Proof ignorance can be bliss. Ripley: "How many drops is this for you Lt.?" "38. Simulated." Vas: "How many combat drops?" "2, including this one." Now aren't you glad you asked?
16:06 Just to clarify something a lot of people get wrong even with the new v2 rulebook that can lead to this mission becoming very frustrating - Newt doesn't actually move 10 spaces. Under the right circumstances she can end her turn 10 spaces from where she started, but she actually has two speed 5 move actions that EACH must end as far away from Marines as possible. She can move past Characters as per normal movement rules but if a Marine is 3 away she can't move past and still end the move action further away than she started, so she'll go in the opposite direction even if that's only one space towards a corner. Then she'll attempt her second move action which will end immediately because she still can't get any further away with a 5 speed move. It's why the terminal only peaks at the blips rather than revealing them. If it revealed them it would be a bad idea to use it. You'd reveal her and she'd run straight to the other end of the map faster than the Marines could keep up. However if you know which blip is hers you can approach it from both sides, block the exits and then have Ripley open the door to reveal her. She'll still move away from from the Marines (and by extension Ripley) but only towards the corner. It sounds really rules lawyer-y but it can significantly impact how the mission plays out. Played correctly it's a very clever dramatic touch that if the Marines try and corner her and get too close they'll make things worse. It's really tempting to rush things and move that extra step forward to try and calm her with a Marine but if they fail that roll you'll probably waste at least one round getting her back under control. Played incorrectly it feels very wrong. Newt runs away from Ripley because there's a Marine on a whole other tile while gleefully jumping into the arms of the Xenomorphs. It makes the mission/game feel unsatisfying and lazily slapped together. It really makes me wonder if the game would have been better recieved if they had of included an single example in Newt's NPC rules reminding people the move actions don't combine. It's the first mission so it's we're all still juggling rules in our heads, which makes it easy to think 'ok, Newt moves 10, got it' if there's no example prompting us to remember the specifics.
Great playthrough! I look forward to seeing more of it. I hope you don't mind me pointing out a couple of rules issues I spotted: 1- You missed a couple of blip tokens during set-up, in the top right room. 2- You can't move diagonally if one of the squares contains an obstacle, like a wall, computer, crate, etc (this is clarified in the FAQ released by GF9). 3- When someone uses the terminal to look at a blip you don't actually "reveal" the aliens, you just take a peek at the token and then put it back face down. This is a great, really thematic game, and were are really enjoying it on our household. Glad to see it getting some love here as well. :)
Can you move a few spaces and then do an action, and then finish your movement. For example. Ripley uses her first action to move two spaces, then uses an action to barricade. Can she finish her movement? I can't find this anywhere and this is popular in so many games I play that are similar.
@@BigBossReaper Unfortunately no. You have to finish an action before taking another. So when Ripley completes her move action so she can take a barricade action. It's why cards that let you take a second action or move Marines two spaces are so valuable. The game wouldn't majorly break if you house ruled it so you can take actions during a move action. However the intent seems to be to pressure the players. Having the Xenomorphs under control and planning your move actions well gives you more breathing space to take rest actions and keep the exhaust pile near zero.
@David-And-A-Half Hey. So I can't find this anywhere. What happens of you do an event and let's say it says revealed either equipment or weapon, but you reveal an event card. Do you still exhaust the event card you where playing, even though the symbols did not match, or do you get to keep it and try again next turn?
Glad I'm not the only one that spotted that. Those two blips are a small but potentially awkward complication. First test play through, I spawned 8 xeno's on those two blips.
So good to see you enjoying this game. For many of us franchise fans, its a game we've been long waiting for. Quick point, at about the 28:00 mark, when the blips broke down the barricade and were revealed, I don't think you should have got defensive fire - rule book states "When an Alien model moves into a space next to a Character, before the Alien attacks, all Characters that are up to four spaces away and within Line of Sight of the Alien may shoot Defensive Fire." The aliens were not in a space next to a Character. Just for future play throughs (please do more!)
I just finished painting up my set and have the first mission ready to start. Only one model left to finish - Ripley in the power loader. (I recommend painting that one in sub-assemblies. At the least, leave Ripley and the front cage off while painting; but while assembling use Ripley to ensure correct alignment for legs and arms.)
They're separated by the amount of blips on the back of the card. T1 has 2, T2 has more than 2, and T3 has more than 2 (I didn't bother actually counting how many blips haha I just know threat 1 has 2 blips.)
This was so tense, all those aliens spawning in at 2 and 4, yikes. The campaign seems tough with the resource pool, looking forward to watching the rest of the series (and then deciding if I want the boxes).
