Padmini sent misleading information that she would join Ala-ud-din, but she was to come with 700 women as befitted her status. The Rajputs were thus able to infiltrate about 2000 men into Ala-ud-din's camp.. Ala-ud-din allowed Padmini one final meeting with her husband, which allowed the Rajputs to whisk Ratan Singh out from under the Khilji king's nose. Beaten, Ala-ud-din returned to Delhi, only to come back better equipped early the next year. The Rajput defence failed as a result of this second attack and, to a man, perished on the battlefield while their womenfolk, led by Maharani Padmini, performed Jauhar. This incident has had a defining impact upon the Rajput character and is detailed in a succeeding section.

Check this out, Red is the most powerful of all colors in Indian culture and holds many important meanings. Among them are fear and fire, wealth and power, purity, fertility, seduction, love, and beauty. Red is also representative of a certain time and place in one's personal life, including when a woman gets married.
After this incident Mewar came under direct control of Delhi Sultanate but this didn't lasted for longer Hammir Singh Sisodia who was a long distant relative of Ratan Singh raised a huge army and liberated Mewar from Delhi Sultanate. Restoring Mewar and establishing rule Rajput Sisodia Clan in Mewar and titling himself as Maharana for the first time
Quick context-all the women including rani padmaavati committed mass suicide coz the whole fight between rani padmaavatis husband and khilji was just for getting padmaavati, so indirectly by killing herself, she and the whole chittorh won the war coz at the end khilji wasnt able to get what he wanted from the start.
To burn themselves is a practise called johar and earlier rajput community women known for their bravery ,self respect do johar . So that they could save them selves from their enemy physically. The villain had never seen the queen but had listened that the queen is too beautiful ,so he wanted to see her and so he attacked the kingdom in which the villain kill the king in a wrong manner . So to save her self queen padmavati with all women do johar means burn themselve in fire
In Hindu culture when a woman marries, she wears red color saari during her marriage and when a married woman passes away she is put to flames after making her wear the red saari. Red means power and in Hinduism female goddesses have more power than male Gods.
The Queen Padmavati of Mewar willingly jumped into the fire well with 16000 other women to protect their dignity. That is called as " Jauhar" in Rajasthan History. They choose death rather than became slaves of Muslim Ruler Allauddin Khilji .
Its based on true event on indian history. And queen padmavati did johar. (burn her self alive along with other palace women for thier pride and kingdom because king was killed by the guy who was running towards johar) he wants to make queen his mistress so she killed her self for her pride... And about red color.. For indians red color is color of love in our marriages we wear red color and on special occasions most of the married women wear red now days too... Queen padmavati remembers as goddess of pride.. She is still alive in every indian's heart.
A simple answer. All those proud women ready to sacrifice their lives. But not ready to get raped by hundred of enemies. Or live as sex slaves. This is not Indian tradition. It's a history of brave rajput women who happily died but did not let any man touch their bodies.
Please read the history of Rani padmavati why she did jauhar. And i am proud myself I have born on that soil where A legend was born like Maharan Pratap, Rana Amar singh, bappa rawal ji, maharani padmavati, rani karnawati
Red color has a lot of meaning. Ut is usually an auspicious color for married women, red also signifies sacrifice, courage and valour and here they all are wearing red coz most of them are married women and will gonna perform jauhar so the red is also signifying their sacrifice and courage.
It's good to see how you predicated the actual reason behind their sacrifice before even watching the movie. I have seen other reactions to this scene too and they all remained confused till end.
The fire was the better choice for them, knowing what was waiting if they lived. The man you saw running was the enemy king, he started the war that killed the women’s husbands and sons...and he did it all because he wanted to take the queen as his wife after he killed her husband. She was considered to be the most beautiful women in the world and he wanted her for himself. By choosing the fire the women made all that he had done to take that castle absolutely pointless. He gained nothing by starting that war and he never even got the chance to see Padmavati”s beauty. Which serves the evil asshole right, IMHO.
The villian ( Ranveer Singh) and his warriors invaded that place ...... The villian claimed to watch rani padmavati. He once saw her and liked her so he wanted to marry with her. Then a war began between the rajputs and the invaders.... In that war the invadors won and tried to capture rani padmavati (Deepika Padukone) but she was very loyal to her husband ( saheed kapoor) so she took a cloth filled with the palm-prints of rajputs and went to the fire to protect themselves from the invaders

It is called Sati System/ritual in which a woman used sacrifice her life voluntarily when her husband gets assassinated. In Rajasthan, its called Jauhar. The cloth with handprints on the Padmaavati's hand is the permission to perform jauhar, and all the women were willing to do this, otherwise they would have been raped and brutally punished by Khiljis
You wanna know why you tear up on seeing these scenes??.. First of all it relates to religion, but don't take it in a offensive way.. think with logic and you will get what I say.... So Sanatan Dharma popularly known as Hinduism was the first religion, ever on this planet found in 2300 BCE..Yes for us its more like a way of life, than Religion, but still for easy understanding.. here I take it as religion.. No hate to any religion, but all other religions came up after that like the 2nd religion was Judaism which was found in 640 BCE...So think of it carefully... since the start of Hinduism till the day the 2nd religion was born.. Every person on this planet I mean our ancestors, were either a Hindu or Athiest.. Now The chances of being a Athiest in that era was very less.. still lets say 10% people were Athiests . so basically Almost every Non Hindu, has a past connected to Hinduism... somewhere in thier hearts, which were passed from their ancestors.. so scenes like this, will light up, the Hindu part of yours... Again no hate to any religion... This is just a logical explanation

Not fake...that Battle happened in 1303 AD..but not for Queen Padmavati.
Rajasthan historical sources by James Todd, Muhnot Nancy and Amir Khusro ( present in court of Delhi Ruler Khilji) also mentioned the battle and Johar done by queen Padmavati.

Subject: Jauhar of Rani Padmavati.
Jauhar = Self-immolation by walking into fire.
Context: In 14th century A.D, Allauddin Khilji, an emperor of Khilji dynasty (Delhi Sultanate) attacked a rajput kingdom Mewar to capture a beautiful rajput queen named Rani Padmavati.
After a ferocious fight between the two kingdoms, Raja Ratan singh ( husband of Rani Padmavati) was killed and the message of his death was sent to the royal household.
After the victory in the war, Allauddin rode his horse towards the rajput palace to grab Rani Padmavati.
Learning about Raja Ratn Singh's death, all the royal ladies (including the female children) committed Jauhar by walking into fire, before any Khilji could lay his hand on them.
According to the medival Rajput tradition, Jauhar was performed to avoid capture, enslavement and rape by foreign invaders.
