If this isn’t played at my funeral, I’ll come on out and play it myself. Thankyou for playing a such beautiful, complicated, masterpiece ❤❤❤I’m 53. I learned these lyrics 6mos ago. Seen Pink Floyd twice 1988 in Orlando; 1994 in Tampa, The Who, Tom Petty in Gainesville on my 26 th Bday. This song is different for me. It’s more beautiful, passionate, sad, thankful. Thank you to the donor 🙏. And thankyou for your great reaction to this song ❤❤

I would love to know how someone can look eloquent - perhaps you can explain ?
People can speak or write eloquently, but not look. You might be thinking of elegant which sounds similar and is usually applied to someone's appearance or look.
That aside, I found her accent so hard to follow that I struggled to understand unless I paid close attention, so any eloquence was totally lost.

I got re-acquainted with this song recently by watching this version of it, performed by Procol Harum in Denmark 2006 with a Symphony Orchestra and a Choir!! This is for the ages, beautiful music as close to perfection as you can get. No wonder you had such a reaction to it, I'm glad you are able to value and appreciate the beauty of this once in a lifetime performance - to me this is the best version of this song. Gary Brooker's voice has such a quality, as if his voice had gotten better and he takes us into this journey with "Whiter Shade Of Pale" and elevates our spirits.

“A WHITER SHADE OF PALE” was released by Procol Harum in 1967 and it was their first single
    ❤ RIP Gary Brooker 1945 - 2022
*PROCOL HARUM is a latin expression that means "beyond these things”, but the legend tells that was a Burmese Blue cat, that belonged to a friend of the band and that he lived until 1972. The cat’s name was actually Procul Harun, but the cat’s name was misspelled.

🤔…..Great reaction video! 👍 First time viewer here (just might have to subscribe if you do more of this quality). I have some comments, interpreting the lyrics of this song which gives it even a deeper dimension - I will share that at the end of this - (and sorry for this detailed commentary, but I think you will find it helpful if you listen to the song again and/or share it with others).
Gary Brooker’s incredible singing in this live performance matched - or perhaps even exceeded - the quality of the original 1967 recording that took place 40 years earlier.
The band name was from two possible sources. The Latin meaning of Procol Harum is “far beyond these things”…..and one of the band members in ‘67 had a cat named Procol Harum. I vote for the cat theory. 🙂
This song and about 3 or 4 others defined the sound and the scene that was the “Summer of Love”. Unfortunately, that beautiful era only lasted about three years…. Innocence lost - marked by another outdoor concert in December ‘69 at Altamont - The Rolling Stones - they hired the Hells Angels motorcycle gang to be their “security” force - 4 people died that night.
However, great music continued to come out from the late 60s all through to the mid 90s. But 1967 through Woodstock 1969 was magic.
There has been much debate/misunderstanding regarding the lyrics. I believe I can unlock the mystery for you. The lyrics are mostly metaphorical.
The song is about a young couple who are attending a party perhaps at a ballroom - maybe even on a ship. They were either entertainers for the crowd, or they were just part of the crowd dancing….”We skipped the Light Fandango” but instead did cartwheels across the floor, implying that they were having a great time, perhaps even on their way to getting drunk. The room seemed to be shaking apart as they “ordered another drink”, but the waiter brought a tray of many drinks.
As the night wore on, the young man was fast, becoming interested in having a more private intimate time with this young girl…. But yet through her near drunkenness, she sensed it, and became frightened.
As the young man shuffled through his “playing cards” - a metaphor for looking for that winning hand to convince her to go with him - she again was unable or unwilling to give into him. Even as he told her stories, and lies about himself to impress and take advantage of her she knew she was potentially headed for trouble as “The truth was plain to see”.
The vestal virgin metaphor clearly implied that she was young, inexperienced, and not ready for what she feared was his ultimate intent.
But he kept on with his tales and lies, and he “would not let her be”…..ramping up the pressure on her to give in. This frightened her tremendously.
I have heard, but I cannot confirm, that Gary Brooker and his cowriter actually wrote two more verses, that were never recorded. We will probably never hear the end of that story.
Again, I want to say your reaction video was wonderful and genuine. Well done.

  • @mrmjb1960
    @mrmjb1960 3 года назад

Music based on Bach's Air On G String words by Gary Brooker and Keith Reid about a Party that went wrong. Sung in the style of Percy Sledge's When A Man Loves A Woman. Percy returned the favor by covering it! It's on You Tube.

I have loved this song since I was 20 years old in 1967 when the song first came out. Gary Brooker is the original lead singer of Procol Harum and sounds just as he did in 1967 ruclips.net/video/CJxpKlTID2Q/видео.html this is the link to the Original 1967 version that was a BIG HIT that year with Gary singing his lead as he did in this performance. The ORGAN is what MAKES this song. Some female performer did a remake of it a few years ago, and they completely LEFT OUT the ORGAN. It was NOT the same, it was awful. THE ORGAN HAS TO BE THERE NO MATTER WHAT. This has given me chills and brings me to tears ever since I first heard it in 1967 and it still does. It has been a very special song, almost an anthem, to those of us who were young in 1967 LOVED watching your reaction and your appreciation of this beautiful piece. We really did have the BEST songs during the '60s, it was a magical time for music.

Hi loveth - thank you for your beautiful reaction to this amazing song! I agree with everything you had to say about it, and thank you for taking the time to appreciate the great music from years ago! Now you did say you looked forward to reacting to the suggestions you are given, so forgive me, but I am going to take you at your word! No need to rush to get to any of these, but if you could put them way down on the bottom of your list to get to one day I promise you that you will never regret hearing or reacting to any of them! Carly Simon singing "That's The Way I Always Heard It Should Be", The Fifth Dimension with "One Less Bell To Answer", Don McLean with "Vincent" live in 1972, Neil Young singing "Old Man" live in 1971, Queen signing "Love Of My Life" live at Wembley 1986, "Question" by The Moody Blues, "Locomotive Breath" live from the late 1970's by Jethro Tull, "Lonesome Mary" by Chilliwack, "The Battle of Evermore" by Heart live in 1995, "Superman's Song" by the Crash Test Dummies, "If" by Bread, " Tonight Is A Wonderful Time To Fall In Love" by April Wine, and finally (for now) "You Make Me So Very Happy" by Blood Sweat and Tears! Wishing you every ounce of success and happiness on your channel and in life! Peace!!

When one considers the Chaucer reference, the song is actually rather frightening. Hence, the "whiter shade of pale..."
Think about it: The "vestal virgins" were not going on vacation but, rather, to an Epstein-like sex party. ..