Great play-through video, as usual. As others commented, I think you missed the two starting alien blips, and it looked like you weren’t exhausting cards to fire full auto - i.e., you exhaust cards to activate the weapon, and then a card each time you fire (until you miss, which ends the full auto ability). Finally, defensive fire only activates when the swarm is adjacent to the target character - you can’t defensive fire when a swarm ends movement one or more spaces away - and Frost couldn’t use his Flamer for DF, as the weapon is cumbersome (he could, however, use his back-up weapon).
A lot of us complained about that on BGG. There are some acid splash card in the Get Away from Her You B*tch expansion. I don't have them in front of me to remember how they work. But the Aliens essentially have a deck of small cards.
A lil late i realized this playlist, immediately buying all stuff for this game. I Loooooove this franchise. Do someone know if the APC is available as a model?
Not sure if I missed rolling a D6 for blip movement per gameboard tile. The game is hard enough when the aliens get to move 6 :) . Also, I thought it was 1 card to exhaust for the pulse-rifle, then you if you hit you can exhaust another for a follow-up hit with "full auto" (dropping the aim dial each time). I think you didn't reset the aim for Vasquez at the start of turn 5. There are a lot of fiddly rules to juggle in this game - I kept forgetting that doors only open when adjacent.
I took to using doors (I have the plastic Mantic ones, but even cardboard standing ones like Space Hulk would work. Any door space that was in LoS of a Hero or a Grunt got a door on it. Made it easier to remember. And you are right. Pulse Rifle is just one card.
Silly question, I just bought this on Amazon: which expansion actually has extra game board pieces, because I know some expansions just have extra miniatures and character cards. If anyone can answer that would be really appreciated. Also is the game overwhelmed with rules?
Hello. So one question. When moving, can you move a few spaces, do an action like barricade and then continue your movement? I can not find this anywhere, and at this point it's become a house rule
I feel like the xenomorph’s mechanics are a bit flawed. They approach the marines but don’t have an attack themselves? Also, after you move one blip you immediately start attacking them with the marines without moving the other blip. Also, isn’t there damage to a marine when an alien is killed in close combat (acid spray). My “Leading Edge” game has the acid spray feature which I always thought was an incredible detail.
Cool - enjoyed that - my Aliens are done and I'm just finishing off painting up the marines ready for my first playthrough, but they're all definitely getting used in Stargrave and another couple of games too, they're such good models!
I remember this game man this game was hard as hell but still it was fun at least the older one i played and if any one has played the other one remember "the line of death"
A habit I've developed is flipping the aim dial after characters activate. Minor corrections (and RNGsus knows i haven't played correctly yet) each character may have 2 pieces of equipment attached, and you've got the Bypass Equipment card in Hudson's Weapon-Backup slot. Newt matches Ripley in her grunt/hero status, so she moves 8. It might be gamey, but I think you could have moved all of Ripley's 4 points of movement and attempted to interact with Newt. As others have mentioned, the cost of the weapons and equipment is the attachment cost, not the use cost. Characters can move through each other. Spawned blips can go on the spawn, they don't have to go next to it. That alien should have stopped Newt as the corner was adjacent. Defensive fire only triggers on attack, and starts with the nearest character. I think your grenade equipping was taken as a third action. The barricade would have broken-4 or less.
Did you ever figure out who was making the 3D tile set? Also, is there a way to add the acid blood and facehuggers to normal missions outside the hive?
This game looks fun, they should really do a Predator expansion. Can see how the blips could hide one or more of them to shake up the enemy behavior. Other monsters from the universe or original expansions containing completely new maps, missions and units would also be fun.
They made an AvP game a while back has Aliens, Predator, and Marines. A lot more detailed with a bigger layout it's far more complex more like a miniatures game which turned me off from enjoying it. This looks far simpler and I like the dwindling supply mechanics
great playthru as usual! I've been holding back on getting this game because I have so much stuff from the Prodos game. They (Prodos) changed the scale which made my original collection relatively obsolete. Maybe the original models will work with this scale.. hope so. thanks Ash!
The only real scale change for 2nd Edition was the Unicast stuff. But only the Marines were super noticeable, at least to me. The real problem with the Marines was not only were they smaller, but the guns were noticeably smaller. People might be short, but guns stay the same size, and the baby pulse rifles made the 2nd Edition minis a non-starter for me.
