We are the ones who should be thanking you for taking the time to record, edit etc and share the magistral work that you do! I’m absolutely passionate about Rush and also a drummer, your videos has helped me not only learn pieces of songs but also during some down times in my life! Cheers
I don't know anything about drums but I love your covers, sometimes I even listen to the covers instead of the actual songs just to listen the drums better haha
Thank you, Sterling. I've really enjoyed the vids and had many questions regarding the gear many of which you've answered. I've been playing 50 years, many different styles but was lit up (like you) by seeing Rush and Neil for the first time. Your tribute to Neil in January was very moving. As modest and unassuming as he was, I think he'd have been honored. I had a huge Rush phase decades ago, and your well-crafted performances "re-lit" me. I usually play 1 Up 2 down ( nowBonham, Buddy) but reconfigured to my "big prog" set up after watching a few of your performances. Nice Job with Phil/Genesis too. There's not a lot of footage of the mid-70s Neil so seeing you play those tunes is as good as it gets instruction wise. Keep doing what you're doing. Having a passion for our instrument can last a lifetime. And thanks for the inspiration kid !!!!
You are an outstanding talent and your attention to Neil's minute details are appreciated (and envied). I watch Rush perform several times, the most memorable being at the LA Forum in 1979 or 80. Your covers are the best I've seen.
Also what I love about your videos is that obviously I get to see your talent. It’s amazing. I hope you link to some original material and hopefully an amazing band! And two, I get see see how Neil thought and composed his pieces. His style and arrangements were so unique so I thank you for giving us all that insight.
When it come to Rush Drum Covers, I enjoy the playing of Drums in your videos it is like Neil Peart who is behind the kit. Your timing is superb and is very enjoyable. Keep up the great job and I will keep watch. A Rush Nut like you Steve G. The best music of all times (2112): forever
Thank you for your videos ! I am now have better understanding on how to play Rush songs. You make everything looks easy and clear. Your videos are priceless, a very valuable drum lessons for Rush covers drummers like me.
Thank you for sharing your love of the drums and Rush! I know firsthand how hard it is to try to play some of this stuff, you are doing an outstanding job! Thank you again, you are an inspiration!
thx for the kit description and info! really enjoy your performances. please share more Q&A. it is inspiring for me to watch you here, as a fellow drummer and Rush fan.
Thanks for bringing Neil's magic to life. While I have been to a number of Rush concerts it was never close enough to the stage to see everything that was going on behind the drums. Since Rush stopped touring it has really dawned on me just how much they are my favourite band of all time.
I stumbled upon your videos a couple of weeks ago and I must say as a novice drummer myself, not only are you an outstanding drummer and musician you seem to be a good person too. Thanks for sharing your talent with us. I for one appreciate it.
Ive been a drummer for 40 years and you're inspiring me to start again. It'll have to be electric, ir the wife will murder me. Beyond that, you're articulate and literate. Talk about deviating from the norm....
Just wanted to chime in to say you're one of the best drummers I've seen on RUclips and you're far and away the best legacy for Neil Peart and his amazing work with Rush. I don't know of anyone that has covered so much of their catalog, and done it so well. Thanks for carrying on the torch.
Man! I wish you nothing but success. I really feel like you can literally sit in for the master. Truly and I don't think I've said that about nobody , I may have come close but I know I have not.
I've been listening to RUSH since the Hemisphere's album and in my circle I'm the RUSH guy. Ive been watching your drum covers for over a year now. You another youtuber Astrotama (?) are the only two who come close to sounding like Peart. These covers are truly a tribute not only to Peart but to the 8th wonder of the world which is RUSH. You've done well in honoring them and keeping them alive!! Several months back I watched your tribute to Peart and it moved me deeply. RUSH is embedded in my soul. To this day I still well up with tears and emotions about Neil's passing. We need to Hold on to the Fire of RUSH.
Loving your vids .....playing the material myself ( not to your level I may add) ,I’ve used your vids as a “ guide” to see what’s going on in those more tricky Peart moments. Well done my friend
Keep doing what you are doing.Rush is going to see and hear your playing and don't be surprised when they call you to make an album with you and you become the drummer of Rush.....Neil would be proud!
I have to agree with Big Papa, you have been given a gift and when I watch your videos I can feel Neal beside me watching them also and is Very Pleased by your performance
You seem like a very down to earth young man,and it's humbling to see a You-Tuber these days who's not going off promoting a zillion different things, but STICKS to simply answering logical questions from his viewers!!!! Well done Sir!!!
how did you get the Tubular bells, I've heard they are hard to get a hold of. You sir are an amazing musician and your videos have helped me learn Rush's songs
