President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. leads the change of command ceremony and retirement honors for Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., at the PNP Grandstand in Camp Crame, Quezon City on April 1, 2024.
General Acorda Jr. served as the 29th PNP Chief and led the organization towards a more efficient police force by emphasizing five (5) focused agenda such as prioritizing aggressive and honest law enforcement operations that respect human rights and increase conviction rates; boosting personnel morale and welfare; enhancing integrity, which is the foundation of their profession; investing in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) development; and community engagement.
The PNP Chief was supposed to step down from his post last December after turning 56 years old, the mandatory age of retirement for PNP personnel. However, President Marcos Jr. extended his term until March 31, 2024.
Police Major General Rommel Francisco Marbil has been named the 30th Chief of the PNP and will lead the 232,000-strong police force. Prior to his appointment, he served as head of the Directorate for Comptrollership, Regional Director of the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) and Director of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), amongst other positions. He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy 'Sambisig' Class of 1991.
