It's okay, I accept your apology. And if you seriously consider us to be the Justin Timberlake of Metal, I will take that as a huge compliment, that dude owns! Thanks for the kind words dude!
I think in every single interview where people ask about the origin of the word i have credited it to Meshuggah and Fredrik Thordendal. I picked it up on the Meshuggah Forums way back in the day, and i have only ever known Djent to refer to a palm mute, not a genre. I started using it casually to describe tone and i think a lot of people misunderstood it to be a style or genre which it wasn't. But just for the record: I did not invent Djent, and i did not coin the term. -misha
I am a late convert, but I am absolutely falling in love with every song this band has written, with this one, quite possibly, being my favorite. Such an amazing, amazing band.
FUCK!!! Every single time I hear this song I am like : " YOU FUCKING SON OF A BITCH SPENCER SOTELO WHY ARE YOU SO FUCKING AWESOME AND INHUMAN????" These vocals are like ten times further than impossible. Light years away from the progress of humanity!! How the FUCK can you do so AWESOME vocals??? GOD DAMN YOU -_- !!!!
I think it's fair to say that one will listen to the recorded version of a song far more frequently than they will hear it live. Modern recording and editing techniques make it possible to make each word and each beat absolutely perfect, and Periphery are ambassadors for perfect production. I must have listened to the new album 100 times, and not for a second do I wish it was any less perfect, no matter how they went about achieving that perfection.
laber mich nicht zu In terms of skill, yes, but sometimes simplicity is the best way to create something magical. That part just ties the whole song together, and in itself is very triumphant.
His live vocals are terrific. He has improved so much as a vocalist. Plus, with no pitch correction on the main vocal lines, I think he can pull it off live also.
Misha said himself that Meshuggah invented djent. Misha also happens to be one of the most down to Earth musicians out there right now, he connects with his fans all the time. Long live Periphery and Justin Timberlake.
Actually, Misha Mansoor was also in Haunted Shores. They both were the guitarists and all the tracks they made sounded like this. This is definitely one of the better instrumentals/demos they had going. Spencer did a track or two along with Elliot Coleman and Mike Semesky. I'm so glad this is a Periphery song now.
I had the same problem but the other way around. I was very oldschool haha. I hated screaming/growls but I adapted and started gaining a taste for growling because they just sound so aggressive and heavy. Goes to show you what can happen if you just broaden your musical horizon.
Not one comment on this video that i have seen just simply says that was one of peripherys BEST SONG EVER and i hope that they keep it up like this KEEP EM COMING!!!
***** It's weird you said that.. A few days ago I was listening to After the Burial's Nine Summers and it reminded me a lot of Sonic Adventures and Street Fighter. Something about the guitar at about 1 min in.
+The Cerulean Effulgent Solo Projects (OFFICIAL) Ha yeah this is the song that got me into periphery, then I listened to 22 Faces and that song made love this band.
I was drawn to this track for the amazing guitar riffs but the more I listen to it, the more I'm taken in by the amazing vocal melodies and the superb lyrics. I love this song!
How much i liked their old stuff.. How much i love their new stuff too.. This album must be the best album i've heard in my whole life. I can see it too, how much they all have improved. :)
Dude, only like 2% of any kind of band ever (especially metal) sound as good live as they do in studio. That's just how it works. By the way, Spencer did this album with ZERO pitch correction. When he isn't layering vocals, that's EXACTLY how he sounds live.
Periphery. Thanks for all the great music you guys keep putting out. You're one of my all time favorite bands and get me through life day by day. I cannot relate to most people, whether it's people at my school, my parents or total strangers. But thanks to your music, I realize I don't have to. I just go home and listen to your music. Words cannot describe how important your music is in my life. Thanks a million. (:
We all know that Periphery is a progressive metal band truly, but this song (and the album itself at points!) has some definite post-hardcore essence, and they rock hard at it! I like the elements that were on this album, I'm glad they're evolving and exploring their sound.
i used to listen to the original version a lot from Haunted Shores. I fell in love for it and now i have another reason to listen to it Damn, periphery made this song sound so much better and Spencers vocals? OMFG, he rocks in this!
this is such a good song written by mark okuobo while he was part of the haunted shores project, so glad he brought it into periphery and with lyrics =)
It's okay, I accept your apology. And if you seriously consider us to be the Justin Timberlake of Metal, I will take that as a huge compliment, that dude owns! Thanks for the kind words dude!
AAK Music me to. Man 2012 was so long ago. I miss these days.

