Grateful. From a crowded, polluted, noisy China. Your videos is the closest I get to the beauty and sounds of nature. Also, just listening to you contentedly rambling and potting around is a joy. Thank you.

October 5, 2024 Maryland, USA: I just came across this amazing video from Slim Potatohead and I can't get enough! The way he opens the Aliner with the jug is just mesmerizing. It's incredible to see him leave his Aliner and go off on his adventures. The trail access is just perfect, and I completely agree that inspiration strikes when it's ready, not on a schedule. I love to take my time exploring, even when I'm with a group. Dream Lake looks so peaceful and the water is unbelievably clear. And those elks seem to think so too! Appreciate your view with parking. As you noted the reality of places and people allow each of us to step back and appreciate.
I’m glad you got the real Colorado experience. We are all nice and most of us love nature. The crowds get worse every year, but our mountains get no less beautiful.
So glad you did have an attitude adjustment!! 😉. Too many times we ruin experiences & adventures by what goes on inside our own heads! Glad to see your sunny, positive demeanor return by the end!! 😊
I went out to Dotsero to SUV camp and hopefully, get some Fall photos of the Aspens. But, I was about 3 or so weeks too early. But the boondocking was great. So peaceful. I'm now a Colorado Girl and glad to be part of a community that is respectful to nature and to others out enjoying nature.
Gorgeous scenery, Slim. I hear you about the Grand Canyon. I went to the south rim with the main goal being to get there for the sunrise. It wasn't super crowded but there were a few dozen people. As the sun starting appearing, the colors and shadows were so awe inspiring, I was actually moved to tears. Yet, all around me, people were chit chatting away. I wanted to yell "Be quiet and pay attention to what you are seeing"!
I took my daughter to RMNP last fall and we spent 2 nights. Our experience was similar to your own. We hiked 8-9 miles, enjoyed solitude and several mountain lakes. Our companions were chipmunks and other wildlife. Occasionally we'd pass a couple of hikers, but mostly, we felt we had these spaces to ourselves and listened to the mountain winds wind through the trees and rocks. I've also been to the Grand Canyon. I hiked from the North Rim, down down down and across, to experience some of the most intense wonder I'd ever known. Being down in the canyon and near the river was lush and beautiful. The beer I drank at Phantom Ranch before camping along the stream was the coldest and best beer I'd ever tasted. I also loved staying in Indian Gardens. To really experience the Canyon, I think you've got to go down into its depths. The memories still haunt me and I believe I'll try a rafting trip sometime, just to see other places down there where fewer people ever explore.
Nice content, I came from a french youtuber who mentionned you because of the way you do your videos and the story in them, how you make an apparently quite "boring" content (travel vloging) becoming so interesting! :)
I just came back to watch this again, I’m from Colorado and I LOVE this video better than anything else I’ve seen on the subject. It’s well filmed and beautifully written. Thanks Slim❤️ Saved 👍
That A frame is so quick and easy to set up. That second campground sounded like it was a place with bad people. I’m glad you feel like that about people and nature. I don’t care for crowds either. Glad you had a great time.
I can't thank you enough for the episode you did on boondocking by The Needles Overlook. Your directions were easy to follow and I wound up at a campsite that, if it wasn't the same one, must have been pretty close to where you were. Incredible surroundings in a beautifully remote area. My only cautionary note to others who are trailering (mine is a 20-foot, single axle) is to first walk the side trail from the road to ensure you can get in -- and out -- and make sure it's not too rutted. A lot of the trails to dispersed campsites look ok right off the road but can get pretty sketchy once you've gone back a ways. I found a huge outcrop of nearly level slickrock to camp on with enough room to turn around for departure. It was a magical 3 days that I never would have had if I hand't seen your video. You're the best!
Good info... spot on opinion. Thanks for sharing and showing when given lemons consider turning them into lemonade by working smarter. KUDOS! Rocky Mountain High!
So glad you went back earlier and got to enjoy...Hope to travel there very soon. Thank you so much for sharing this video. My husband looks just like JD and has enjoyed John Denvers music his whole life. Aspen trees in the Fall WOW !
Certainly helps waiting for the hordes of summer tourists to vacate. We get a lot of Europeans visiting during the fall months. They're a nice bunch, overall. Thanks for sharing.
Thank You Sir for all your video of the park. It cant be easy to set up the camera , but I truly enjoyed watching your hike kind soul. Peace to You an Yours Sir, truly.
Sure is some nice country there , I know where your coming from about being out there by your self tho . At least it looked like you found a nice place to camp . It's Fall here in Va. now I"m getting ready to head out my self in the Mountains . Thanks for the video , I enjoyed it !
Just wanted to thank you for sharing this video. Absolutely loved the scenery. Beautiful & peaceful. There's nothing better than walking in the woods, to hear and see nature minus unwanted noise pollution.😊
I lived in Boulder, and Nederland for several years!! I thoroughly love the place but only return in October when the kids go back to school and the adults go back to work!! It less stressful, crowded, but colder!! Thanks for your video!!
You should have gone in at Wild Basin. Twenty miles closer to Ward, no Estes Park traffic, and lots of neat trails. Allenspark is a neat little community as well. Love this area of Colorado.
Hubby and I moved to low populated areas in 1986. First town had population 39 people. My dream come true. Last stop here is Midvale, Idaho population 160. Now he is gone I have done some hiking and exploring around. Earlier years I was working then he got sick. No time to get out and enjoy. There is a lot of wide open beautiful country around. I think you are right about people living in many mountain towns. Time goes at a slower pace. Most of us are not in a hurry. I feel so blessed to have been able to live this lifestyle for so many years. Enjoy your winter where it is warm. I have friends in Canada that go to Florida in the winter. Not me I love the snow. Too many people in Florida for me.
My wife and I were there in September as well. We've visited RMNP many times and have always been able to get away from the people when needed. BTW - We're enjoying our Senior Pass for the National Parks now. Save tons of money. Actually, we're just getting back the thousands of $$ we've spent over the last 40+ years with the family to dozens of parks! Great job on your videos - we enjoy them a lot. Thanks!
The Grand Canyon is beautiful in its own way but it is such a constant draw for tourists around the world, so totally understand your feelings about it. Those views of Colorado look so refreshing. Amazing how close you got to those elk!
Gorgeous video. Yes, I sometimes am frustrated when people in National Parks are really noisy, but I’ve come to be glad they are having fun. Mt. Rainier in Washington State is also gorgeous, and, if you get there by 7am you can usually park near the exquisite trails. Thanks for your videos I really enjoy them so much!!
Whenever I see the Autumn colours it always gets me. Coming from SE Qld trees don't change colour except for flowers and they can get spectacular. Nature is still beautiful. Thanks for your exceptional eye for capturing the beauty you witness.
Any park with a full parking lot is not a place I want to be. Glad you went back the next day, looks like a pretty amazing place without all the people.
When my wife and I got into camping in early 1980’s every state park and national forest we went to during the holidays we were the only ones there! Now we have to plan out a camping trip 6 months to a year in advance 😞 we’ve embraced boondocking but even that is getting difficult. The camping and RV craze is at epidemic proportions. In 2017 the RV industry manufactured over 1/2 million RV’s I can see the day when 10 story parking garages and bumper to bumper two story bus’s will be the norm, maybe even a lottery system to win access to camping at $300 a night at a national park 😜 but it was a beautiful video, thank you for sharing

