Can only imagine this banger in an 80s nightclub, thumping through a quality soundsystem and shaking the dancefloor. What a floorfiller it must have been.
the atmosphere back then was so different, i grew up in the rock and roll industry, was hitting up black music clubs at 14 with my friends, grew with hiphop as it took root, evolved into rave culture, jungle drum and bass and beyond but being a kid in a pre internet, pre mobile phone world was something almost impossible to describe to anybody born after the 1980s i guess, subcultural movements took dedication back then, it wasnt a click of the mouse, next next next type involvement, you kind of had to physical commit quite a large chunk of yourself to be part of communities that revolved around sounds like this because it wasnt available via mainstream delivery systems

I'm 15, and a music producer. I'm very impressed with the composition of this. My parents are from the 60s and constsntly listen to music from the 70s and 80s. This one has caught my eye for a while, a swing rhythm with upbeat but slow vocals, with strings mixed in. This is a very good and ahead of it's time song. George Benson has some of the most futuristic music for his era.
I had basically just arrived. When I was old enough to understand I knew this was what they called a hit. Lol This and Lionel Richie's "All Night Long" were being played everyday all day. ruclips.net/video/Q7oTQ8QjdAc/видео.html
I was in college in 1980 when I got the album with this song. Never to this day, do I get tired of hearing this song. My favorite G.B. song for sure. And easy to dance to! Lyrics are "spot on". A " feel good" song if ever there was one! Rock on George!!!!
George is a stellar talent, but don't forget he went to the boss to help him cross over from jazz to mainstream R&B/Pop/Soul... Quincy! Quincy! I think it was an 80'!! me n my sis would sing along with mom!! ha ha!! funny how you remember all that just from hearing a song!!

Reminds me of dancing with my mom. She would do the hustle with me while getting ready for the club. Mixed emotions cuz life kinda sucked for us in Spanish Harlem. 70s and 80s were hard in NYC with no dad in the house. Mom was young and from the islands (Puerto Rico). She had no clue how to live in a city. I guess she did the best she could given her situation.

