Oh shit I think this is the first review of this game! gratz on the SPEED
A peek behind the curtain here, but they sent out review copies a few weeks back with an embargo date on publishing them, so my review probably landed the exact same time as a lot of other people's
You can reload a save from any week you want if you go in and delete the saves from the weeks after that week. For instance I had the option to restart from week 4, 9, and 10. I deleted 9 and 10 and now 4 and 8 were available. Typically if something got messed up its best to go at least a couple weeks back anyway.

The plot contrivance you describe about the rescue ship being able to miraculously go where you couldn't, around the start of the game Kurt tells the captain to change the course, and he doesn't. Also the rescue ship came after winter had ended. Our ship was given a horrible course right when the ocean was beginning to freeze.
Loved the game. I somehow finished the game on my first try, but I lost Mrs Gloss very early on :(
You make a good point, actually. If this is based on Shackleton's expedition (and it definitely is), Shackleton set sail in January, at the warmest time of year, for the best chance of success. But he got unlucky and it was an unseasonably cold year so he got stuck in the ice. Safe to imagine something similar happened here, but it could have been made a bit more explicit in the dialogue. It would have been easy to add some lines from Kurt about how unusually cold it was this year.
It is possible that the island you are headed to already has had a rout mapped out from the other direction, able to be accessed by another port on the opposite side of the continent. Sailing around the continent to access this rout just might not be feasible for your mission.
Nice idea, but unfortunately the story makes it very clear you are going there for a Very Specific Reason (not simply because it's the rescue point). If the Benefactor had access to an established and easier way of getting there, they would simply have used that

everybody says decorum is hard to maintain dude its fuel!
I didn't find it as hard on the second run. It was how I failed the first one. You can continue for a few weeks (albeit badly) without food or heat but once your decorum is gone it's over.
@@ButtonMash foods easy i just get those lepored seals and decorum just say compliments. but fuel dam nothing but seals and penguins in the fire

Regarding saving - are you saying you can't stop the game and save whenever you need? That's a killer for me if so as I always have to be able to drop things to look after my wife (who has disabilities). If you can let me know I'd appreciate it.
Sorry, I should have clarified. The game auto saves at the start of each week, but the only saves it lets you load if you mess up a week are at the start of each chapter of the game. So if you're really unhappy with how something went, you might have to re-play a few weeks of the game rather than just the one. Does that make sense?
@@ButtonMash Yes, the only thing it misses is how long a week is. If it's 5-10 minutes, I can live with that, if it's an hour that would suck. In a narrative style game I'm happy to live with screw-ups I make.
@@yorkieandthechihuahua I've played the game some and had decorum hit 0 about 10 weeks in (I wasn't paying close attention to it at that point because it had been high most of the game). The weeks length in actual playtime depends on how much time you spend reading and how much you need to get done. They could take you as little as a few minutes if you know exactly what you want to do or a lot longer if you want to look at all your options. Typically replaying something will take you a lot less time than playing through it to begin with. Also, if you want to restart from a specific week the game lets you if you delete all the saves for the weeks after it. I tested it, it let me reload only week 4, 9, and 10, and after i deleted 9 and 10 it allowed me to load week 4 or 8. So if you want to start at 7, you'd delete 8 too.

The rescue ships are the same ship as yours. Ice breaker ships didn't exist yet so yeah your problem is a non issue.
