Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Repentance is not feeling bad about sin. Repentance is not changing how you think about sin. Repentance is changing what you think about Jesus. The sin that the holy Spirit convicts the world of as described in John 16 is that they don't believe on Jesus. Trusting Jesus finish work for complete once for all right standing with God is the requirement for salvation. You are right that we don't have to keep repenting.

Repentance is turning away from our desire to sin. I'm not saying sorry for your sin. Before we are saved, we know nothing about the difference between flesh and spirit. We just follow our own sinful desires without a care in the world. Then, when you put your faith in Jesus, you are reborn and given a new heart and a new set of desires, then sealed with the Holy Spirit. Yes, we still sin because we are in a world where sin is becoming more and more acceptable and encouraged. But those who are saved, we are convicted. We are no longer living for us. We feel shame for our sins. We aren't of this world and this life, but our Eternal life in heaven. There was a time when success, sex and money were just normal desires that I felt were acceptable to focus on. Now it's the Gospel, Jesus, getting to know God and enjoying reading the bible! So technically, you repent once because you are reborn once, sealed by the Holy Spirit once, and are saved once. Praying and saying sorry for your actions is different because prayer is between you and God, who knows what you've done, will do, and what needs to be done. Hope this helps 😊

Repentance once I believe points to the surrendered position at the points of salvation. Constant Repentance comes with the confession of sins daily through a greiveing heart for a restored fellowship so as to not be satisfied with continued sin even though we will continue but gradually sin less because of our yearning need for fellowship under the initial Repentance that God initiated in us by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Roman's 6:1-4.

There’s a difference between repentance (changing one’s mind) and confessing our sins. I’m just now learning this, too, as I was raised in CoC. They refer to confessing our sins as repentance, which is incorrect. In other words, we can confess our sins as much as needed, but we only change our minds-repent-once.

Repent means change of mind, God repented more than anyone in the Bible and we know he doesn't sin. Repenting from your sins is works, we die daily, work every day, and we are not saved by works. Jonah 3:10 “And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.” If we had to repent of our sins to be saved then that is works based salvation and nobody would be saved because if we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. the only ones we are deceiving is ourself, we are not fooling anyone else.

Thank you for covering this. Growing up in CoC really skewed my understanding of repentance. It was something regularly expected of everyone to do, especially if you had committed a public sin. In fact, you weren’t allowed to take the Lord’s Supper until you had repented in front of the church. I remember the shame on my mom’s face when they would pass her after she had conceived my sister out of wedlock. I also remember thinking it was ok to sin as long as you repented immediately afterwards. Embarrassingly held that thought until 2 years ago. Bad theology truly hurts people.

Brothers and Sisters, there is hope. You dont have to feel hopeless struggling with sin. God has made a way by not only sending His Son to die for our sins, but to take them away. That is why in the old testament Aaron the priest make atonement and after that was finished, then place all the sin on the scapegoat to take the sin away. That was a foreshadow of what Jesus was going to do. Please read Leviticus 16
We will never stop sinning as long as we have breath? That bible says otherwise. Pastor, you admitted the greek only use repentance one way ( metanoia- a complete change of heart and life). Sinning less does not speak to a complete change, but an adjustment. Sinning less still means you are a sinner. This is not a numbers game. We still sin because of doctrines like this that the flesh love to hear.
I keep seeimg comments where we are calling ourselves sinners and the chief of sinners and calling it humility.
Our Father does not call us sinners. He calls us the righteous through Christ, Delivered, Sons and Daughters, Redeemed and thr list goes on. There is no scripture, where God calls us a sinner after He transforms us. I pray you come to the revelation of this and turn from this doctrine.
This is not the Good News that you were a sinner, then God saves you, cleanse you of all sin and unrighteousness, for us to still be called sinners.
How do you get delivered from sin? Luke 9:23.
You will still be tempted, but Hebrews 2:17-18 tells us Christ will help us overcome all of them because He did it. Please please please read and believe. Who the Son sets free is free indeed and this is the Good News, not a metaphor

  • @denisemaxwell51

1Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jn 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Christ does the saving, and he has accomplished his part. Anytime you think you got to be saved a second time, then you’re saying that Christ did not do his work, and that’s like re-crucifying him all over again, that is not necessary.
It’s very difficult to live in a flesh body, and not in one way or the other.
Example. It may be against health laws, it may be too much sugar etc.
It could be many things that you over balance or un-balance.
    But there’s always repentance.

