Thank you Pam for sharing such a meaningful story about your Fathers gift of that really cool cake plate, these stories are treasures from a very special time when the little things mattered to us all. These stories are special in each of your videos and I look forward to hearing them all❤ always be you!

This looks delicious. Thank you for sharing the recipe, and also for sharing that nice story about your father giving you the cake plate. It's easy to see why it means so much to you.

Pound cake is delicious, so will definitely try this recipe. They freeze really well, and toasted slices with a little jelly are really yummy. Thanks, too, for using freeze-dried eggs. I purchased some, but haven't tried them in a recipe yet. Your blouse is beautiful!

Pam: So many of us have newer ovens that are convection. Most of the recipes were developed before the advent of convection ovens and while some manufacturers convection units self adjust by lowering the temperature 25 degrees lower automatically, not all of them do. When baking dense cakes it is important to bake them at slightly lower temperatures and the color of the baking pans matters also. Darker colored pans retain their heat more than lighter colored pans. Like you demonstrated it is important for the cake to reach its full expansion before the exterior crust has formed allowing the center of the cake to cook along with the exterior to get an even bake. In the past I used to make wedding cakes and it was necessary to use cake wraps on the outsides of the pan to prevent the edges from cooking too quickly. They are strips of cloth like material that were wetted with water and placed around the exterior of the pans to ensure an even bake of large cake layers. I really like that you are using ingredients from your food supply to illustrate that survival needs to come with some comfort foods. Another good video!

  • @wendyrotchstein98

I've never made a pound cake before. Thank you for making one and even better, using pantry items! I've been practicing making meals with what I have on hand and now I can make this too! I appreciate you two so much! I think it's really important to learn how to cook with freeze dried foods and other non every day items. I wouldn't want to have to learn in a disaster situation!

  • @henrycooks1883

Beautiful cake plate and story. I make that pound cake all the time. Sometimes I do the recipe in 2 bread pans, give one away or freeze one, reduce cooking time and switch pans in oven half way through. Now I want pound cake.

  • @mariapina1973

Love the surprised look on your face when the cake came right out of the pan!

  • @chrisbaker5051

I read years ago somewhere to put cake in a cold oven and then set temp to 300. Bake 2 hours. This method has always worked for me. An important note: ALL ingredients must be room temp.
