    Hi everyone! 🤗 Today I’m teaching you a bit of French! In the first part of the video, I go through a list of vocabulary words I wanted to teach you, I also use these words in sentences in French and translate them to English. In the second part, I count to forty in both French and English to finish off on a relaxing note.
    Not sure I’m the best french teacher out there, I find my sentences to be so clumsy! I hope you’ll find the video relaxing anyway 😁. Stay safe,

    Thank you for all you do, from the central United States. I took 2 years of spanish in high school and 2 semesters of french at my university, so I am by no means fluent, but I would provide my Illinois-centric view on some words. Phantom is a word in common use in central USA, but not as ghost, but rather as something unknown, as in a phantom pain, a pain that had no obvious source. A carpet is a floor covering that is permanent and attached, glued or stapled to the floor. A similar piece of covering, made of the same material, but not attached to the floor would be called a rug or runner. When I heard Tapis, i immediately thought of the Bayeux tapestry, which in my area would be a long rug or runner. I have not seen a yellow warbler, but in the past week I have seen a blue jay, a pair of cardinals, a red tail hawk, and several ducks and geese. Thank you BehindTheMoons, I have enjoyed this short list of vocabulary.

    Hollyhock has a latin name of Alcea rosea. So I guess that could be where there is some confusion in the translation between English and French, and where the 'rose' bit comes from?

      Thank you for your feedback Will! According to another comment : "A Rose Trémière or Hollyhock is a herbaceous perennial plant and is not related to the rose in any way." but the "rosea" part of the latin name is probably why we have "rose" in the french name.

      Yes, it means "you see" or "well" in the begining of a sentence . "Et voilà" means "that's it". "Et puis voilà on va commencé" means "So that's it, we can start".

    If no one else has said this, the likely reason it is called rose trémière is because the latin name for hollyhock is Alcea rosea. Though they are only distantly related to roses

    J'avoue voir pas mal l'inverse, c'est à dire, des anglais qui apprennent aux viewers le français ou des russes qui le font aux autres mais là je suis surpris et en bien ;)
    Continue ce concept c'est pas mal !

      Thank you for your feedback! You're right, I have a tendency to speak quickly, plus the video isn't exactly beginner-friendly. I'll make a second french lesson video which will cover the basics for people how forgot what they learnt at school or for people who don't know the first thing about french!

    what's the hat over the o in "fantome"? ^

    • @BehindTheMoons
      @BehindTheMoons  4 года назад

      It's an "accent circonflexe", or just "circumflex" in English. It's sometimes used in French to change the prononciation of a letter within a word.

    • @mattjames5249
      @mattjames5249 4 года назад

      BehindTheMoons interesting. In English the ‘e’ at the end would make the ‘o’ a long vowel sound or to basically to sound how the letter itself sounds. I’ll have to listen to your pronunciation again in the video 🙂

    Un peluche
    Un fantasma...
    Muchísimas palabras en español muy similares al francés (algunas son exactas). Comment "Dormir", par exemple... exactly the same in both languages. And lots more, I just can't think of right now. 😅
    Just to be clear, "même" en français aussi c'est le mot pour dire "self", vraiment ?
    En español, se dice "mismo(a)". As in "Necesito verlo por yo misma." I have to see it for myself. And it's the same in French, yes? "J'ai besoin de le voir pour moi-même", or something like that?
    I can't wait to officially call myself TRILINGUAL. I'm getting there! Merci beaucoup. 🤗

    Aqua ça veut dire l'eau en latin. Comme le français est une langue a consonance latine, c'est tout naturel que certains mots comportent encore ces éléments.

    You make croissants by buying a tube with a roll of uncooked pastry in it that's pre-cut into triangles. You take each triangle and roll it up and you put them all on a baking tray. Then you put them in the oven and they come out looking a little bit like croissants. And you do eat them, but you decide never to buy one of those tubes again. This may not be the best way to make croissants but I know of no other.
