  • Hello Art Family,
Today we're taking a look at the HIMI gouache that I've seen so many people talking about online. The generous people at Miya Art sent me a set of gouache, a sketchbook and a brush set to test out and make a video about. Here's a link to the set they sent me:
    www.amazon.com/HIMI-Gouache-B...
My kids and I had a great time painting with the kit. Thanks for watching!
    Happy sketching,
    Jared
PS My friend ‪@JustinDonaldsonArt‬ just did a video on Himi Gouache and is teaching a full class on gouache. He's one of my favorites painters and I'm proud to call him a pal. Go check out his video and channel and upcoming class which his closing registration really soon.

“She was painting me painting” -- ohmygosh that’s just adorable 🥺 you are her inspiration for art. Would be nice to see her demo some day!
Love the painting demo, thank you! Recently bought HIMI gouache set and luckily it came with two white mcdonalds cups 😁

Hi Jarred. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a New Yorker expat living abroad).
As usual great video and beautiful sketch.
I'm still learning with Gouache (started a few months ago) but I love the medium.
I almost bought a small Himi set a few months ago but I ended up buying W&N Artist grade Gouache, because over here in Europe they are more affordable than other brands.
Just in case you don't know about her, I just wanted to share that there's a great US Artist living in Scotland that is doing a fantastic job of analyzing most Gouache paint in the market from all brands she can get a hold on and she's building sort of a Database with all the info. Her name and RUclips channel is Sarah Burns Studio. She is exploring Gouache in all ways (out of the tube, rewetting, using it dried out, lightfastness tests, etc...).
Just in case it might help!
    One last thing...
It's awesome that your kids learn Art since a young age... It's an advantage for them later on in their lives (I wish I would have had such an artistic environment while growing up).
Well, as always, love your work and don't ever stop making videos and Art!
    Cheers from Sunny Spain!
    😁👍😎

Jim! It's always so nice to hear from you. I love Sarah Burns' videos. :) She's great! Very informative and she makes great videos. Thanks for watching. I used WN artist for a long time because they had it really cheap at a craft store here. My regular set of gouache is m graham. Thanks for watching!

I'd just dump out the black and buy a bag of their titanium white to refill it. Also they should send you some matte acrylic to try out too.

the biggest thing with the himi gouache if you leave it in the container for a while is drying out and mold. I spray it with a weak diluted rubbing alcohol/water mix occasionally to keep it mold free and wet. If it gets really dry you're going to have to spend a lot of time remixing them.
Personally I like tubes better but these are cheap. If you hit the final piece with some UV resistant finish hopefully they're lightfast enough to put on a wall somewhere behind some glass.

Very smart and good insight. Yea- I’d definitely want to varnish it before i did anything with it. Thanks for watching

@@JaredCullum i'm not sure I'd want to spray rubbing alcohol even diluted into most paints - I imagine it will act as a solvent to some of the coloring agents. Not something I'd want to do with more expensive paints.
But I keep it real dilute (like 5% isopropyl at the end) -I'm not really sure how effective it is against all spores and whatnot at such dilution. I haven't really found an alternative though.
