- Mysteries of Manasarovar Lake and Rakshastal
Near Mount Kailash, there are two amazing lakes called Lake Manasarovar and Rakshastal. Let's learn more about them. Lake Manasarovar is a very special lake for people who follow Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. People believe that if you bathe in this lake, it will wash away your sins. The lake is very high up, about 4,590 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest lakes where you can find fresh water. People think that this lake was first imagined by a god named Brahma and then it appeared on Earth. That's why it's called Manasarovar; in the ancient language of Sanskrit, 'Manasa' means 'mind' and 'sarovaram' means 'lake.' The lake is round and is a symbol of light and purity. People who drink its water believe they are cleansed of their sins. There are five Buddhist temples near the lake. Also, four big rivers start from here: Karnali, Brahmaputra, Sindhu, and Sutlej. The lake can look different colors like blue or green, depending on the time and weather. Many people walk around the lake as a religious practice.
Now, let's talk about Rakshastal. This lake has a name that means "lake of the demon" because a character from ancient history, Ravana, once bathed here. People in Tibet call it 'the dark lake of poison' and also 'the Ghost Lake.' This lake is not considered holy like Manasarovar. It has salty water and no fish or plants live in it. There are four islands in this lake.
According to history, Ravana Deep Tapas here to please the god Shiva. He even cut off one of his ten heads as an offering every day. On the tenth day, God Shiva appeared and granted him a boon. The lake is shaped like a crescent moon and is not round like most lakes. People don't walk around this lake because it's considered unfortunate.
Both lakes are close to each other and near the Holy mountain, Mount Kailash. The weather here is very harsh, with cold temperatures and strong winds. Still, Manasarovar has many types of birds, while Rakshastal does not because of its salty water.
Every year, many people visit both lakes, but more go to Manasarovar because it's considered holy. These lakes are not just interesting places on a map; they are important for culture, religion, and nature.