You reincarnate the professor beautifully congratulations and continued success and your early Phil Collins genesis is masterful also... take it from me I’ve seen both those bands 9 times and own most of their albums... great job congratulations
Your playing is great! You don't have a gift, you have practiced your chosen talent and are doing really well. It's great to come across a New generation that appreciates Rush as though of us have that were with them all the way. Rush'N'Roll! I invented that over 30 years ago...well, I thought I did. Hehe. You're not the norm and that's fantastic!
Not sure of what you're talking about half the time (I've studied voice, piano, and woodwinds not drums), but I'm fascinated by Neil Peart's drumming. As a trained musician, I certainly can appreciate the intricacy and difficulty in the instrumentation of RUSH. I am totally amazed my the limb independence. I've got digital and limb independence with the piano, but I've never had to do much with my feet, and I doubt I could do different time signatures at the same time! Keep doing what you're doing. It's enjoyable!
I’m curious which songs/performances you consider to be your greatest accomplishments. Clearly the drumming world (including me) has made your La Villa a fan favorite.
Such a big talent and such a small ego .Never talking about yourself , so humble, it's really refreshing in the ego centric world of you tube. Maybe one day you'll let us know about the man behind the talent .Till then keep those videos coming .
I think it's important to have someone who has that temperament and KNOWS these songs and plays them well. Someone to serve as a "RUSH / Neil Peart analyst". Just like you see those retired generals on the news who are designated as military analysts... It's important to have a younger person like Sterling to share his skill and enthusiasm for RUSH and for Neil, and by doing so in a demonstrative and analytical context to educate others, thus, keeping the torch burning for future generations....
Hey Sterling, I too have been a huge fan of Neil Peart from early on in my life and was always intrigued by his playing and lyrics, Although my first instrument has been guitar ,and learning Alex's solo on no one at the bridge as the first bit if any Rush I ever learned. I have always wanted to learn to play drums and I purchased a set back in 2005ish for the main reason being I just wanted to have a set that friends could play while I played guitar, much easier than finding someone willing to pack drums up to come play. The set has slowly evolved to what mimics Neils set and for some reason with his passing I feel even more encouraged to learn more than ever, kind of to feel closer to the source of what I've always enjoyed listening to. I would love if you could go over how you tuned your drums, they sound pretty close from what I can tell, and it would really help me tighten up my set, Anyways , I really enjoy your covers and will probably try to watch them as I continue on my journey. Thanks
Tuning drums is a skill where you can only give guidance, it is something completely personal that you just need practice. Over time, you will get the hang of it.
Ya, dude you’re my instructor when I need to learn a rush song or to figure out how in hell he did certain parts. Your passion is mine. Keep up the fun! What else would we do? Thanks
Thank you so much for your amazing videos! I find them endlessly fascinating to watch and learn from. I had a question - it looks like your video for "Losing It" is hidden from your feed. Is there an issue with it or is it possible to view it? I was just listening to Signals today and wanted to your treatment of this vastly underrated song. Thanks again - love your work! DMR from Canada
I’ve always loved your covers. You’re definitely the best Rush cover drummer in on RUclips. I’ve just always wondered what snare drums you use. Do you just use one main one, or do you switch between different ones for different songs?
Keep doing what your doing.. I’ve seen a few R U S H. Cover bands and 1 gury l saw (Ian) that was on a band called caress of steel in California was pretty close.. he dropped out because he moved to New York, but l will tell you, by far I’ve never seen someone as close to the professor as you.. Your an incredible find and I’m sure we all have our curiosity about you playing in a Rush cover band, and if so which one.. Your not just good your excellent. Thank you 🙏 Keep going bud!! 🥁
Hey Sterling, great what you are doing. Plenty of talent you have coming from an old percussionist. Hard work will bring rewards. Keep shit coming to us plz. EDIT: I am an IT tech (for most of my career) and grew up in the movement of electronics. I find that the edrum movement is a welcome piece. I find you don't need tons of drums to play what I love to play and I'm very old school. None the less, do what makes you happy in work and life. I do. Blessings!
I would love to see you do a song or two from the last three albums. Your fluidity in your playing seems to be what Neil was working on with Mr. Gruber. Seeing Neil apply those lessons on Test for Echo was cool. But, to me, it seems he kinda abandoned that in his return from hiatus.
Now that you handle rock , how about going into jazz? I am sure you would love some Pat Metheny stuff, and also some Weather Report. These guys are simply put, amazing.
@Boyles Terminal Shops That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. Great, great talent. @Sterling, you should write to Geddy and Alex. I think it would be a fantastic thing if all you guys could at least meet and get to know each other a little bit. I'm VERY EXCITED to have found your RUclips channel! Salute! 👍✌️🎶🎶👏👏🥁👌❗

