I didn’t realize my husband was also listening while I watched you…the other day he came up to me at work and said “one of my patients was talking about learning to can and I told her she needed to watch RoseRed Homestead because she’s the best”. I thought you should know that even in a busy medical practice you are loved!!!❤
Jim, I hope you see this. No need to "remember" which way to turn the wheel. All you need to do if the trailer has gone "offline" (lol) is to look in the side mirrors. You turn the wheel towards the mirror you see the tail end of the trailer in.
@@kimvanlandingham4168thank you for that info. I just bought a 14ft flat trailer (for hauling compost, fencing, lawn mower etc). I haven't pulled a trailer in over 20 years and I am relearning to maneuver a trailer.
When my mom died, I wanted the ancestral Junk drawer. When she remodeled her house, she took the junk drawer from the old kitchen, and moved it into one of the new cabinets. Just took that drawer and put it in a shelf. When I got it, I did the same thing. It wasn't organized, but it had so much important useful stuff in it!
When I was in school, we were taught anything but. That was intentional. My greatest regret is not dropping out at 15 and going straight to the library instead. I started having that regret the last week of senior year, when two teachers explained that I could've taken my GED at 16 and immediately started community college courses.
I grew up in a very loving family of 13. Organization was part of survival. It also contributed to harmony in the home. I sit here as a widow and retired banker at age 73 watching you with my day planner and notebook close by on my coffee table. Some habits die hard. 😉Very much enjoyed this video. 👍🏼
About five decades ago, my dad taught me a fairly simple way to steer a backing trailer the way you want it to go. Instead of placing your hands at 10 and 2 on the steering wheel, use your dominant driving hand to grab the center BOTTOM of the steering wheel. Now, to make the trailer go to the right while backing, move your driving hand to the right. Same goes for moving it to the left. Putting your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel automatically reverses the resulting direction of the trailer, so it goes the way you want it to without thinking about it. Your mutual enjoyment of doing things together is engaging, so fun to watch! Thank you. (PS to Pam, I also have about 75,000 emails built up…)
I was also taught to hold the steering wheel at the bottom. Always has worked and never have to think about it. Works great for backing up a boat down the dock. I have made a lot of of people drop their jaws in awe. 🤣
As a truck driver I can agree with this. Also don’t over steer. Very small adjustments. Especially with small trailers & boats. Otherwise you’ll easily jackknife.
When you organize your pantry, you might consider over the door organizer racks like those sold at The Container Store. It increased my pantry capacity by about 30%, which is great!
I have a full length over the door organizer that I just love...freed up one large cabinet by filling it with spice jars, all organized front and center. Another one is filled with essential oils for my soap and lotion making. Great organizers they are.
THANK YOU for being wise enough to NOT show us you cutting your vegetables!!!! I HATE channels that show cutting, unless they are professionals who do it super fast and accurate. You just earned a subscriber!!!!
One thing I learned over the years of cooking is get all ingredients before beginning to cook instead of looking for things as you cook…it is imperative to a successful meal. Now I have to apply that to everything else I do …thank you for this video.
😂 Old RV fulltimers here, your chat about trailer backing had me in tears!! If you stay married after backing a dozen times you will never divorce! Watching others backing up into a site is great comic relief! You two are SO adorable..love the duo videos!
When I step out of my bed, I have to make it right then. I can't stand to walk by it, not made. When my late husband backed the boat and motor home into the backyard, it had to be perfectly straight with the edge of the cement driveway. If not, he would do it again. I so enjoyed this video.
Jim and I have a similar experience with our military fathers, "do as I say' My father did give me discipline which served me well all of my life. I learned from others as well. I also was a factory worker who got paid by 'piece work' so I developed techniques that got the work out and carried this attitude over to my home to save time. Time was the factor to 'getting organized'. I was working, raising a child, building a home, I was forced to get organized. Yes, I used a list, It is amazing how much more work can get done with a list.
Good timing. And like you both I planned to move. My whole house was packed except the essential things I needed until my home sold. With prayer I found that right now I am to stay where I am. So I won't get overwhelm with things lying everywhere, every week day I open two packed boxes. And on the Saturdays' I open four pack boxes. I put everything away that I love and need and the rest goes to charity.
I grew up in a house without a functioning kitchen. We ate out or used the microwave. I was looking at the garlic and ginger thinking…”I hope she shows me how to peel and cut that! I love fresh ginger!”
I am finally back. Had alot happening lately. I absolutely adore your channel. You and Jim have taught me so much. Thank you for always putting the truth out there. Your canning videos are definitely my go to for the right way of doing it. God Bless both of you.
I enjoy your classes I learn so much. I re-watch them and take notes. My mother always taught us you need to have schedule she believed it gave children a sense security and accomplishment. It was the way I was raised and I raised my children this way. People always comment to me how did get my children to do chores without arguments I just answer they know what there responsibility are and they know what is expected of them. It simple concept.
Thank you for introducing me to Steramine. My son is immunocompromised. I cook all his meals and wash all his vegetables. He has never gotten sick from any meal eaten at home. Restaurant food has not been so forgiving.
I have a 32gal junk tote. I have been organizing with totes, but I can only get a couple at a time. So the big sort tote really helps, and will be repurposed at some point. It'll likely be replaced with a small tote, because there's always "junk".