I just got this game, expansions, terrain box set, card sleeves, custom dice and a special game mat. Im so excited to start playing this but I need to start painting first. After seeing you play this im completely happy with jumping in full force on this game. Hahaha 🤦♂️😂
Fun quick play-thru. I never bothered to glue the tails on they look just fine lol btw H.R. Giger is pronounced Gee-ger although you wouldn't know unless you heard someone say it. Lance Henrickson said it Geye-ger also.
I think you missed two blips in setup. And I think you are playing the recycling and the reshuffle thing wrong. IIRC Recycle automatically returns it to your deck while the reshuffle card means you can reshuffle the exhausted cards when you run out once. (Though I might be mixing games again who knows...) EDIT: That said I like the way you played the Recycle better. (Also I might be thinking of an older version that was shown.) EDIT2: Also don't the aliens/blips roll for how far they move?
Is using computers to do a tech test to barricade the doors a legal move? Im waiting to get the game and I’ve glossed over the rules but wasn’t sure if that was valid.
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames thanks for the reply. I’ve spoken to people in the Another Glorious Day in the Corps Facebook group and they told me there is a Bypass card in which you can do it. I did hear that card being equipped by Hudson but I wasn’t sure if that was what the card did or not 🙂
on that last turn didn't you have 2 alien groups that got through the barricade but didn't end up actually moving? You just went immediately to blips rather than moving/revealing them.
Been waiting for this! Even though I'm one of the few who prefer Alien to Aliens I like that it's finally getting the Board Game loving it deserves. I just hope we get the more Horror focused "Alien: Board Game" even though Nemesis does scratch that itch.
awesome video and game. been waiting to see you build and paint this and do a 'lets play' absolutely love the components nd game play. GF9 really knocked it out of the park with this one. great video as always Ash.
Alright. I have to ask a really, really dumb question. I'm probably way overlooking it but I can't find the rules where it states how many cards you start with in your hand. My partner (who has a keen eye for detail) also scoured through the rule book and couldn't find that rule. Where does it say how many cards you start with? I'm excited to play this, and I've done gone and assembled everything (and I'm thinking about including "barricaded doors" from my old Necromunda set) ... but gorram if this rule doesn't escape me right now. I'm-a gonna keep this up, 'cuz I hope I'm not the only one who didn't pay attention, but I think I found it (and hopefully someone could correct me if I'm wrong): There is no "hand" at the start of the game, but Hicks' Hero ability allows you to draw a card. And then, along game-play, other heroes are able to draw a card as well. This led to a lot of confusion on my part, as I misheard the instructions of the video and thought that this was the case.
Not absolutely related, but speaking of 3D board elements; do you think that the 3D terrain bits for BSF are worthwhile to get? Would they add to the experience?
I can heartily recommend getting the terrain; I actually picked it up and painting everything before playing. It adds to the immersion and helps with line of sight/movement.
@@davyheijlands1956 Minis were actually pretty good but their business model and customer service is one of the worst I have ever seen out of any company. I hope they go under for screwing so many people.
@@davyheijlands1956 Also to clarify I spent 300 bucks in AVP miniatures during the kickstarter and never got anything from the company after launch, 2 editions, and then them losing the IP. No emails or responses from the company on anything.
@@slyliquid4985 sounds like just some companies think Kickstarter is easier than it is, and gets overwhelmed. Still no where near as bad as Soda Pop miniatures. At least prodos released all their content. And the content that was released was fantastic. Such a great fun game with cool models. I’m so happy to have the arcade beat em up characters and Machiko now. Even if the game is dead.
@@ImaNecron Glad you are having fun. But sounds like you are making excuses for a company that robbed me and other supporters out of their hard earned money. I don't care if they were overwhelmed or not. That dose not give you the exsuse to not give people money back or the product they bought over 5 plus years and 2 editions without even a comment or response. They lost their IPs due to they crappy handling if them and their customers.
Where did you see in the rules that you can use the computer terminal to barricade doors? I don't think you're right there. Rules say interact to look at the mission blips.
Been looking forward to this game :D my brother is a huge Aliens fan but not always into board games. Should be able to coax him into to trying this :)
Love the Alien world. Vasquez had a pistol and Drake had a flame thrower as secondary weapons. Aliens. Might need two game boards to play this correctly with a referee. Using multiple maps meant with a referee is great. Need someone who knows the game really well to referee. Brings alot real feel to the game.
I have GOT to ck out GF9, to see if you can get just the aliens miniatures. Apone: "Every meals a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade. I Love the Corps!" ALIENs.. wow 25 yrs ago this year IIRC.
Funny, when you said, who doesn't wanna be Hicks. I thought of Hudson, and Michael Biehn is way off from Bill Paxton. Turns out, I was thinking of Sean Bean. I was a bit confusalled
These games always interest me (even more so being aliens franchise LOVE IT) however, I've never played them or found the time to buy one and have people play it with me

Recycle from exhaust or hand to under the reshuffle card.
