- More information is emerging about Mariah Carey's double heartbreak, as the singer lost her sister and mother on the same day. Carey's sister, Alison, died from complications of liver cancer. Her mother, Patricia, died just hours later. In a statement, Carey says "I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed." The deaths of her sister and mom is reminding many of the passing of Carrie Fisher and her mom, Debbie Reynolds, who died just one day apart in 2016.

Yup, sad that her sister wasn't able to speak to Ms. Carey before her death. I lost my brother who I was estranged from and only found out years later that he died, and wish things had been different. At least her sister had a friend to be with her at the end. ❤☮🌎

@@4dyamondx745that’s not aways easy and I understand after reading Mariah’s book why she chose not to keep in touch with her sister. I don’t know if they have talked to each other because I don’t know the whole situation but she had a pretty good relationship with her mother and I’m glad they had the chance to spend time together before she passed away. I will pray for the both of them, hopefully they’re at a better place. Mariah is a very strong woman but I just know that this is too much for her. I will pray for MIMI too, she’s such a sweet person and I love her sooo much, I can’t tell you haha ❤

It's weird how something permanent, such as a diagnosis or death, can instantly hit you so hard and immediately open your eyes. Intense heartbreak and remorse can follow very quickly. I speak from experience.

it's a heart breaking pain to lose your family member or members while still living ..so many families fall out for whatever reasons and don't speak or make contact with each other for years or ever again for that matter.. I've been through it but thankfully my sister and I mended our relationship ..when you lose them in death that's it ...so so sad 💔💙

Mariah tried to help her sister on so many levels, yet Allison never made any effort on her part to reconcile. Alison mistreated Mariah badly, including selling her to a pimp and even throwing hot water on her once. Look I'm all for reconciliation but If your family is unwilling to find a compromise to help resolve the issues, at some point you have to leave it alone because it's not worth it.
