Waterproofing a foundation involves first locating the source of the leak, and then coming up with the appropriate solution for the issue. In this project we knew that there was water coming into the garage from within the concrete foundation, but the cause was unknown. After excavating the area outside the home, we cleaned off the dirt and discovered cracks along the exterior which were allowing water to seep into the floor. In this circumstance, the answer was to apply a layer of hydraulic cement to the cracks. Hydraulic cement - and particularly the product we used in this job - contains a crystalline substance which chemically changes the surface it is applied to, causing an extremely strong adherence of all the materials. This fuses the original foundation concrete with the waterproofing cement, preventing further leaking or seepage.
