Unfortunately people like these are making this sport looking extremely dangerous. For too many years that's what was putting me off from approaching it.
I'm just a begginer now and to get a training and master ground handling would me my starting point. In a bad weather, go home and stay safe. Sometimes it's more like the people are extreme, not the sport, I think.

this launch area seems to be better suited for hang-gliders, especially the wind system seems to be dangerous for the paragliders

  • @nilskrah7631

This is not funny, not even to watch. Several launches are badly executed and very few of them give the impression that the pilot is in full control of the glider before "jumping off" or being pulled off. Most of all, the wind conditions seem unsuitable in many sequences, as has been suggested by other viewers (probably lee side rotor?). Launching in these conditions has little to do with balls of steel, as stated by others, but is simple dangerous and fully avoidable. My impression is the pilots either except the high risk or neglect it. If the site were in Europe, I would criticize the pilots for shedding negative light on the paragliding sport, which has struggled to brush off the "extreme" coating and has now become a more accessible way of flying in the eyes of the public. However, I do not know the public opinion about paragliding in Japan. Risk might be viewed as a positive attribute of the sport there.

hang glider pilot here, with only a few hours of paraglider ground-handling experience. I can't exactly tell what's going on with the collapses, but if there were a flying site where that many hang gliders had that bad of launches, I'd be really careful to understand the rotor situation, and to find (or make) some thermal markers 50, 100 and 200 yards out from launch. I'd even do that if the hang gliders launched fine but the paragliders were having this difficulty. It looks like they have no idea what's out in front of them. And if it's a lee-site, I'd have some wind indicators behind me as well. But I suspect that most of what we see here is sharp thermals and rotor due to cross-wind that the ramp slot makes appear to come closer to straight in.

Asian site of Yamazaki in Japan. These pictures have probably a few years. Strong of thermals and airflow are realy impressive. Not to say that all pilotes are wrong. So with a full collapse Omega opens good again, more than the sky who comes back on the wrong side for this unlucky glider. Nice video and to hope the best for these gliders...

RayNickell because of the reaction of the glider. in german it is called "klapper" if one side of the wing "falls down". an it happens allways at the same position. Together with the near trees and the strong wind i.suggest that there could be a rotor from an lee.
