Replacing and repair of the rear rubber thumb grip on Nikon D700 camera body. tinyurl.com/kbt... tinyurl.com/me4... USA Nikon Parts: shop.nikonusa.c...
Exact thing happened last night to my D4.... I actually just peeled it off and handed it to my assistant.. THIS is a very helpful video as I just don't have time to send the body off during the holidays... THANK YOU!! The material didn't actually wear down.. but the glue softened enough that it simply migrated to the right until it was just in the way...
Bought it D700, I shot my first Wedding last week shadowing a seasoned photographer. She drops her Only camera. WTH... My shots came out very well with the D300 and i immediately began shopping for the D700 after seeing first hand how important a second body really is. It'll be in my hands on Friday along with the MB-10. Thank you for your advice and the video.
I run both line and Sony. Now let ask when was the last time you have o replace a canon series. My Canon EOS 1N still running since 199? I have replaced 2 D700 and 1 D750. No to mentioned weather seal in ORGON’s weather as a press and commercial shooter
Lighter fuel works well for removing sticky residue from CD covers and although I haven't tried it, might be better than isopropyl alcohol to get the main residue off first and then finish with the alcohol...My D700 is still in good shape at the moment.
You are absolutely correct about lighter fluid, it's perfect for removing the tape or glue residue left on the camera once the rubber is peeled off. Once the rubber is removed and the residue is cleaned up I wipe the camera down with 91% isopropyl alcohol and then reattach the rubber to a clean surface. I should also mention the residue on the rubber needs to be cleaned off before attaching and finishing the job....................
exactly. use lighter fuel to remove glue rest. The former owner of my D700 used bisonkit to fix the front rubber grip. Lighter fuel removes that dirt. I placed the front grip back on without any glue. I hope it will stay there and don't come loose again. Are there any tips?
I like the Video. I've found a mint condition used D700, I already have a D300s. Would you recommend the 700 as a main camera and i use the 300 as a secondary camera. The Camera set up it relatively the same. and i have the MB-D10 batt. ext with would fit both as well. Im getting into wedding photography. Nice job on the Camera!!
My rubber grip hasn't come off yet but it has turn a bit grey and tacky. I think its wearing off. I saw on ebay a whole replacement kit for $20. Don't know if I should get that or try to restore it with some formula like lens potion or 303 aerospace formula. What you think?
The D700 is a great camera. I also found that my rubber grips were peeling in exactly the same place. What is the shutter count on your bodies? Mine is about 70,000
because you just stick it. Takes two hands and I didn't have a tripod. If you can match shapes, you can stick it. Then just push the edges down with a tool to make sure they stick good.
+dR00Ck It's very good and it actually gives the camera a better feel in the hand. I'm a big fan of Nikon, mainly because of their superior lenses and legacy compatibility but I don't like that rubber stuff on their bodies.
dR00Ck I tried out that camera, as well as the X-T1 and funf I liked the X-T1 much much better. Still limited inits functions compared to a standard dslr but great image quality. Autofocus on X100s drove me nuts. Same thing on the X-Pro1.

+Frederick Dunn Good deal, glad it helped out!
why did not you show the process of sticking?

Thanks! Was about to buy new grips for my D700. Just bought one for $200 with peeling grips.

+swingmanic That seems like it would work well. Thanks!
Isopropyl alcohol is available in aerosol cans too with a straw for the nossle..Better than knocking a bottle over!

Two bodies for sure if you are doing weddings. D700 has some better functionality than the D300s. But they are both great cameras. I would run both.
How do you change the rubber from the USB slot?

How do you get the glue residue off thats in between the grip and the camera?

Mine were both around 70k also =)

Great cheers!
nice!
This is why I always preferred neoprene camera armour on Nikon's but you can't get it now.
+Oliver Wood Interesting, I haven't used those before but they sound good.

so 2 years later how is it holding up?
Lucas Anti I sold them both last year and they were doing good.
dR00Ck cool, what did you replace them with?
Lucas Anti Fuji X100s. I stopped shooting weddings and sold all of my big equipment =)

Use a god damn tripod 😑