Thanks for sharing but could you answer the question, 'Who is Sterling Fuentes?'. Oh, btw, if RUSH needed a sit in drummer, you're my vote no questions asked.
Enjoy your work young man, you've been given a gift.
Stay real.
Damn straight.
Couldn't have set it better myself.

You’re such a genuine guy. Keep “deviating from the norm”!❤️
Also deviate more by joining rush
Vital signs!
Fantastic job on all your covers. Your one of the only reasons I’ve gotten into drums. (Also what’s your favorite Rush song? 🙂)

High 5 on the 13" hats!! I've had a pair of 13" Ks and I LOVE them, so crisp and clean...I'll never get rid of them!
Thanks for sharing this video Sterling. I’d be very interested in knowing how you go about learning such complex parts with such accuracy. Thank you.
Perfect...wonderfull drums Neil peart...showwww

It would be cool if you did a tour around the kit!
Finally! I knew you had 2 12 inch toms! Always wanted to know what kind of kit you had. Much appreciated Sterling,
Neil played 2 12's, 1 concert, 1 double head. Until burning for buddy when he ditched the concerts
Jon Moran right but Sterling has two 12 closed toms as well as the 12 concert.

You and Niko Becker are in a class of your own with drum covers.
I’ve always loved your covers. You’re definitely the best Rush cover drummer in on RUclips. I’ve just always wondered what snare drums you use. Do you just use one main one, or do you switch between different ones for different songs?
You're a beast bro. Keep up the good work.

Your welcome sterling! No problem it's always great to watch you perform the art of drumming and see it in work.
How do you set up your tom tuning? Consistent range? Change it per song? Always felt like he changed his stuff slightly from album to album.
I would love to see you do a song or two from the last three albums. Your fluidity in your playing seems to be what Neil was working on with Mr. Gruber. Seeing Neil apply those lessons on Test for Echo was cool. But, to me, it seems he kinda abandoned that in his return from hiatus.
Great idea sterling can we do more stuff like this?
Just played along with Home By The Sea and Keep it Dark . Yep , Phil Collins is great .
Great job man!, you are the best! where is your family from? Fuentes es un apellido latino. Saludos desde el Perú
If you don’t mind me asking, how long did it take for you to get this drum kit, also how long have you been drumming?
I don't even play drums, but I really like Neil Peart and Rush is my favorite band! Besides Boston...
Sterling! Why haven't you covered Freewill? I plan to cover it but I neeeeed you haha Thanks for posting all your covers. They are very helpful...
Are you in any bands? If so, I'd like to hear your other work.
Good stuff. Catching the redeye I see. \MM/ Hard to say which Neil was best at writing or drumming?
You got a new subscriber
Another question. When did you buy your kit?
You should make drum covers for Geddy Lee's solo album, My Favorite Headache is such an underrated album!
I have a couple questions
What do you do for a living other than playing amazing drums?
Ever thought about doing studio work?
How do you learn songs?
the passing of the professor. if the band need a drummer you got my vote
What is the most challenging song you have covered by Rush?
what brand and key are your temple blocks on "Trees"???
Hey Fuemtes you are awesome you nailed all the Rush 🎵!! Kudos to you 👏
@Sterling Fuentes. What model of Shure mics did you use on your latest upload of Animate.
And how many mics did you have on the bass drum? Thanks.
You're so talented.
(And i said this as a drummer)
What is your process for learning a song?
what about pedals and sticks?
What are you using for foot triggers? I'm looking to add one to my TD-17KVX, but I'm not sure what I should use.
Where do you play? Is it a box or you play at home?
Now that you handle rock , how about going into jazz? I am sure you would love some Pat Metheny stuff, and also some Weather Report.
These guys are simply put, amazing.
hello TAMA brother! like your videos
Good Job, Bro!
That's not the voice and face I expected
Looks and sounds like a young Neil. How ever he's a amazing young man.

two seconds in and "deviate from the norm" had me
do you still have the 1980 cliff burton tribute rickenbacker?
Where are you, Sterling? Please come back.
Dont thank us you're the one we need to thank
