go fishing without it. Lol.
... Thanks for the video!!!
At 9:42, when you had the Boga and reached over the side, all I could think of is, PLEASE DON'T drop it!!! 😗🤪
Mine has a float on it and I use the handle loop.
.Thanks again!!
. Jeff .
Chris , where did you launch your boat and is it open year round? Did you catch your shad back in a creek? How deep were they?
Thanks Randy Roberts
Thanks for watching Randy Roberts and I normally put in on the KY side near Greenup KY
Thanks for replying Chris ,what about the shad? Back in the creek?how deep? Is the boat ramp above greenup dam or below,? Is the ramp open all year?
Randy its above the Greenup Dam and is open all year but shad can be difficult at times so I would recommend bringing bait if you could.
@@slungercatoutdoors,thanks just trying to find places to fish if the river EVER becomes back to normal so you can fish, live in Cincinnati or part of the river has really been hurt by the CF people ,I have a freezer full of skipjack, I personally have had better luck on shad ,do you think the skippys would work up that way?
Thanks Randy Roberts
This section of the Ohio river is in bad condition as well due to the Commercial Fishing over harvest that's the main reason I hardly fish it any more. But if you do make it over this way skipjack do work well in the warmer times but I have better luck on cut gizzard shad in the winter. And your very welcome!
Great video, I really enjoyed watching. Thank you for uploading.

Thanks and thank you for watching
Did anyone see the bite at the time 4:43
What kind of line is that yellow line?
That’s Ande monster 50 lb good stuff
Thanks Chris, you are most definitely one of the few people on RUclips to respond consistently to your followers, well done. Randy Roberts.
Thanks Randy, I definitely try and really enjoy the interaction with everyone.
Wow Chris now that is a high-quality learning video there!!!! I love it I can't even believe you got two thumbs down unreal!!!😤😤😤😤... I'm clearly late to the party. You have great content. Sorry it took so long to find you, but I'm glad I did. Thanks for the great content, I'm looking forward to getting caught up!
Great video, Chris! Hope you and your family have a safe and Merry Christmas!
Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and your family as well
Also I love that you say God provides. I too believe ever fish is a gift from god, from the box size to the wall size. Fisher of men to Fisher of anything that swims.
Where is this in relation to Cincinnati? I never see fishing boats there it seems. Just barges.
Way up river Waucheesi one. I live about 2 1/2 hrs from Cincinnati
@@slungercatoutdoors Good deal. Have had in laws that lived right on the river up in Cincy and all I ever saw was barges. My father in law lived just above lake level to the point that the barge's bright spotlights would wake me up shining in the window. I thought most everyone in Cincy area headed on up to the Great Lakes from the few people I talked to at the Bass Pro Shop up there. Thanks for the response and keep at it!
Thanks for the great information!
Can you give me a list of launch sites on the Ohio in Indiana? Please. Thank you!
Another great video my friend. Thanks for taking us along with you on your Catfishing Adventures. I can’t wait to meet you at the Catfish Conference. Merry Christmas Chris, God Bless America 🇺🇸
Thank you and like wise buddy I can't wait to get down there and talk to everyone. See you there
Buddy the river up here in Huntington is higher than a giraffes butt right now.
You got that right lol!!! Maybe sometime next summer it will get back to normal.
Same here in Arkansas, I went down a couple days ago, all the Dam gates were open and water over the break wall. I need to start fishing for some Skipjack
My kind of guy, never let the temperature keep me from fishing. If I get to work in I can fish in as well. 💯
Chris are you double-anchored in this video or are you just using one anchor or a anchor / sock combo?
Single anchor and drift sock to hold me tight.
@@slungercatoutdoors Thanks! I'm gonna have to get me a sock. Sometimes the double anchor just isn't worth the setup hassle.
They make life so much easier!!! I highly recommend you pick up a couple.
Great day there,Keep em coming gets me trough long hours of work till i can hit the river.
Awesome glad to be able to help! Thanks for watching
I think all weather men lie I never trust em I always have my rain suit and jump suit
That definitely the truth lol!!
Fun to watch man. I’m embarrassed to say, I have never fished for cats in the winter. Gonna do it now.
Thank you and don't be embarrassed lots of people don't know it can be one of the best times to hit the water. Good luck if you get the chance to make it out.