It's good to see people can be diverse with vocals. These cleans are the dopest thing in existence!
I am a late convert, but I am absolutely falling in love with every song this band has written, with this one, quite possibly, being my favorite. Such an amazing, amazing band.
7 years later, do you still listen?
if youre late i dont wanna know what i am..
Mark has such a unique writing style, Its so beautiful but at the same time heavy.
Agreed, this band is just so awesome.
I thought this was the one song Spencer wrote?
This song never gets old no matter how many times you listen to it
THERE IS SO MUCH POWER IN THIS SONG
and its about ketchup vs mustard
The music video is, but I don't think that's what the song is actually about.
a lot of people don't seem to understand hyperbole lol.
Digital Screams IK R
I agree, but compared to the intro, when the guy starts singing, the drums adopt a different beat, and it feels like the song slows a bit
Just a casual reminder that this is still a new song in 2020
yup 😂
@@twinny_mi You're the only person to reply, 6 months later, and I greatly appreciate you 😂
@@master1man275 hi, another guy here haha, still the best song ever
Just a casual reminder that this is still a new song in 2021
This song inspired Demetori’s cover of Casket of Star.
1:39 I seriously love the screams on this track. They just have so much power and savagery to them.
There's just something about this song that makes you want to SCREAM OUT LOUD
Direct your soul in the essence of liiight! Shivers with this one
the progression in this song brought me to tears
This song's absolutely amazing

Nick Mavromatis you seem excited af
The drums and guitars are so intense and complex yet so groovy. Never stopped loving this one.

Somehow, this band makes the guitar sound like a summer night in my hometown. I dont know how they did it, but its beautiful.
2:33 This is one of my favorite musical moments in any song. Ever. It's so...Triumphant.
the part is completely boring compared to the openingriff...
laber mich nicht zu In terms of skill, yes, but sometimes simplicity is the best way to create something magical. That part just ties the whole song together, and in itself is very triumphant.
+dropkickproductiontx deep
laber mich nicht zu Lol its all about how it fits with the progression of the track.
YES, THATS EXACTLY THE WORD IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR! Thanks! Especially that last transition from E to D by the end of each phrase... Porn
let's goooooo new song!!! this is fire
His live vocals are terrific. He has improved so much as a vocalist. Plus, with no pitch correction on the main vocal lines, I think he can pull it off live also.
Fucking love how this song is about ketchup. I always thought it was about blood lol. Can't beat a band with a sense of humor.
Misha said himself that Meshuggah invented djent. Misha also happens to be one of the most down to Earth musicians out there right now, he connects with his fans all the time. Long live Periphery and Justin Timberlake.
I love this NEW SONG

I miss this Periphery. Scarlet and Eraised were and will always be my favourite Periphery tracks.
cant believe they made a new song!
2019 and this song feels like it came out a year ago it's aged well like wine
2021 and it just got better
Well, it is a new song according to the video title.
Replay, replay, replay, replay...
have you guys heard the version of Mike Dawes doing this song??? i think you should also watch it. its awesome
Dude yeah, I could literally jam to go to sleep. So soothing on my soul!
Just came back to check if it's still a NEW SONG!!
thanks.

Ahh, this takes me back to Senior year...
Saaaame. Actually my vacation in Vietnam the summer before senior year since I listened to that song repeatedly all month
BeatenAndScarred Ah yes, this takes me back to World War 1 dodging the mustard gas.
BeatenAndScarred hah, GAY

