Anybody else just grab a random piece of paper for a bookmark? Receipts, clothing tags, Kleenex, string, junk mail flyer or whatever is handy.
I often seem to loose the bookmarks I have purchased. So now I use any flat item to mark the page.
The only thing I don’t do is fold over the corners. (That’s a no-no.) 📚😊
Yes, I often do this as well. Especially if I'm starting a book and don't have a bookmark handy. Just grab the closet thing.😁
I ALWAYS smell books! The sense of smell is so closely linked to memory. Certain book smells remind me of other books and are connected to great memories.
So true!
The smell of old books reminds me of my grandmother
Love how you're so invested in your book. Keep the images in your mind coming Branden
Thank you! Will do!
The LEGO guy 🥹
My husband got me "A Fate Inked in Blood" and that book is so pretty. I'm saving it for our summer trip where we are spending 6 weeks in Oregon.
That sounds so nice! Enjoy it!
You have a delightful
Book tube to watch. I think it's because I like the same types of books. What's a book of the week your kids like? You are doing a really good job.
Oh thank you! We are currently reading the illustrated edition of Journey to the center of the earth with the boys at bedtime. ❤️
Wish I lived near your little free library! Must be awesome reads in there 😊
We try our best.😁
Neverwhere is in my top 5 books of all time. I’ve reread it several times.
It's in mine now too. Loved it! ❤️
I am really enjoying your channel and your banter. Great format, too for your discussions. Love it!
Glad you enjoy it!
Oh I just finished The only one left!! So good and atmospheric.. did not expect to cry at the ending
Ooooo yes! Atmospheric for sure!
I am LOVING you two ! I’ve been viewer of your knitting videos and when you spoke of Three Bags Full my fandom jumped a notch. You two on solely books - a favorite!!
You’ve opened my eyes to some new ones and I know views are important - I am a big fan of the Star Wars focused video !!
Keep going - I look forward to these 😍📚
Thank you so much for coming over and watching these videos. It means so much, and even more so that you’re enjoying them! ❤️❤️
I am so glad I found your channel. I love a good pirate book. If you want a pirate fantasy read I suggest The Adventures Of Amina Al-Sirafi. I listened to this on audio and I think it would be better over reading, mainly for the pronunciations of the names.
Awesome. I (Branden) just ordered that actually. 😁
You guys might enjoy the Gentlemen Bastard Sequence by Scott Lynch.
I'm really enjoying your book review channel! It is inspiring me to read more. I finished The Hacienda and loved it. I'm now reading The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling. I have put Born To Be Hanged on the list of "books to buy for my husband". Love the little Lego guy showing up in the bookend!
Glad you are enjoying the channel. I can't speak any higher of born to be hanged as a great pirate book. 🏴☠️
I enjoyed the little wartime library, and just started the wartime book club. Highly recommend.
Ooot this sounds good. I’ll need to check it out!
Just found your channel. I loved Neverwhere as well. It's also great to listen to on Audible because Neil Gaiman does the voices.
Awesome, thank you! That's what we hear. May have to make a point of listening to it.
Book Sniffer here! I love your Frog and Toad t-shirt, Tayler. I have been enjoying this podcast so much. I read a good mix of genres, so I am interested in books that you both are reading. I'm putting a book nook on my wishlist. Thanks for another really good episode! ❤
📚👃❤️ I’m so glad you’re enjoying this Olivia! And yes! Definitely dive down the book nook rabbit hole. They’re so much fun. ☺️☺️
Thank you for a another good episode! My husband is currently reading the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson, and I’m eading a Swedish recently published book (Jävla karlar, very good), as well as The little Paris bookshop by Nina George (I reckon it is good, but I have a hard time getting into it), and I’m listening to Babysitter by Joyce Carol Oates (just started).
That's awesome!❤️
I love the smell of books! Paper. Ink. It’s exciting. Tayler-try Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. It’s nonfiction but reads like fiction and it’s dark and moody about a serial killer at the Chicago Worlds Fair.
Yes! I read and loved that book and have told Tayler that she should try reading it, or another by Eric Larsson. 👍
Neil Gaiman books! I think he is great and have read a few. Now ai have another on my list!
Those bookends are fantastic and the Lego man inside, inspired! Another great video.
Aren't they cool? Thank you Helen!
Love the update. I thought everyone smelled books, mainly used books. Who wants them if they smell bad? The tees are awesome first Branden's Garfield and now Tayler's Frog and Toad. So intrigued by the books you are sharing!
So glad you’re enjoying this one Julie! Thank you for watching. (And I totally thought everyone sniffed books as well. 😂)
Branden, your shirts are always *chef's kiss*... where do you source your style?
You know what, I guess I just like a wild looking shirt. 🤷🏻♂️😉
The one book I read recently and I can't stop recommending others is fantasy fiction Voyagers of hell. It's a must read if you enjoy gothic thrillers.
Ooo interesting! Definitely going to look into that one more. ☺️
I smell books and yarn too. Lol😊
👃🏻❤️
I just listened to the only one left and it is fantastic. I’m trying to get the house across the lake, but I haven’t been able to yet from the library. It’s pretty popular.
We are fast becoming Sager fans ourselves.
My favorite was Lock Every Door😊
@@katyrye oooh that was a good one too!
You might like Deborah Harbness’s All Souls books. (Discovery of witches, etc) the fifth book comes out this summer and the 2nd book is same time period as the S J Paris books
So that’s what I’ve heard! I need to look into that. ☺️☺️
The smell test! Im doigts the same with books and coloured pencils!
Love your podcast! I’ve added more books to my TBR list…oh my….to many books and not enough time!
