Ward is spot on here. As a Brit I'll say this, in the beginning, I was a big fan of Froch and as time went on he became more and more arrogant and dislikable. He never had the following of the British fans like Nigel Benn and Joe Calzaghe did. Both action packed fighters that never let arrogance go to their head even though they both would've destroyed Froch. As for Groves, he had to deal with confrontations from Froch's family at press conferences etc until he put Froch's brother in his place. Wembley only happened because of the controversy in the first Groves fight. Ward is spot on and as classy a fighter as you can get. Groves can retire with his head held high. Solid world champ who can retire with his head held high. Good on Ward for pulling up Froch.

As a fellow Brit. I can only truly thank Ward from the bottom of my heart for schooling Froch. It was comforting for my soul and many others in the UK. Ward has always been one of the greats and carried himself with the utmost respect and integrity. The levels he displayed between froch and himself that night were incredible. He was on another playing field entirely. It wasn't even close!

The UK isn't just football, cricket and boxing. Rugby is huge with the six nations coming up. Motor racing is big in the Britain, with Lewis Hamilton leading the way with F1. Athletics also has strong following, along with many of the Olympic events triathlon, rowing, sailing track and field. Tennis is going through a transition with Murray soon to retire. Golf is still popular, just look to the Ryder Cup. MMA is becoming more popular and fringe sports like Snooker and Darts also have a loyal following. It's like saying America only has Football, Basketball and Baseball. It doesn’t even respect boxing!
Froch just has a chip on his shoulder. He got embarressed in his first fight with Groves and he's been on it every since.
I do have to pull Ward up on his comments about the UK "not having the sports that we do in the US"... He's partly right, NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL are not exactly massive in the UK, but other sports are. Football, Boxing, MMA, Cricket, Golf, Motor Racing(that has more than 4 left turns), Rugby just to name a few. The UK is one of the biggest sporting hubs in the world.

Froch was an excellent fighter no question but his public perception hasn't been that great since retirement. In my view it's because he comes across as bitter about certain fighters notably Calzaghe, Ward and Groves.

You can dislike a personality but you cant dislike what some has achieved. Ward may be the better boxer and proved it when they fought but Froch achieved a great a lot in boxing aswell and came through some hard tests which many have not faced, especially fighting everyone back to back. You cant rate an individual on creditably because of his mouth, his actions made him a world champion.

I will say that this idea of the UK having only a handful of sports just isn't true. Football, Cricket and rugby are significantly bigger, but in individual sports they also really get behind their guy, I think it's more cultural why it's harder to be a star in boxing in the US than it is sport popularity. That being said skysports boxing has never been more popular in recent times
