an album about healing her inner child and trauma from her teen years being inspired by early 2000s sound because that’s when she was growing up. ugh it’s perfect
Just as expected, there are no skips. But I will say Holy is one of Rina’s best songs of all time. And Send My Love to John sounds like a Chosen Family sequel but even more devastating.
I aggree to the full extent. I mean Holy is lyrically, production-wise and vocally one the best of Rina. I don't have a ranking for any of Rina's work since every one of them fits different places of my life, so each one of them is number 1 for me.
ik we were all hoping for a sawayama pt 2 but im so GLAD this is what she did. sawayama and hold the girl are two complete different albums with complete different visions and themes and i just love it. so amazing. her evolution as artist ALREADY is immaculate. so rare to see and im glad were witnessing an ICON being made.
Weirdly enough this feels like a sawayama 2 obviously it sounds different but it feels so personal and you can see clear growth and healing from her as well as somehow just better music (imo obviously)
I kinda still wanted a sawayama pt 2. Quite disappointed with this album. I hope she goes back to her unique productions, and more witty lyrics like in Rina ep and sawayama album. Her lyrics on this album was too direct and leaved somewhat little to be deeply interpreted.
YESSS!! Thank u for this, This is only her 2nd album and she needs to continue experimenting before fans start asking for nostalgic sounds. Just like Gaga with Chromatica and how it was considered a comeback to her sound, I want Rina to go full in with whatever sounds she wants before we as fans start asking for older sounding stuff
@Jinkx ʼs Line I totally agree with the Dorian part. A Dorian/Rina song is LONG overdue, even though they are both only recently on the come-up. Their styles and production would blend perfectly!!
I'm so mad at Gaga for rarely to never doing collabs or remixes !! She's a pop icon now she can do whatever so why tf not hop on the remix for Frankenstein!! Especially knowing that she herself has a song literally called " Frankensteined " 😫
@@LazyDuckGamerOnPluto gurl plss, Gaga had 0 involvement in the remix album. Charli confirmed it as well. Plus, I want an original track and tbh Free Woman is one of my least favorites on Chromatica. The demo was amazing then Bloodpop had to come and ruin it
To Be Alive feels like her making peace for herself, letting herself feel. a quiet, contemplative, yet euphoric song. drum and bass usually makes for an anxiety inducing trance but somehow, this track is being able to convey the conclusion of this album. love it so much.
'To Be Alive' is breathtaking and it encompasses EVERYTHING about the album, perfectly. It somehow takes elements from every track from the album and rolls it all into one big encore ensemble. It's sublime. Just gorgeous!
yes !! thank you so much for this reaction, I’ve needed this. I’ve seen too many people ripping apart this masterpiece with irrelevant comparisons to sawayama. Those people basically wanted a sawayama pt.2 and well all know rina does not go back to the same but is completely growing and experimenting. Thus was the album I needed this year. Thank you for feeling and accepting the vibes, I had so much fun watching this, and just subscribed too, I love your comments, love and energy ❣ hold the slay continues ~~~
It’s funny that Matt S. kept saying he got Halloween vibes from “FRANKENSTEIN”, and even “HOLY”, because I thought it was just me. (I discovered Fefe Dobson’s “GHOST” at a Spirit Halloween one year and any one of those Rina songs would fit right in there, not even joking 💯)
I agree, not the hugest fan of "Chosen Family", so I'm so down for moving some of that energy to "Send my love to John" I honestly think "This Hell" is the queer anthem for me in this. Just such a wonderful song filled with queer joy. I suppose those 2 on this album kind of beautifully contrast eachother
Fun fact guys. I believe somewhere in an interview or magazine article. The country elements she was inspired by Kacey Musgraves. This is one of my many favorite albums of 2022.
"Your Age" sounds, to me, like it could be that someone much older than Rina messed with her when she's young. You know, when these 30-year-old dudes mess with teen girls? Even if they're 18, they're still vulnerable to being manipulated and abused due to a lack of perspective from life experience. That's what this song suggests to me, that now that she's his age (30s) she just can't imagine messing with someone as young as she was when he messed with her, and she's telling him off for what he did to her.
Rina is absolutely amazing in concert. I’ve seen her twice now and she blows me away every single time. She deserves so much more recognition. Another none skip album.
completley agree about chosen family. the emotion this pulls from you is what she was aiming for with that song. so glad and proud she got there. this album is amazing. love you guys. i keep watching this bc i love listening w u guys!!!

I just happened upon your channel, and haven't read through the comments yet. I discovered Rina through a BBC interview on the radio: she spoke at some length about "Your Age". "Your Age" is about an illicit affair with a school teacher when she was 17 and the teacher was in his/her mid-30s.
Your reaction was such a joy to watch. It was like my feelings about this album made a RUclips channel. Edit: Not to diminish the other videos you have. You are always fab.
Would you guys react to Dirt Femme🥺? Please please please don’t miss out on that masterpiece which Tove Lo worked really hard on and just released under her own label. It is a album full of gay anthems as well😭
Heyyy I just wanted to come here and ask if you would react to Joshua Bassetts Ep called “sad songs in a hotel room” it comes out September 23rd so in exactly a week. It’s only 6 songs long. He wanted to release it before his album. I wanted to give a little back story to it bc it’s important. So he just played his first ever 3 live shows and he played every song from the ep except the title track so that it the first song on the ep and the only one we haven’t heard. 2. So to start the song LA he played it early last year for a virtual concert and put that on RUclips but never officially released it. To keep it vague this song was just written in a time when he was going through a lot yk in every aspect of his life kind of at the beginning of all that drama and just when so much happened. It’s just more about mental health. 2. The song smoke slow was a single released last month (that’s all I’ll say😭) 3. Used to it, this song we hadn’t heard anything about it but he played it at his live shows but let’s not focus too much on that aspect of the song and more so what he was going through in the song. ( I don’t wanna speculate but it does seem to be about Olivia Rodrigo. I don’t know for certain and I hate saying that bc speculation is what got him into this mess but at the same time I want ppl to understand) 3. Lifeline, this song he teased in may and played at the live shows. It’s a song to his mom when he was dying in the hospital last January yk all that awful timing and the drama happening while he was dying. But yeah he wrote it for his mom about his hospitalization and honestly it’s HEAVY. I also prefer the live version. It’s so good live. 4. All in due time he also teased on tik tok in may (he also teased smoke slow) but basically this song is about his mental health during last year when things were super rough for him. Now I’m just going to quote a few things he said about the ep☺️ "It's really one of my favorite projects, actually, it is my favorite project I've ever put out to date, and I stand behind every song. Each one means something completely different." Joshua describes his upcoming EP "Sad Songs In A Hotel Room" as a "stepping stone" to his first album. “Sad Songs In A Hotel Room comes from a transient period of my life, when I was constantly moving from hotel to Airbnb to a friend’s place, while also juggling some intense personal growth and change” “Each of the songs in this EP tell a different part of the story from that time; each with a different perspective. In some ways, these songs feel like a bridge from one chapter of my life to the next, and I felt an urgency to put them out as I finish my debut album.” Among all his past projects, from a Disney+ series to a multitude of singles, Joshua Bassett says his upcoming release is his favorite one yet. star did not detail the specific inspiration behind each track, although he noted that the songs are "authentic, honest" and something fans haven't seen from him before.
