    Hello everybody Swiss-Guy here
    In Switzerland people from the government also get 1. class tickets to trains. It happened to me, and lots of friends, that i saw people from the parliament and even one of the president's of Switzerland reading a book in the Train....
    By himself and without any security personnel.
    Something you couldn't imagine in other countries 😅

      back in the 00s, i sat next to the SP-president. he had to sit into 2nd class for some reason, shook of fear and tried to hide behind his suitcase as best as possible - not exagergating; he grew paler by the second after people recognised him....

    i work for the swiss train company. this infrastructure is only possible through government support. The fact that we have alternative routes almost everywhere is what i like most. If there is a technical problem with a track, everyone can still reach the destination in reasonable time. if there is a bigger problem, we organise a bus service.

      The support is necessary because the competition by private car is too cheap. And because if no public transport, the effect would be more costly than the support. Most people don't understand that.

    FYI: 1. Swiss city buses are usually on a 7.5 minute/schedule (or 8 departures per hour)
    - of course: these local connections are fully integrated with the national train system!
    2. Several Swiss presidents and most members of parliament use(d) Swiss trains.

    15:50 The Bus service provided by PostAuto is fully integrated in the system. It is a subsidiary of the Swiss Post (the national mail service) and connects to all the villages without a railway. (In some places the buses also transport the mail respectively have an integrated letter box.)

    Hello Swiss guy here, 2:19 those aren‘t graffitis. This are mostly on Interregion Trains(IR) and in this specific wagon there is a playground. Mostly on top.

    3:18 Zurich's population is just over 400,000 and not 1.3 million people.
    4:00 Zürich: ~440.000; Genf: ~205.000; Basel: ~180.000; Lausanne: ~140.000; Bern: ~134.000
    16:10 This is why a delayed ICE train from Germany is not allowed to continue into Switzerland and is stopped in Basel to keep train traffic in Switzerland stable.

      There was a bit of beef between Germany and Switzerland regarding the connections and southern germany trains in general.
      In 23/24 (not sure which year it was exactly) there was a strike of the train-workers in germany. The SBB (The Swiss train provider) has a german branch (which i found out just then) and decided to kinda take over the southern part of the Train service, mostly just the part where people regularly travel to and fro Switzerland to work. I'm not sure if it was just for the time of the strike or if they took it over permanently, but alot of the Germans where VERY upset, claiming that Switzerland isn't supporting them.
      On one side, i can understand the angry people, because it was not a subtle move, on the other hand, we don't really want to be dragged down by another countries issues either. And we have alot of 'Grenzgänger', meaning workers from just over the border and just having them not come because the trains aren't running, would mean, the Swiss economy and more notably the medical services would be suffering too.
      And yes, the part about Basel was kinda funny for us Swiss, but not really surprising. We were more surprised the SBB put up with that for so long.

    Another nice fact not mentioned: the lost and found in the trains is great. I lost a cellphone on a train twice in my life, and both times it was found and returned to me.

    FYI, you can cross the equivalent of the president, secretaries, congress / senate people in the train, no security.

    At large train stations in Switzerland you sometimes get free drinks (or other things) because companies want to advertise new products. On hot days, that's nice. 😉 When I was a trainee many years ago, I once handed out free drinks for a company.

    That guy riding the escalator on his wheelchair did it by choice because 15 meters further down the platform there is a lift and if that one is out of order then there are two more lifts on that platform.

    I live in canton Ticino in switzerland... and i must highlight what you said about delays due to problems with the border countries... when i take the train in the morning in the station in Locarno no delays at all... but when i go back in the evening from Lugano to Locarno there are much more delays and problems because the trains are coming from Italy... which has a very inefficient service in public trains. Nice video man. Keep on pushing

    That's the kids' section of the train, each one has one and it's easy to spot from the outside with the cartoon characters. Inside they are amazing. Some trains have actual playgrounds, or board game stickers on the tables.

    A lot of the railroad track land was purchased like 100ish years ago, when lakes and rivers still flooded nearby terrain regularely, so the land was cheap since no one wanted to build on prone to get swamped and mosquito infested areas. Hence today, with damms and rivers controlled, the national railroad grid has a ton of super beautiful tracks running right along lakes, often through areas of wealthy people and their mansions.
    And the tracks going through the alps, well the old ones that take longer because they climb up and down the slopes, offer breathtaking views. And if you just want to go from point A to B afap, there's the long tunnels going straight into the south, allowing Zürich to Milano in Italy in 2-3hrs.

    A lot of people take the train to/from school/ work and it's not unusual to see politicians and high ranking army personnel at the train station. I once even sat opposite of a Lt Gen on my way to university.

    i am now +45 years on this earth - i never had a car - i always use the public transportation. now you know how i feel to see americans take always the car for 10min ride for shopping or so :)

    City Buses only every hour. Thats truly different.
    I live in switzerland and i used to take Buses or Trains to jobschool (A School you go while learning a Profession, that teaches you the theoretical part of the Profession you are learning). Already some years ago, the city Buses in Biel (City in Switzerland) came every 5 minutes on the more used routes. At max every 15 Minutes for the less used routes. Suburbs could be a bit longer wait times, but even there it's half an hour max.
    Trains to Biel were every hour from the smalltown i used to change from Bus to Train and if you missed that, an other Bus also made the connection every hour, just on the half hours not on the full ones like the train. So either way, i had a connection every 30mins either by bus or by train.

