I was struck by the fantasy of Janelle Monae joining Beyoncé for the Renaissance Tour. This album would blend in so easily with Renaissance, and that would give me life

11:26 - Prince was actually a mentor to Janelle, and he helped out on Dirty Computer before he passed. Janelle is definitely carrying his torch!

I love how artists aren't even focussed on song of the summer. They come to give you a whole project for the summer!

This album is so sexy. It’s definitely giving beachy, candle lit, warm summer night with a gentle breeze.

I was surprised how short it was because she usually has *huge* albums in terms of length and the number of songs. Then again, it's perfect for a half hour in the sun / pool and vibing with your headphones on. This feels more like an Endless Summer Vacation than Miley's tbh.

I think 42 is a poly love song! "Double the fun/triple the time for love" gives that vibe.
Guessing the title is a reference to The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy given Janelle's sci-fi fandom (where it is the meaning of life and also 6 by 9)
Really loved the album but would love to return to Cindi Mayweather's story at some point, she can't leave the fandroids hanging forever!

I can't stop listening to this album, it's so good!!! Honestly would not be surprised if she released Champagne Shit as a single, either. But it's really hard to pick a favorite song when the album flows together so well!

After sitting with the record for a min , I'm mad as hell Janelle reduced "Haute" & "A Dry Red" to interludes...why 😭

Matt Steele had me rolling this entire video. "She's Michael Phelps!" and "Treading..." sent me! Matt Palmer's summarization of this being the most "Crazy, Sexy, Cool" album since TLC's iconic release is kind of on the money: "The Age of Pleasure" feels like Rihanna's "Anti" and Beyoncè's "Renaissance" had a ménage à trois with the suite of Prince-lite songs on Janelle Monáe's "Dirty Computer" at a pool party and... I like it!

TBH this album is so underwhelming. Anyways here's my ranking of Janelle Monáe albums:
    1. The ArchAndroid (a masterpiece, the last 3 tracks sent me to heaven)
    2. The Electric Lady (not as good as The ArchAndroid, but it's still a 9.5/10 in my opinion. Victory, Ghetto Woman, and Dorothy Dandridge Eyes are the best song in here)
    3. Dirty Computer (8/10 album, so sexy)
    4. Metropolis EP (VSHH, Many Moons, and Sincerely Jane are some of her best songs. I ranked it lower than DC because there are only 7 songs)
    5. The Age of Pleasure (5.5/10, I can't believe I waited 5 years for a 30-minute half-baked album lmao. The last 4 tracks are so good tho
p.s All of her albums require you to them front to back, the transitions are life-changing (especially the three-track run of Dance or Die/Faster/Locked Inside in The ArchAndroid)

lmao dirty computer is a strong 9.5/10. this album was conceived during covid & it features a lot of reggae, dancehall & afrobeat sounds (sth a lot of older fans might find surprising but not shocking if you’re really a fan fan). this is one of her best works hands down & if you don’t see it, sorry to ur ears.

I think my least favorite is "Dirty Computer". It just sounds different from all her previous albums in a way that doesn't hit the same marks for me. It seemed to beg for radio play through lyrics, melodies and overall production, which is understandable as she was at the cusp of becoming mainstream and needed a little push (too bad it didn't really work out).
      I loved Django Jane though.
"The Age of Pleasure", though I don't like half of the songs, brings up her signature melodies and transitions aligned with her comfortable moving between music genres and mixing references. I might not like all songs but I'm happy it's much more consistent and seems to continue from where she had stopped at Electric Lady.
It is fascinating to see her maturing through music and how she chooses to present herself and her work.
In any case, her Archandroid Suits will always be there and remain to this day the most incredible music experience of this century for me. 🤗