That looks like a good fun game. A great excuse to unleash quotes from "Aliens"; my most quotable movie.
Is using computers to do a tech test to barricade the doors a legal move?
Im waiting to get the game and I’ve glossed over the rules but wasn’t sure if that was valid.
Depends on the mission
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames thanks for the reply.
I’ve spoken to people in the Another Glorious Day in the Corps Facebook group and they told me there is a Bypass card in which you can do it.
I did hear that card being equipped by Hudson but I wasn’t sure if that was what the card did or not 🙂
Where can i get the 3d accessories? Cool video
They come in the box called "Assets and Hazards" apparently, they seem to be sold by a variety of online stores
on that last turn didn't you have 2 alien groups that got through the barricade but didn't end up actually moving? You just went immediately to blips rather than moving/revealing them.
Looks cool, only thing I'm not keen on is the stacks under the aliens seems fidly, not keen on counters in general. But I want the models
CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE TO GET THIS
Been waiting for this! Even though I'm one of the few who prefer Alien to Aliens I like that it's finally getting the Board Game loving it deserves. I just hope we get the more Horror focused "Alien: Board Game" even though Nemesis does scratch that itch.
I think there's an Alien tabletop game coming out this year
awesome video and game. been waiting to see you build and paint this and do a 'lets play' absolutely love the components nd game play.
MOAR
looks awesome, didn't know there was a game about Alien
Not absolutely related, but speaking of 3D board elements; do you think that the 3D terrain bits for BSF are worthwhile to get? Would they add to the experience?
I can heartily recommend getting the terrain; I actually picked it up and painting everything before playing. It adds to the immersion and helps with line of sight/movement.
Ash this is so cool! I will be looking to buy this game and all of the expansions ASAP!!!
Nice to see a soild company doing Aliens miniatures after getting screwed out of 300 bucks by Prodos Games AVP miniatures game. Glad they lost the IP.
What do you mean? You didn't like the miniatures?
Are these the same figures from Prodos?
Nope these are hard plastic originals for this game! GF9 has the license now.
Things this video taught me:
1) This game looks cool but the minis are a must for my collection.
2) Out is pronounced “Ewt” in Canadian
Wonder how the miniatures compare to what Prodos did?
“Ripleys got a pulse rifle and grenades, cause of course Hudson shows her how to use them.”
* CPL Hicks
"Hudson, sir. He's Hicks."
Heading over to check this game out, look fun
Best movie ever! So this must be the best game ever 😀
Any info on the 3D tile set?
Anyone know what size the xenomorph are?
How much does this play like space hulk?
Drukhari vs Xenomorphs. This has inspired me lmao
Played first map with some friends, we had Drake & Vasques covering the hallway.
What is ur opinion on smart rifle - roll 2 discard highest.so rolling 2 and both have identical values to hit.2 hits?
Where did you see in the rules that you can use the computer terminal to barricade doors? I don't think you're right there. Rules say interact to look at the mission blips.
Ah, Hicks has 'bypass' equipped, but you equipped it in the backup weapon slot.
LET'S ROCKKK
Thanks for my Tv fun tonight Ash....
I have GOT to ck out GF9, to see if you can get just the aliens miniatures.
Apone: "Every meals a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade. I Love the Corps!" ALIENs.. wow 25 yrs ago this year IIRC.
Sorry, your recall is faulty ! 😁 Aliens was 35 (2 years ago)
Is there an alien behavior table or just "get close and attack" mode?
to cheer on from a different scifi movie: "Nuke em Rico!"
"It's the only way to be sure"
Just ordered the game.. now they just need to rerelease space hulk so I can play it with these miniatures
Funny, when you said, who doesn't wanna be Hicks. I thought of Hudson, and Michael Biehn is way off from Bill Paxton. Turns out, I was thinking of Sean Bean. I was a bit confusalled
Totally agree!!! Who didnt want to be Micheal Biehn? I did. And I wasnt really a kid in 1984 for The Terminator.
And yes the Divide was creepy.
Yeah not The Divide Michael Biehn lol
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames I even liked him as the bad guy in Tombstone and The Abyss. But that Divide movie was just a sick film.
Looks amazing. I've bought the core and expansions. Really looking forward to playing this.
These games always interest me (even more so being aliens franchise LOVE IT) however, I've never played them or found the time to buy one and have people play it with me
Fun fact this one is a solo/coop game… so no opponents required!
@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames no way?!