    12:40 f.e. I got to pay 380 CHF a year and my workplace will pay the rest for "Ostwind", which means I can travel in all of northeastern switzerland (train, bus, tram etc.) without having to worry about a ticket.

    Swiss guy here thst never owned a car, but had the possibility to use company cars also in spare time.
    When it comes to train journeys, the sweetspot must be between 2.5 to 5 hours journeys.
    If it's shorter distances in suburbs, the stops are frequent, slowing the train down. So you're often faster by car or maybe even bike.
    It's longer distances than 5 hours, the direct line and speed of planes is a massive advantage.
    But if you can choose between a highspeed train or a 1.5h flight + security, getting to and from the airport etc.- take the train!
    I personally live in a bigger city and work in a town nearby. Due to the direct connection i lose not even 5 min on 25min commute compared to the car.
    And the yearly, nationwide train ticket is cheaper than any car...

    Yeah our trains are great. I especially love how regularly our trains come. If you know your train leaves at 5 past, you can be pretty sure that there will be a train at five past. No matter if it is 12:05 or 18:05 (there are some exceptions to that, as there sometimes are extra trains during rush hour and some other things, but that is generally how it is). This regular time table is something I really miss in many other countries.
    Also it really is great how quite small places get regular trains. I used to live in a 8000 inhabitant municipality with 5 train stations and two to four trains an hour (to be fair, it was a small and slow almost tram-like train, but still I don‘t think many other countries would have such a good train connection to such a village).
    Now I live in a 14000 inhabitant city connected to Zurich with four to six trains an hour.

    If a train is late and you miss the connection, you can go to the trainstation and they give you a document, that it was their fault and not yours. Like that, we can provide proof in school or at the workplace if we are late because of late trains.

    The fact that 60 to 80% still don't use public transport shows how ignorant most are. While monthly regional tickets cost only 80 to 200 $. And 95% live within 5 minutes walk from the next bus, tramway or train station. Interesting that many ship and cablecar lines are included in ticket passes. Most tourists are drawn to payable lines.

    Everything fine here in Swiss exept the trains and public transport in canton Ticino, there somehow it's basically Italy but with 3 times the prices for no reason.

      I mean you are just counting up different train models and routes? This doesn't provide any info about the train network. Hardly believe the Czechs have the punctiality and extensiveness of rails as the swiss. If it is please provide info and not just different train/rides

      You failed to mention how horribly unsafe Czech trains are. They've had much more disastrous crashes in the last 20 years, compared to other rail systems.

      @@Neptune._. This rolling stock is completly replaced by brand new rolling stock in all regions - equipped both by upgrated national safety system and by ETCS!!! Only in 2024 ČD lanched 144 brand new train units (not coaches - units!) both electric, diesel with latest Rols-Royce engins, and Battery-electric dual units. In 2025 its planned to launch another 78 units by ČD and 7 units by RegioJet, another 20 electric units by RegioJet, in 2026 by ČD only in Hradec Králove region another 33 units...
      Most of the crashes had happned in totally non important village-to-village lines on the railway crossings equipped by flashing light only... But on the other hand idiots are every where - often done by foreigh drivers.. It can happen in any country including Swizerland. In case of important lines and corridors - there has been enormous huge investment in closing common railway crossings and constructing bridges and underpasses instead!
      Czech republic is a very dynamic country - that is living railway revolution last upto 10 years. I am just bwondering how you can compare things that are 20 years old, 15 years old, 10 years old and even 5 yaers old - even 5 years old things is far-far old history!!!! Important is the current situation and the enormous huge progress!!! - not 20 years old data that say nothing to current situation. COME AND TAKE A LOOK AND YOU WILL SEE THE RAILWAY TIGER!
      YOU WILL BE REALLY SURPRISED!
      But in case of you I can see that its more easy for you just to sit on back and doing nothing - and just write dehonestations! I personally would recommend you to RAVEL AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE to see the reality! I have been to 56 countries around the world - including all europeand countries, I am 42 now, and I can really compare. And what I can say according to my personal experience - Swiss railways - trains, railway stations, raiway buildings IS NOETHING TO REALLY ADMIRE from the point of wiev of common Czech citizen - WE SIMPLY HAVE BETTER and we continuously have neen working on having it more and more better....

    But you have to know that public transportations in Switzerland are veery veeeeeery expensive in comparison with other countries, even for swiss like me.

      @@YvesSandro well maybe if you earn 4000 otherwise no for most employees it shouldn't be expensive. 4000 a year is 333 a month. Median salary for full time is 6788. 333 is cheaper than a car and way cheaper if you don't own the car

    all this guy does is watch videos and make gulliable comments...and once your here you will really feel how expensive it is- look up how much a train ticket costs from Bern to Zurich round trip.. here I will tell you. 53- swiss francs round trip- in u.s. dollars $ 58.51, it's a little over an hour each way...