How utterly stunning is this track? It could go on 8 or 9 minutes and still wouldn’t be long enough. God bless you, George. This is a killer, nearly 40 years after its release. 😍
Yes, but it's a dyed in the wool '70's song! It's always the trouble with the decade hand-over years! The new decade is just an infant without a fixed personality yet. BUT, half of the prior decade was definitely building up to it! So it's 50/50, but I would agree this song is way more 70's than what would become '80's music.
Give Me Thaaa Night! I remember this song so well...my Daddy took me and my sister to see The Stars Wars movie (featuring Billy D Williams) on the big screen...we listened to this on the way to theater. Way to go Daddy!!! That was an AWESOME night!
In 1983, an uncle bought a beautiful, brand new 2-door Grand Marquis and equipped it with a good Pioneer audio system. One night he took a cousin and I to dinner in that car and they were playing this song on the radio. My uncle came on. The volume and rhythm of this song, the car was driving down a boulevard, the atmosphere of the environment with the city lights and the powerful and smooth ride of the car, combined with that song, created a very special moment that I still remember very pleasantly. . beautiful times without a doubt.
George Benson was like a mentor to me through his music. I turned to him many times, when I needed encouragement. It started with Breezin' .... then the others. He is all class. Something about him and his music was uplifting. Damn, the music, so many kinds of music, great different music was coming out of the 70's and 80's!
this is my dad right here, old man had some moves back in the day & every now and again we see the old boy breaks it down at family events when they play this jam!
Summer/Fall 1980. Her name was Yvette. Pretty little brown girl from the bronx. This little brown boy from Fresno was too shy to talk to her. This song reminds me of her from all those years ago. I hope that God blessed her with a fruitful life in the Love of our Lord and our Sovereign God.
omg this song makes me feel like i am a little kid again living my life to the fullest! growing up in the 80s (born 75) was seriously the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I played this song for my dad. My dad is 66 years old. When he heard this song he became a 26 year old. LOL. Great song. Miss the 80s. And on with the countdown.
This is such a 'multi-layered' song. Recorded in reverb, you have the handclaps, the trumpets, the girls singing in the background. With George Benson, you really can't go wrong ;)
Look up the clips Benson did for Ibanez guitars to celebrate his fortieth anniversary playing the model that bears his name. If you just hear him talk, he's just the coolest, down-to-earth jazz cat you could ever hear talk, you just want to sit down and have a drink with the guy.
I was privileged enough to have an amazing childhood. My parents had get togethers all the time and the music set the mood. Although their divorced they still remain good friends. 8 tracks and cassettes were awesome.
vinyl in itself is still the most powerful medium. a vinyl on a technics 1210 mkII will tear any other sound apart.... but marketing would try to tell you CDs are "better quality". they're convenient, yes. but i would pick a record over anything else. its also just a brilliant invention.
also, the crackle and popping on the beginning and ending of an amazing song on record is just an epic thing in itself that cant be described. its still a thing that is 'simulated' a lot in digital music ... because oldschool people love that old crispy sound. you can hear this example on lauryn hill's miseducation.
KILLER SONG!! reminds me of my high school librarian, this middle-aged African guy who LUVED OLD SKOOL R&B like i do, & he played this song all tha time.
Those people are just stupid kids that keep going "oK BoOmEr" at literally anyone that doesn't instantly agree with their fragile brains and supersized superiority complex. Not much needs to be said, they're idiots that are always convinced they're better just because they're the next generation, despite not knowing how to use a can opener.
This great, Maurissa! Listen more old songs with her, so she can grow having good taste for music since early age. :) I had listening this music since I was 3 thanks my parents and I can tell you that since then, I never stopped listening old songs, I really enjoy it!
Great song!! 🎸🥁🎼i d like to say this is my favorite song but mr George Benson has so many hits! It is the first song 🎤that I heard from him and I’ve been a fan ever since🎼🙌🤙🤟😎👏
LYRICS: Whenever dark has fallen You know the spirit of the party starts to come alive Until the day is dawning You can throw out all your blues and hit the city lights 'Cause there's music in the air And lots of loving everywhere So give me the night Give me the night You need the evening action A place to dine, a glass of wine a little late romance It's a chain reaction You'll see the people of the world coming out to dance 'Cause there's music in the air And lots of loving everywhere So give me the night Give me the night So come on out tonight And we'll lead the others on a ride through paradise And if you feel all right Then we can be lovers 'cause I see that starlight look in your eyes And don't you know we can fly? Just give me the night Give me the night Because there's music in the air And lots of loving everywhere So give me the night Give me the night So come on out tonight And we'll lead the others on a ride through paradise And if you feel all right Then we can be lovers 'cause I see that starlight look in your eyes Don't you know we can fly? And if we stay together We'll feel the rhythm of the evening taking us up high Never mind the weather We'll be dancing in the street until the morning light 'Cause there's music in the air And lots of loving everywhere So give me the night Give me the night Give me the night Give me the night Give me the night Give me the night Give me the night So give me the night you're welcome
So this really is set apart from a lot of other funk for me, it's relaxed and is torn between a modern chill vibe and a chill disco. Most of my other funk favorites are loud and boisterous, but this is was chill and smooth. Makes me feel like no other song honestly
So you hear the sophistication of Quincy Jones production. You hear the beautiful Bass of Louis Johnson. You hear the brilliant writing of Rod Temperton. The blues of George Benson's Guitar and silky vocals. Patti Austin on the angel choir
George Benson adds something really special to this music . Reminds me in Nursing school got the room at the end of the hall and it was big and I would play this song and all my girls came in and sat on the floor bed and loved my music . What Great memories you did here . Thank you
Whenever dark has fallen You know the spirit of the party Starts to come alive Until the day is dawning You can throw out all your blues And hit the city lights 'Cause there's music in the air And lots of lovin' everywhere So gimme the night Gimme the night You need the evening action A place to dine, a glass of wine A little late romance It's a chain reaction You'll see the people of the world Coming out to dance 'Cause there's music in the air And lots of lovin' everywhere So gimme the night Gimme the night So come on out tonight And we'll lead the others On a ride through paradise And if you feel all right Then we can be lovers 'Cause I see that starlight Look in your eyes Don't you know we can fly Just gimme the night Gimme the night 'Cause there's music in the air And lots of lovin' everywhere So gimme the night Gimme the night So come on out tonight And we'll lead the others On a ride through paradise And if you feel all right Then we can be lovers 'Cause I see that starlight Look in your eyes Don't you know we can fly And if we stay together We'll feel the rhythm of the evening Taking us up high Never mind the weather We'll be dancing in the street Until the morning light 'Cause there's music in the air And lots of lovin' everywhere So gimme the night Gimme the night Gimme the night Gimme the night Gimme the night Gimme the night Gimme the night So, gimme the night
Imagine being a young person listening to this on the radio during the week while traveling to work, then dancing to this in clubs on the weekends when this first came out. No wonder young people from that time were so cool.
All these musician's from the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's don't realize what contribution to human history they were involved in. All of this golden era of music will be remembered for millennial.

