we have a 1971 javelin that was a winning race car at our home track.the car has a 401 engine and automatic trans.it won its class every week and several eliminator titles.i bought it for my son when it was taken off the track.we will be restoring it soon for street use and car shows. jim
That is beyond BEAUTIFUL, I just picked up a 1974 Javelin from Wpg, I live is Sask., holy smokes, I would love to meet up with you at a show 'n shine and display our cars side by side, posted 9/25/2016
my first car. They had a flaw with the brakes - at least my first boyfriend told me that's why we had to keep fixing the brakes (or maybe I drove like a maniac in it and wrecked the brakes lol). The coolest car. I loved that car.
In answer to your Javelin question, back in the day it was the guys with the Jav's, Gremlins and Hornets with the big blocks. the girls usually drove the Gremmy's with the 232 six in them. One girl had a Grenmmy with a 304 in it. We all wanted to date the car. lol
I have a set of black stripes somewhere around the house...lol I had a 74, E-9 Mellow Yellow with a 304 in it. Add steel belted radials and the ride is 100% better.
i used to get about 11mpgs (US) before 10% ethenol gas. the parts aren't that hard to get, as far as mechanical parts, thanks to AMC building Jeep (1970-1987) and Jeep's popularity. AMC Javelins were made in Germany for the European market (i doubt very many though), so you might be able to find one a little closer to home.
It would have a 304, 360 or 401. The 390 became the 401 in 71. I have a 73 Javelin/AMX with a 304 with some Group 19 parts on it. Lots of fun and most people have no idea what it is.
Just seen it´s an Alberta plate - if the car is from Edmonton, then I may have worked on that car back in 1974-75 while working at Noralta Motors on Calgary Trail :-)
no, the AMC 360 is not the same as the Mopar 360. amc V8s are known to have a minor issue with starving some of the pistons of oil, but its an easy fix. AMC was on par with the rest of Detroit as far a preformance and had some of the best handling muscle cars. they are not as popular as the the Big 3 cause AMC was smaller company with less resources, but they were known to be a little ahead of their time with inovations.
AMC never made a big block (or a small block). they were just AMC V8s (kinda like the Buick 350 was not a small block or a big block). the 232 straight six evolved into the 4.0L straight 6 that ended up outlasting AMC (and plymouth), finaly put to rest in 2001/2. the AMC 360 also outlasted AMC itself as it last showed up in the 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (very rare and one year only and it was an AMC 360 not a Mopar 360.).
nah, a 6-71, even if the motor was mounted low, would still stick out a little...but how many people use 6-71's anymore? I know there's a nostalgic side to it, but underhood blowers are just so much more efficient.
Awesome car. That was my first car, sure wish i could have kept it now..

Awesome car, rear wheels sit into place perfect, which isn't easy with the flared out wheel wells. Long live amc !!

my father has got a '74 Javelin too. But he has restored it like Donohue's Javelin in Trans Am Race. It has a 401 engine with 430 h.p.
Very good car. Amazing look. Greats whells ando tires.
Turbines, Amc Spirits had them, some dodges and fords as well. Beautiful rim

@corvettels9 a blower would sit some what higher depending on the blower ofcourse
Beautiful
Una joya lástima que de lo bueno hacen poco
looks kinda like the mad max car from the back
I think your car may be my computers background
precioso....!
SWEET!
Mother of god...
Those turbines do it justice...
cant expect a 6-71 for example to sit below the hood line can ya? personaly ive only seen it done with the smaller blowers tho
I always liked the one in Mad Max, the Weiand blower....even if it wasn't real. hahah
Hey, what have you done with the exhaust on this? I might be getting one and yours sounds awesome...
@corvettels9 well true the modern lower profile once are still good but im kinda old school heheh eatons and the smaller weiands would be fine

not necessarily. if the motor was mounted real low the blower itself would be under the hood, and the intake would be mounted as such in the video.
Next summer I will post a new video with a burnout
@tinkerjeep I was talking about the blower, not the car....I know what car he had.

How are the AMC performance cars? Is the 360 V8 the same 360 V8 that chrysler made?
To bad its all gone
does it got a supercharger on it?
What was the top speed.
wooow a migthy v-8
