The only chrome you have that’s worth a damn out of the seven is the alclad. You can readily get Gaia, e7, and modo which all produce a far better quality chrome then any other you have here. This isn’t a true test. Sorry not sorry.

Your the only person on the internet that says alclad hloss black base doesn’t cure. Of course I’m not into model plane groups. But most of the people I know say stylrez primer is garbage cause it is. And I know you live it. So I’m guessing we have different standards.

Awesome video. Since I started with plastic models (1 year ago aprox), I had this topic in clouds.
I agree with you about realistic finish.
    Thanks for the great video.
    Regards!

Worst test ever. If you can’t get a model to be as glossy as a spoon. Then that’s on you. I’ve gotten plenty of gunplas to perfectly smooth finishes

Great video, but it raises a couple of questions:
    1) What happens when you apply a clear gloss coat over chrome paint? I know that to create a mirror, you silver plate the back of a plate of glass. So, would a clear gloss coat make the chrome paint look more like chrome? Also, it's usually very bad practice to polish any paint before applying another coat (since you lose any "tooth"), but in this case, would it be any more realistic?
    2) I agree that chrome parts can look too shiny when scaled down, but if you feel that way, wouldn't a VERY diluted flat black wash knock some of that excess shine off?
It's not that I'm too lazy to try this for myself, but as a kid, I was frustrated by the lack of materials that are available today. I still cringe at the thought of squadron green body putty. I am just now testing the waters again.
    thanks

Hi - Having seen your chrome showdown series I bought a couple of bottles of MRP 31. Keen to give them a try I used it on a chopper build engine. I must be one of those not researching enough as this was over Alclad black base - what a mess!! Can I em you a pic of the result to confirm?

as i've said many times....never use alclad gloss black base. it's junk.

Ok thanks. I've tried Mr Color gloss base coat as you've used, but I've not got the finish you achieved and wonder if I was spraying the MRP at a to higher pressure? What psi would you recommend? Having seen the vid again you seem to be spraying very lightly.

Maybe what we need is scale cameras and scale eyeballs.

    Well thanks! :-) it works.
The first upload I couldn't watch... It was more time looking at a spinning circle than anything.
But I have to let it for tomorrow. It's bedtime on this side of the planet...

Hmm, now you got me wondering whether electroplating parts at home would be an interesting idea although I'm guessing some of the chemicals required wouldnt be cheap or easy to get hold of and probably stink to high heaven.

Jokes aside, a great in depth video series. I can see how you must piss people off, though. That scientific explanation/logic/knowing how shit actually works stuff always ruffles feathers in the group think lemming community and sends legions looking for a safe space where they can stroke fluffy things and re-enact Stuart Smalley self affirmations;)