When I was a kid, this song was on the radio every 5 minutes. We were so lucky to grow up in such great times with such great music!
When I was a kid I had a broken leg. I still cant get it up.
Jamey Summers . Age 59. Memories of fun times. This music is precious. The lyrics are fresh. Positive vibes.
I remember first hearing this song in 88 or 89. Not old enough at that time to remember it coming out in 80. Love the vibe of this song.
And this fucking rap of my boobs came...😭
Mom would be taking me to little league baseball game on a bright sunny day in Northern California in a rag top Toyota manual celica!!

Yes it was. The best time to be alive
You guys have me by a few years. I was born in "79". I remember jamming to this as a kid though.

1980, written by Rod Temperton of Heatwave, produced by Quincy Jones and performed by George Benson.
I'd call that a dream team.
Pretty much
man like quincy
Wow,Hell Yea Can't Get Better Than That Amen.
Quincy Jones had a distinct drum sound back then. His production skills were impeccable.
They still would be. You don't lose that. He also has a great jazz background. The unfortunate part is that Rod is gone. Cancer is a bitch.
I played this song for my dad. My dad is 66 years old. When he heard this song he became a 26 year old. LOL. Great song. Miss the 80s. And on with the countdown.
god bless u and your dad .....respect 4all
How can anyone have a negative comment about this music. The best ever.
@
Alexander Osoria - b/c a lot of people are emotionally disturbed, unfortunately.
I like disco funk so much, i wish me find a foxy mix
It`s racist.
Love this, reminds me of being a kid. Always wanna dance to it... feel good music. = )
This takes me back to high school. 1980-84
If only I can turn the clock back. 🕺👫👍
goddam, how old are you?
You and me both bro.
Best Male R&B for this fantastic song in 1980 and very well deserved 👏 I never will get tired of hearing this amazing song..ever! ❤🎶🎸🎙💖
This is such a 'multi-layered' song. Recorded in reverb, you have the handclaps, the trumpets, the girls singing in the background. With George Benson, you really can't go wrong ;)
The violons, the bumblebeeing bass, male back up vocals.
And Quincy Jones' production :)
jans7676 All the ingredients needed for the perfect cocktail...
You Nailed The Ingredients Of The Song . You Really Know The Quality Of Music.
Patti Austin was only female background singer. Her voice was multitrack!
Takes me back to a very enchanting era. What magical rhythm.
I can't even begin to explain how awesome this is on every level.
been DJ for the past 11 years. since i was 16 and this mans tracks have got the cord feeling some kind of way, that's incomparable. God bless a legend
I LOVE HOW DA COMMENT SECTION ON ANY GEORGE BENSON SONG IS ALWAYS CLASSY AND POSITIVE.
I noticed the same thing, you can't be negative listening to this I think
Look up the clips Benson did for Ibanez guitars to celebrate his fortieth anniversary playing the model that bears his name.
If you just hear him talk, he's just the coolest, down-to-earth jazz cat you could ever hear talk, you just want to sit down and have a drink with the guy.
Samyel Blyatinskij hollies
TRUE!!!
boobies
this is the music forever locked in my childhood memories of pure fun and good times with family.
the bass line is so good
The great Abraham Laboriel played bass in this!
I was privileged enough to have an amazing childhood. My parents had get togethers all the time and the music set the mood. Although their divorced they still remain good friends. 8 tracks and cassettes were awesome.
Indeed.

Omg. I remember this! Old school now in days there’s no music like this!! Before you can feel the music and want to dance anywhere you were at.
Absolutely! Today's music sounds like "dog howling" & Bitch Growling".
This is a big good dynamite
silver shadows on Madison and Park dance all night
No matter how shitty my day was, I play some George Benson and my mood instantly gets better. This tune is so tight.
Agreed
The Bass line is impeccable........
Louis Johnson, bass player,du groupe Brothers Johnson (Stomp) c'est lui le bassiste sur ce titre
Marc Curot didn't know that....thanks for the knowledge
It is also DELICIOUS.
Guillermo Renteria it's the musical star
bof
Who is listening in 2021? Still love it, thank you for this great song! God bless George Benson🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏

Still do!!
The "Bump" lol
Honey this was my jam!!!
Yesterday
Brilliant!! I loved this guy growing up. Dad used to play the old vinyls & boy did it sound superb coming from Dad's awesome Klipsch speakers!
vinyl in itself is still the most powerful medium. a vinyl on a technics 1210 mkII will tear any other sound apart.... but marketing would try to tell you CDs are "better quality". they're convenient, yes. but i would pick a record over anything else. its also just a brilliant invention.
also, the crackle and popping on the beginning and ending of an amazing song on record is just an epic thing in itself that cant be described. its still a thing that is 'simulated' a lot in digital music ... because oldschool people love that old crispy sound. you can hear this example on lauryn hill's miseducation.
KILLER SONG!! reminds me of my high school librarian, this middle-aged African guy who LUVED OLD SKOOL R&B like i do, & he played this song all tha time.
I Love George Benson. He really wanna make you groove to his music. I Love it and you will too.
Lol
Mark Petersen I'm doing the best I can sweetie. Thank you for caring and kind.
Mark Petersen yes sir.we certainly have.
Mark Petersen Sounds great. I'm real not fake sweetie.
I'm really really sleepy. May I call sometime tomorrow please sweetie?
How could _fifteen-thousand people_ dislike this amazing song?!
tehy are all nazi's
Those people are just stupid kids that keep going "oK BoOmEr" at literally anyone that doesn't instantly agree with their fragile brains and supersized superiority complex.
Not much needs to be said, they're idiots that are always convinced they're better just because they're the next generation, despite not knowing how to use a can opener.
Because they didn't get the night
James H they are country music fanatics, they don’t have educated ears
We need music like this in 2016
Every year!
First we must do that all people are happy.(money for all)
When you hear this song, you think the year 1980 must have been paradise on earth. The most harmonious song ever made.
It was a great year for music.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mr George Benson march 22nd 2019 still giving us the night

LYRICS:
Whenever dark has fallen
You know the spirit of the party starts to come alive
Until the day is dawning
You can throw out all your blues and hit the city lights
'Cause there's music in the air
And lots of loving everywhere
So give me the night
Give me the night
You need the evening action
A place to dine, a glass of wine a little late romance
It's a chain reaction
You'll see the people of the world coming out to dance
'Cause there's music in the air
And lots of loving everywhere
So give me the night
Give me the night
So come on out tonight
And we'll lead the others on a ride through paradise
And if you feel all right
Then we can be lovers 'cause I see that starlight look in your eyes
And don't you know we can fly?
Just give me the night
Give me the night
Because there's music in the air
And lots of loving everywhere
So give me the night
Give me the night
So come on out tonight
And we'll lead the others on a ride through paradise
And if you feel all right
Then we can be lovers 'cause I see that starlight look in your eyes
Don't you know we can fly?
And if we stay together
We'll feel the rhythm of the evening taking us up high
Never mind the weather
We'll be dancing in the street until the morning light
'Cause there's music in the air
And lots of loving everywhere
So give me the night
Give me the night
Give me the night
Give me the night
Give me the night
Give me the night
Give me the night
So give me the night
you're welcome

Love this song never gets old such good vibes always reminds me of summertime in NY 🗽
So true
Played this for my class recently ,trying to get them to appreciate old school, and not too much of the garbage u have today😊
@@kirkbailey605 Good job todays youth is seriously lacking 👍
@@angeleyes98676 these kids today don't know how music was back then
@@kirkbailey605 such a shame but it's great they have you to move them in the right direction into the next generation.
So this really is set apart from a lot of other funk for me, it's relaxed and is torn between a modern chill vibe and a chill disco. Most of my other funk favorites are loud and boisterous, but this is was chill and smooth.
Makes me feel like no other song honestly
takes me back to some hot summer nights in the 80s
It was always hot and sunny in the '80s.
We were young and free....damn!
OMG! Yes, we were!
sure you right
Don't I know!
So you hear the sophistication of Quincy Jones production. You hear the beautiful Bass of Louis Johnson. You hear the brilliant writing of Rod Temperton. The blues of George Benson's Guitar and silky vocals. Patti Austin on the angel choir
An unmatched combination of genius🔥
@@posheebanx605 Most Genuis.
It's Abraham Laboriel on bass for this one 😎

UNBELIEVABLE GEORGE BENSON
How can anyone dislike this classic?! Best bass line ever!
Listen Jimiroquai's bass line bro !
FrauMase, exactly!! I was thinking the same thing! Best Bass!!
As much as I LOVE this song-it is simply a perfect 80s jazzy classic-the bass doesn't touch anything that Slave used to lay down
There are some cranky people who will dislike even the best songs.
blame heatwave's rod temperton for it, it seems his style (based on their albums)
George Benson adds something really special to this music . Reminds me in Nursing school got the room at the end of the hall and it was big and I would play this song and all my girls came in and sat on the floor bed and loved my music . What Great memories you did here . Thank you
I couldn't hear this song over the thousands of snapping fingers an asses shaking. THIS IS MUSIC !
This is from a time when musicians could sing, not like now.
We are so blessed to know this music in this day and time

Imagine being a young person listening to this on the radio during the week while traveling to work, then dancing to this in clubs on the weekends when this first came out. No wonder young people from that time were so cool.