Thanks for your service brother - Have a Happy New Year
Thanks & Tight Lines, USCG Captain Scott Manning, US Army - Veteran
Hello Chris, glad to see you videos and your willingness to share your knowledge.
I am just now getting in to trophy fishing with Rod and the real real big catfish.
I have caught more than my share of trophy cats on trout lines and limb lines in the river. But never had the opportunity to pursue them with Rod and Reel until now.
Keep up the videos man!
Well thank you and glad to hear your chasing them with rod and reel. Thanks for watching and the kind words
Hi Chris hope you had a good Christmas I was just wondering how that Mississippi River King Kat tournament came out a couple months ago where did you finish
I believe your talking about the Caruthersville MO tournament if so we finished 7th. If your talking about the Mississippi River Monsters tournament we finished 3rd in that one.
How do you get away with using 8 poles. I always thought the Limit in Ohio is 2 per angler....am I missing something?
Yea in WV waters you can use more.
Merry Christmas Cris!! Watching you fish is like fine art!! Nothin like old stompin grounds! What do you mean " mile and half of current"? If I didn't know better I'd say you were on the Arkansas river. Looks just like home! Awesome video!!
Merry Christmas Jimi Davis and thank you. Yea the current was picking up throughout the day. Thanks for watching.
Great video Chris!! Also you can't be worse than me about not getting your net ready. I do it dang near every time and end up having to extend the handle one handed. If I can even reach the thing, Lol
LOL Haha I know the feeling!! Thanks for watching.
Hey Chris another great video, also you ever need a net man I’m game lol. Anyway I love watching your videos, last year I bought my first big boat to start fishing the Ohio I have only been to a spot south of gallopolis, in eureka. I want to try other spots on the Ohio but don’t really know where to put in at other than the ramps in Portsmouth, but those ramps are very sketchy by the flood wall and really don’t want to attempt putting in there. If you could share any info on places to put it I’d greatly appreciate the help, also last year I messaged you my first time out on the river on here we was having trouble finding where to get on them at but I watched-one of your earlier videos on structure and was able to catch 2 30 lb blues, and a nice 20 lb flat head, along with at least ten 10-15 lb flat heads.
Thanks Wolfpack fishing & hunting and those are some good fish you were able to catch!!! As far as ramps go, you are right the ramp right in Portsmouth is shady. If your wanting to fish that area there is a good ramp just below the Greenup Dam on the Ohio side of the river and also there is a good ramp further down river if you look up Shawnee Marina Portsmouth Ohio that's where it is. It can be muddy in the winter but normally usable.
How many times have you hooked that canopy while casting? Great video as always
Haha A LOT lol sometimes I think I'll just take it off then it starts raining and I remember why its on there. Thanks for watching.
Can you disconnect it at the bottom of the rear leg and swing it over to the front of the boat to get it out of your way?
Can I get a way to contact you personally?
Yeah just send me a message on messenger
Looking for new rods and reels. What setup are you running? I’ve had several different ones in the past that were in my boat that caught fire. Having to buy all new gear and want to buy the best. I also have to buy a new boat and am looking at the Sea Ark. Love the setup. Great videos and very informative. Tight lines
Hey Roger I'm using warrior cat rods. I'll be doing a live feed tomorrow and well be starting with this subject if you would like to be able to see them live and ask questions you should join us it will start at 7 EST.
Good fishin brother. Been there many times. Thinkin I knew where they should be and wanting to find big ones somewhere besides the "easy" creek mouths...lol They keep us humble and thats why we keep chasin em!😉
That they do buddy that they do!! I’ve spent to many hours pulling my hair out chasing them crazy things lol
My name is tim hudson and I enjoy your videos , as well as Deiter’s . Hello Deiter
What I'm trying to do today in Ohio find me a few eaters for dinner
I’m ready to get on Ohio river near Cincinnati but it’s to high 😳 Allmost 50 ft 😱
Yep crazy high!!!
Very good information
Thanks Buddy, hope to see you all at the catfish conference again this year.

Hey Chris I’m being a little nosy what kind of rod and reel do you use Keep the videos coming good luck God bless thank you
Thanks for watching Calvin I use warrior cat rods and Penn Squal reels size 20
As Always Another Fine Video , But Chris I Seen 3Rods Get hit With Your Back Turned To Them
Haha yea they like to hit when I'm not looking. Thanks for watching.
