Are the buses or trams faster?

I suspect that the trams are faster than the buses because most of their route in central Croydon is on private right of way or tram only roads.

I think that Croydon, which is a London borough, has applied for city status a couple of times but has not been successful yet.

With local government in London the way it is I would think that it would have to be the whole of the the L B of Croydon, it would be difficult to separate out the town of Croydon.