This is only came out 3 years old..
Cant believe this song is about ketchup

handsdown best part
The cleans and screams really sound fantastic together and Misha did an excellent job on this album. So excited to buy it Tusday!
This song never gets old, it's always new song!
It is 2024 and I can confirm that this song is indeed new
Dem clean vocals omg
This is still a new song
And I’ll always fw it
spencer's clean vox sound so amazing in this. i mean they never sounded bad or anything, but its clear his singing has gotten alot better :)
Not one comment on this video that i have seen just simply says that was one of peripherys BEST SONG EVER and i hope that they keep it up like this KEEP EM COMING!!!
His vocal range though. It's just insane
I don't know why but, i have always thought that Periphery needs to do an OST for Sonic the Hedgehog games.
Dude...yes. So much yes.
No they need to do a ost for pikmin 4
***** Megaman 8bit
***** It's weird you said that.. A few days ago I was listening to After the Burial's Nine Summers and it reminded me a lot of Sonic Adventures and Street Fighter. Something about the guitar at about 1 min in.
That will ruin their career
I feel in many ways this is their best song, and the only song I like from them
This is an old comment but I figured I'd let you know, they just released a new album (well, double-album actually), and you should give it a listen!
U will love 22 faces then.
+The Cerulean Effulgent Solo Projects (OFFICIAL) Ha yeah this is the song that got me into periphery, then I listened to 22 Faces and that song made love this band.
Phoenix Pagan awsome man!
Periphery 2 when I listened to it melted my face off, like that album was the bomb. But 22 faces was my starter too dude!:)
I don't think it's their best song at all.. You're just not a fan of complex music
2:44 This has to be the most beautiful guitar sequence I have ever heard. Periphery , you guys are not human.
I was drawn to this track for the amazing guitar riffs but the more I listen to it, the more I'm taken in by the amazing vocal melodies and the superb lyrics. I love this song!
Sounds like Protest the Hero.
+WolkerSam He definitely does have that Rody Walker feel to him.
Rody can't hold a candle to this man.
You're drunk
Nope. Spencer's got a way higher range, a way sharper tone, and a less shaky vibrato.
Nah. Rody's lows and screams are much better than Spencer's. Their highs are very similar though. I don't see where you get Rody's vibrato being shaky
how am i just not knowing about this band? omfg
Now*
Your picture goes with the comment lol
this songs alot more complex then you think lol
Exactly, also we´re not talking pure technicality, but also a complex weave of lyrics.
How much i liked their old stuff.. How much i love their new stuff too.. This album must be the best album i've heard in my whole life. I can see it too, how much they all have improved. :)
Periphery never fails to amaze! Much love from the UK

3 years later still new song lmao
5 years now lol
8 years going strong
Well this is fucking awesome.
I am OBSESSED with Periphery, especially this song...

it's actually ketchup-polyrythym-MarkHolcombcore, it's like you guys don't even know your genres, jesus
3:37 I tip my hat to Spencer
Lmao who cares if the song means anything. Its hardcore af. Especially ripping down the freeway 100+
Damn, Spencer's vocals just keep getting better and better! His screams are actually much better now!
Some of the best clean vocals I have ever heard.
my studying music : >
Saaamee
wow....fucking new favorite band
why didnt i discover this band earlier?
Ive heard of them but just never took the time to listen to them
JonnyCraigFan4Ever or maybe because you're into Jonny Craig too much xD
*ahem* Anyone here in 2019?
Well sumerian does have a pretty good promotion team and its for the better! This band is so underrated and finally gets a boost in fans!
His voice sounds awesome live
This is djent?
***** Not sure why metal elitist hate it so much.
***** xD yeah and slayer isn't even that good either.
+Daska noess I couldn't agree more.
its primarily written by Mark who is a bit less "djenty," than the others
Tbh this has no similarities with Meshuggah
Man I remember listening to this band when it first came out !!!! Some fucking good times practicing parkour and attending massage school !
This is awesome, been waiting for so long for something new. Cheers guys!
Such an awesone band live
Great song from great album!
Awesome new song
i wish i had the talent and awesomeness of spencers voice!
I just discovered the joy of listening to Periphery not but a day ago and now I hear this? I think this band is my new shit

Love the Rody Walker vibe in the clean vocals
Spencer can hit every note live; every low and every high.
this singer is phenomenal, i would love to have a drink with him to talk about how to sing with such power.
His voice is so awesome.
wow amazing song!!!! You can definitely feel the passion in the vocals - and that melody, truly awesome :)
Loving this song and the CD!!!
This is some good classic rock. I miss the 70's.
People who say the vocals suck... i would LOVE to see you even attempt to sing/scream like this guy. The vocals are a masterpiece.
Agreed... you don’t have to like Spencer’s vocals, but you can at least appreciate his vocals for what it is.
I'm listening to this song in 2023. I heard this album in like 2019 and it's still a great album to this day!!
Awesome vocals!
Damn, this has been a new song for like 9 years now
(NEW SONG!)
November 2020 here, and it's still obviously a NEW SONG!
1:15-1:58 dude, they were COOKING with this
such a feel good song
i used to listen to the original version a lot from Haunted Shores. I fell in love for it and now i have another reason to listen to it
Damn, periphery made this song sound so much better and Spencers vocals?
OMFG, he rocks in this!
Great song guys!
mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn this song just ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beginning riff. amazing
So used to listening to this as an instrumental.
this is such a good song written by mark okuobo while he was part of the haunted shores
project, so glad he brought it into periphery and with lyrics =)
this is the best group of the new generation of metal music
The screaming part over the verse is so so chilling!
I feel like Spencer fits his vocals into these songs so well. . For example Jason Richardson and Luke Holland
This song is perfection
I think they all have their unique sound and stlye.
i listen to this everyday pretty much