Great video Chris. Looks like you had a pretty good day. Hope to get to fish some once I get healed up. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thanks buddy hope you get healed up soon. And Merry Christmas to you and your family as well.

Thanks Matt and Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.
Merry Xmas Chris and viewers!
Thanks RiverRat 2112 and Merry Christmas to you as well.
I like to go fishing with you guys love you Guys channel 👍
Looks like coal tipple equipment. Moves coat for a stock pile on the bank onto the barges.
Interesting I've never seen one I guess. Thanks for watching and commenting
Nice video, it’s crazy what you can find with the side scan
Yes it is, and a lot of time I just like to ride around looking because you just never know what's next.
Great video...Do another sonar video soon... Also how far above the structure were you anchored?
Thanks Major Brown and normally I'm about 75 feet above whatever I want to fish.
Chris,
Do you recommend a specific buoy for river anchor retrieval using the ezpull
kccatfishing check out this video it should help you out. If there is anything that doesn't get answered just let me know and I'll get yea taken care of. ruclips.net/video/w5CWs8oHp8g/видео.html
Nice catch, have you ever found a time when you can't/shouldn't catch fish?
I would love to say no lol but the last couple times out have been very tough. Hard rising rivers or hard fallowing waters can be very difficult to catch fish in.
Hey Chris I'm from Marietta Ohio moved to South Carolina about 4 years ago and was wondering if you can give a couple of pointers on how to figure out new waters and how to approach it?? Love the videos your doing a awesome job ....have you thought about doing any night time fishing this coming summer for flatheads??
Thanks Steven and one of the biggest pointers I can say to do is to just fish, fish as much as you can, taking as many notes as you can and consistently trying new and different things. The more notes in detail you take the better. As for night time flatheads next year I do plane on it just got to figure out some good lighting to be able to film in.
@@slungercatoutdoors thank you!! And your welcome as well!! I'm in the process of starting my own catfish guide service plus a catfish bait& tackle shop here in Lancaster South Carolina and I watched a couple of your videos today and gave me some really good ideas on what to look for and different rigs!! The video that helped me out a lot was the one about navionics!! Again I really appreciate all the information and tips you have provided along with Steve Douglas and Chris Flores can't thank you enough!!
Your very welcome and good luck on the new adventures I wish you the best of luck.
Another great video, Chris!!!-Rusty
Thanks Rusty
What model is that boat?
That is a pro cat 20” from SeaArk Boats.
Did everyone see the take down at 16:19? Pretty awesome Chris, Thanks for posting.
Thanks Shane Holz and thanks for watching
Another great video brother. You are the man. You need to teach me how to catch fish like the my partner Harley Neal needs some good advice lol 😂.
Thanks buddy!!! You going to make the Catfish Conference this year
Chris Souders yeah I think me and Harley are going to try to make it this year buddy
That look like a good time to me pretty good fish there Merry Christmas buddy hope you have a good one
Thanks Dwaine Becherer it sure was and Merry Christmas to you as well.
You certainly just helped me. Your trip starts with you carefully cruising around looking for a spot that made good sense to fish, even if it took you a while to find it. I'm guilty of not always doing that. Thank you
Do you like your rods like you have them positioned around the back and sides of the boat better than the rod rack
Yes absolutely it opens up the back of the boat so much and frees up so much room.
@@slungercatoutdoors I think it looks better to...in your opinion what's the best extreame rain suit you know of
The Mighty O is blown out again today. :( Looks like she topped out at near 50' in Hton early this morn.
Almost seems to be the normal anymore for it lol! Hopefully it will cut us some slack soon tho.
Here is a question for you.
You get out more and have better electronics than I,, Has all this high water and flow substantially changed changed the river bottom?
As in, filled holes, created holes, more timber, or less,...?
RiverRat 2112 it definitely effects everything from old cover getting washed away and new cover appearing in different areas. Along with new holes forming and some getting filled in. That's why its always important to always keep looking for new cover and areas to fish.
Nice Video 👍👍
Thank You and thanks for watching
Hey christ that looked like a dredge.
great video chris i been control drifting catching a few but no bigguns. i like your videos its a lesson every time. not much luck on big baits lately or chunk just fillets but i keep on. thanks for the tip