Thank you so much for the awesome beauty you show. You and campervan Kevin are my favorite. Thank you and thank you again for the maps you show how to get these places for us that dont have a clue and plan on going to some of the places in the future.. A lot of the boomdockers will give just a town or park location thinking that most if us know what state that town might be in and we dont have a clue. I watch other boomdockers and "some" act like the places are for them only and act like they really don't want to tell you how to get there. They will give hints but that is all. I dont know what kind of camera you use but it is the best at picking up the awesome colors and beauty of anyone. You explain everything so beautifully. Could you tell us the date so we will know the season and best time of year to go there. There are times you go places that are just too wintery for me and dont know the month you went there, i want to avoid that one (lol).Thank you again for the beauty you bring and knowledge you bring to us..
Seems to me that the farther you get away from parking lots, the more respectful people are . People who hike a few miles in generate less rubbish, pack it out, and don't drown the rustle of the leaves with noise. Mostly.
Colorado is just an epic state, one of our favorites. Yoly and I stayed at an RV Park just outside the Rocky Mountain National Park entrance and our site was adjacent to one occupied by a mama moose and her two underlings most afternoons :-) As for other regions, we once spent two days exploring Bryce Canyon National Park and interacting with fellow travelers. We didn't hear any native English speaking people in those two days. Tour buses filled with Europeans and Asians fill most of the facilities. I don't know why they call them National Parks when they truly have become "International Parks" :-)
slide show. Is beautiful. I camp outside the at hermit county park and drive in at 5am. Drink some coffee and start hiking as the sun comes up. Get a few miles down the trail and you get your solitude you are looking for. On the way out you get to chat with the tourists. If you are ever out there again hike up to sky pond or up to black lake. Above black lake there is a basin to explore and you should have it mostly to yourself. Thanks for the videos.
Wow Slim, your thoughts on people and nature are exactly like mine, I feel like people go places to "show off" rather than see and hear the beauty with no acknowledgment or care of what may be behind the attractions. Drives me nuts too.
Rewatching, getting excited for the trip ahead. I love Colorado ever since we visited my cousin when I was 12. Try the Hanging Lake hike like I did then, near Glenwood, if you haven't. You might prefer it in winter to avoid the crowds, though. Beautiful hike.
As a Coloradoan I have to say, always hit the State and National Parks on Monday thru Thursday, after Labor Day. :) Sooo many locals go there to tramp up and down the area, not to mention tourists. I live in the area and don't dare attempt what you did. LOL Glad you enjoyed it.Cool campsite! Michael

Yup, your videos are just like that first cup of coffee in the morning. Hits the spot!