Yay, thank you! Sorry, but not sorry about your TBR.😂
@@GoodBooksLately ❤
Love anything pirate, so definitely looking to Born to be Hanged now! I bought The Wager last year but haven't gotten into yet. I think I need to scratch this itch once and for all 😅
You should! The Wager was great. Loaned my copy to my father-in-law and he is enjoying it as well.
@@GoodBooksLatelylove to hear it! More pirate recs would be great too 😊
Enemy of All Mankind was good as well.
@@GoodBooksLatelythank you!!
Tayler, if you want a fascinating NF book with a plot, try the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
Oooo I will! Thank you! ❤️
Loving your channel! 📚you inspired me to paint some bookmarks for my book club pen pal and it was sooo fun!
Thank you Meagen! And so glad you were inspired to paint bookmarks. It’s such a fun and bit-sized painting project. ❤️
What can I say? I am also a book sniffer...😅
😁👃🏻
Tayler, I too had not read a whole lot of nonfiction but there are a couple of books that really helped me get into them. The first one is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. The other is Radium Girls. I really enjoyed both even though they are heavy, it helps to see how far we have come but also how far we have to go.
Thank you so much for the recommendations. ❤️
You guys are awesome! Every time I watch I think of someone I think needs to get hooked on Good Books Lately with me. I keep sharing. And then start downloading samples on my Kindle. lol
This makes our night Kelly! Thank you so much for watching AND sharing. ❤️
The reason I don’t listen to books or download them online is because I love the smell of a physical book andi too always smell them haha 😂
There is a certain feeling you get when you hold and smell a physical book.👍
Very interested in Alchemy … reminds me of The All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness. Giordano Bruno was referenced in the first book A Discovery of Witches and in the second book Shadow of Night, the main characters (a witch and a vampire) time travel back to 1590-91 and interact with John Dee and visit Prague and interact with the Emperor Rudolph and residents of the Jewish quarter.
Awesome! I think Tayler has that series or at least is interested in it.
You two make me smile!! I keep adding some of these books to my tbr list!!
Thank you Michelle! Glad you’re inspired to add more books to your TBR. ❤️
Oh and I love Riley Sager books!
just read The Gunslinger and The Drawing of the Three. Just started The Wasteland. See a pattern.
Nice Frog and Toad shirt. We have a ton of literary shirts. Wife is a librarian.
Love Papier books -- if you didnt already know, you can customize/personalize a variety of planners and journals, etc on their site. They are very reasonably priced and personalized *and* shipped in less than a week! They make great gifts!
That's great. Didn't realize that. Thanks for the info and tip. Might make gift shopping easier this year! ❤️
@@GoodBooksLately I give both planners and cooking or reading journals with various gift cards and notes inserted throughout... sometimes I add doodles/sketches. Everyone loves them
Vampire's of El Norte is my current audiobook and Neverwhere is on hold. Thank you for the recommendations. Please keep them coming.
So glad that you’re enjoying the recommendations. I would love to know how the audiobook is for Vampires of El Norte. I hope it’s good! Thank you for watching Rachel.
I like the smell of new books. A tip I use for musty books is put dryer sheets between some of the pages. Thanks for the video!
Great suggestion! Some books are too musty to be appealing so this is a great solution. ☺️
Cool video. I like the sound of Alchemy. I finished listening to The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, and found it a little too magical for me. A compelling, fun read, though with great characters. I also finished Spinning Silver, which was just ok. I'm listening to The Martian after watching the film, and am thoroughly enjoying it. I'm hoping to crack open a new book tonight, but still deciding on which one. ❤
So I just picked up a used copy of Spinning Silver. I’ve heard similar things about it being just ok. I may need to think about that. And I’ve heard the Martian is so good and that Project Hail Mary is even better. Definitely a future read for one of us. ❤️
I almost always sniff the books I buy, especially used ones. They can really stink! Tried to read one book that was so redolent of the previous owner‘s perfume, I couldn’t even finish it. And the mildewy musty ones? Just no!
I could imagine. 👃🏻
I KNEW you’d like ‘Vampire of El Norte!!’ Wasn’t it awesome?
It was SO good! Absolutely loved it.
if you show the book cover by keeping the book closer to you, we as viewers can see it fine. you don't need to go thru the circus of hiding behind the book to get the camera to focus.
Yeah, but then we don't get to be silly. JK, 😁. We will keep that in mind though. Thanks.
Lol … i get a kick out of watching you two duck out of your own video 😂
Or you can cover your face with your hands
I just sniffed the book I am reading after you explained why you did it. Oh my gosh - a very strong distinctive scent!
Isn’t it something?! I love it. 🥰
@@GoodBooksLately I have a strong feeling I will be doing it with every book I read now. 😉
😂
Question for Tayler - this is a crossover question between this channel and WNH. How are you managing your time between knitting projects and reading? I'm not yet skilled enough to read and knit at the same time. Curious if you structure your time similarly each day to make progress on both or if you just wing it based on what you want to do at that moment. Thanks!
This is a great question. I tend to have chunks of time where I do one thing or the other (or both). In the morning, I read and have coffee (I’m up at 5:30), later in the afternoon, like before dinner, I’ll read and knit, and then I read a bit before bed. Right now I’m only knitting on socks so it’s been a bit more simple. Oh! And I’m also squeezing in about 20
minutes on those book nooks. On busy days, I usually only have extra time for one of these things.
Are there any books coming out in the near future that you are looking forward to?
What a great question. For me, even though I'm just starting "The Will of the Many" I'm looking forward to it's sequel. And Tayler as she mentioned in our Wine Time Reviews video is eager to read the follow up to Ordinary Monsters.
Do y'all have a P.O. box? I have a bunch of extra handmade bookmarks and would love to send you a couple
Oh wow, thank you! We do indeed!
