In 2003 I was lucky enough to help a Chicago artist record his album. The artist had Johnny P on a few of his songs and I met Johnny in the studio when he was going to lay down his vocals. If you don’t know how a recording of a song happens, the song is basically done before the vocalists get there. Johnny came in to do his part and sat down next to me. Meeting him for the first time he was instantly a very kind person and I was comforted by how polite he was. The engineer started to play the song on the monitors and Johnny began to sing right to me as artists do to get a feel from someone on how their vocal sounds with the song. Johnny would belt out this amazing voice and vocal tone. At the time I only knew of PoPimp and not much else. I remember basically melting in the couch. He would stop and say, “so what do you think of that?” I’d pick my jaw up from the floor and utter words like, “ummm it sounds absolutely amazing.” I had no help for him as a musician on a vocal because it was like, “Johnny you sound F-ing amazing just keep doing that.” That raspy voice, his tone, his kind spirit. All of Jonny P was amazing. It was such a pleasure to meet him in his prime and I feel like one of the lucky ones who got to see him belt out in his prime. I saw him maybe 3-4 times during the making of the album but his memory still lives with me to this day. He was not a good one, he was a great one. Here’s to Johnny making incredible impacts on people’s lives. I’ll remember you forever and RIP good sir.
♥️JP along side of R.Kelly were the two best features you could put on any hip hop tracks especially back in the 90s and watch them turn to Gold. JP was like the new skool version of Legendary R&B singer Sam Cooke who also unfortunately met his untimely death at the tender age of only 33 years old back in 1964. If I didn't know any better I would of thought JP and Sam Cooke were related somehow. If JP was still alive they should of used him back in the or at least by the early 2000s to star in the film as Sam Cooke. JP would of been the perfect one and only choice for that role because he actually favors Sam in some ways but voice is undeniably and that's a fact. Continue to Rest in Power JP. You will always be heavily missed and never forgotten brother and I genuinely appreciate all he gave to hip hop and the R&B world during his time in the music game.♥️🙏♥️👍😎👌
I was truly blessed to have known you .. hearing you sing to me everyday in the late 90's .. The very 1st time we met at your house on Hamlin is something I will Never forget !! Rest well King ❤️🕊

One of my fav videos is on RUclips. Its Johnny P in the studio. His passing hit me like I lost a family member or an old friend. Sounds like he's had a big impact on you as well so I thought I'd share. Idk how to link that video but if you look up Johnny P in the studio it should be posted by Daniel Medina.