"I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance."
Why would a righteous person not need to repent? Simple, because they've already done it. It's the same with belief, faith and trust in Christ. How often should we believe to be saved? Only once.

Why would we need mediating if we are sinless ? Let he who is without sin cast the first stone . Paul says for I keep doing the things I don't want to do as well when he does good evil follows. As well we don't wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities of the air. So ongoing. We do have to keep repenting every day. We are nasty horrible people none is righteous. Until He dressed His bride. Not we dress ourselves. Hebrews is beautiful. Because Christians do sin they do every day. That's why we have him to be our mediator . We ought not to (live) in sin because Paul says how can he who died in Christ still live in sin so everyday doing the same thing. But you will slip up and sin. Rather it's pride thoughts arrogance. Evil deeds or thoughts. Even if we think it it's still a sin. So we got to repent for even thinking wrongly. Every Christian should read the word and it still convicts them. Means constant chastising by the Lord. A diamond has to be pressed brother.

Sanctification is a process Col 3:5-8.
John said to the Jews, that the axe is laid to the root of the trees, and they should bring forth fruits worthy of repentance. A change of mind of necessity should produce a change of actions.
If we confess our sins, God faithful is just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
He gives grace to the humble, but the proud he has sent away empty. If we sin we should repent, Godly sorrow worketh repentance. A broken and contrite spirit he will not despise. Where there is no Godly sorrow, there is no true repentance. Man looks upon the outward appearance, but God looks upon the heart.
We are not saved by the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a pure heart towards God.
Yet it is written, Repent and be baptized for the remission of sins. Note that repentance is needed for the remission of sins. It is needed when we are first saved, it is needed after we are first saved.

One time repentance🤔 We don't repent ENOUGH!! Godly sorrow for our sins is needed, we need to be convicted of our wrongdoing.......a person that only repent once......I would be careful with that!! We need to examine our hearts daily!! I thank God that I can repent daily and through out the day because I may have sinned several times within that day and repenting keeps me in right relationship with our Heavenly Father and helps me to walk in humility. I would be careful with putting a number on how many times a person should repent.....did Jesus say repent only once? I know there is one faith and one baptism but repentance is continuous according to the bible.

There is literally no passage in the New Testament that calls for us to keep repenting. Once you repent then a hatred of sin forms and you begin to turn your actions away from sinning

He's saying confession of your "sins" should be done often as Jesus said in the Lord's prayer, but "repentance" or turning away from your sinful lifestyle is done once prior to conversion

@@smartchristians Repentance is not a one time thing. I used to believe this as well. We sin all of the time, all day, everyday. There are tons of sins that we commit that we are unaware of. We must stay in a posture of humility and repentance. People lie about any and everything, stupid things, that is sin. People are often prideful, that is sin. people get jealous, get angry, struggle with unforgiveness, etc. God even warns us in His word for supporting those that sin as well. God bless.

Unless you fully speak Hebrew, there is no need to see why Hebrew says. That’s just adding confusion. Repent means to turn from, and yes you will do it multiple times because we never stop sinning! Very easy to understand. Good try though.

So we should ignore the Hebrew and Greek and only focus on the English? I'm going to have to disagree. I simply wanted to flesh out the questions that have been asked and to shed more light on them

@@smartchristians I actually do see what your trying to do, it feels like that should be for a more advanced class. Easy to lose or even confuse “new” people adding another language to the mix. I feel the king James translation gets the message across. But a lot of people disagree with me on that also.

@katiechastine5571 the King James isn't modern English. And to some, even another language. 😂

@@ericafair9983 I know a lot of people think that, but our language has become very water down and dumber than it use to be, so people think that’s it’s hard to understand. But that’s just a choice of being lazy. All the modern bible of the month that they put out now are trash. If you compare them to the king James, they completely change scripture. That’s a big deal.

@@The80Kat so you're calling people lazy who doesn't want to use rocket science to figure out the KJV? Noted. Then you shouldn't have a problem with Hebrew and Greek for the more lazy... okay, now I'm confused. Or maybe I'm just lazy

Corey and when you do those particular sin or sins. you must REPENT for them. You can commit a sin at 18 yrs old, and repent and do the same thing at 21 yrs old and NOT REPENT.
It’s very difficult to live in a flesh body, and not in one way or the other sin
Example. It may be against health laws, it may be too much sugar etc.
    But there’s always repentance.
As long as we are in. a flesh body you will sin. But Christ Jesus PAID THE PRICE. and so upon Repentance it is forgiven.
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