The variety of topics in your videos never ceases to amaze me. It’s always something useful and timely. Thank you… and the camaraderie you share makes me smile. Jim, your description of backing up a trailer hit close to home…I remember many times that I stood behind our trailer giving sometimes incorrect hand signals and praying to the good Lord that we didn’t take a tree down as it was backed in.😊 I appreciate you both!
I so enjoy seeing you both smiling and laughing. The act of organizing/staying organized is a real challenge for me. Growing up Iwas not given chores nor was I really taught any organizational skills. Doing my best to learn at a not young age lol. Enjoyed the lesson and got the printout. TY!
#4 our saying is not to let the excellent get in the way of the good. Seeking impossible or very longwinded perfection means you may not get the benefit of settling for just ‘good’. Because I do that !
I agree with you about having the counters free of clutter when making a video and having your food already prepped. One thing I don't like to see when others are cooking is having a dog or cat in the kitchen. Thank you for this video.
I LOVE that you experiment! My husband and I enjoy watching as you come up with answers! It’s helped us to learn and make decisions for our household. I, too, MUST have a decluttered kitchen to function. When I was studying for my BSN degree, I had to have order to my immediate environment in order for my study time. If my counters are cluttered in the kitchen, I can’t cook until everything is cleaned up and in its place. My husband evidently has a mission to dirty every knife, pot, and dish while cooking and has no problem working over the mess! Did I mention he doesn’t do dishes!??? Needless to say, I stay out of the room until the dust settles! He’s a pretty nice guy and handy to have around….he’s 6’7 and knows how to fix things so, guess I’ll keep him!😂😂😂
Great class! Decades ago I was told by my Managing Director that I was an organizer and a planner! I took that as a compliment! Now, after having been retired for a long time, I realize that I have let some of those patterns go! I want to get the organizing and decluttering going!! Thanks for the reminder on how to organize! I am on Stratera now, in my 60s. As a child learning and projects etc were easy for me. As an adult I can not complete one project. Interruptions throw me completely off and I have a hard time getting back to it. But for 28yrs as a nurse I had no problems concentrating and getting my work done. Even double and triple checking the medications I pulled up for patients. It is very frustrating and overwhelming now to not be on task and have projects incomplete at home. My husband and I try to park our motorhome where we can watch people back boat trailers in the dock! It is so funny! It takes lots of practice! And it takes a team working together! sometimes we have to back our 42 foot motor home into our spot, we have learned how to do it well! We Talk on phone , me outside and him driving motorhome. We work well Together . Some People do not!
It is nice to see Jim joining you for this video. I need to learn new habits. I am one that can find order in my disorder, but with age I am now forgetting where in my disorder are the things I need. My pantry is the first that was organized but still working on it so this class is perfect timing.
Gosh… I’ve been watching you guys for almost a year… You’re adorable… Additionally, you have a really good basis, it’s obvious you research things before you give the information out… I just wish more people would understand this… I would love to meet you both… Are you considering having guests on your channel? If so, please let me be your first… I can promise you I am your biggest fan.!!!🎉
Great topic. I typically be myself as fairly organized and, like you, when shut upon a task, I tend to be hyper focused on it until it is as complete as I can make it. However, I have been struggling to apply these principles, especially habit building, at the big picture scale , particularly relating to how to turn many of these preparedness activities into a regular lifestyle. Having the time to do things like make freshly baked bread or can can or get out of the garden. Seems to be more of a treat because my everyday life is so busy. And on the occasions when I can try to dedicate a big block of time to getting something done, my wife sometimes gets mad about me dedicating some free time to these things It would be interesting to see these principles, especially habit building for a preparedness mindset, applied on A real world lifestyle, especially for those of us who work a typical 9:00 to 5:00 job with two kiddos at home, and still having the time to dedicate to family and relaxation
I was doing some organizing today. I’m having knee surgery in a month and want everything ship shape lol. Perfect timing for this video and lots of good info!
In reference to backing a trailer and this comes from backing my boat trailer. I use my side mirrors on the vehicle for one and I have found that I turn the steering wheel toward the tire that I want to turn. So I don't have to look over my shoulder I just look in my side mirrors and the tire that I want to turn I turn the steering wheel toward that tire basically that side of the trailer.
Pam, I’m in my 60’s and still working on these skills. I’d love to have my pantry as organized as yours is… likewise for the junk drawers. It is truly a gift to be a natural organizer. My ADD brain is all over the place. I love things to be organized, but struggle with getting them there. I have not given up, though. A big part is letting go of doing it the ‘right way’ and just finding what works.
I have ADD as well, as did my mother, and my son. Because my mind is so chaotic, my environment needs to be well organized. It’s a constant battle, but I never give up. Please know you are understood. I am 74 and having my home organized IS my bucket list!
Awesome video and it just so happened to pop up while i was thinking about organizing the barn. That was a very productive hour for me. 😂❤ i also cannot cook with a dirty kitchen, i literally refuse and will clean it .. eat whatever, i dont care. Lol. The seasons make the barn kitchen active..and i had all these different fertilizers, grilling stuff, animal foods.. everything in total disarray. Feels much better already. Thank you! ❤
I like to have my kitchen organized according to type of cooking, example: I have a certain bowl, measuring cups and spoons and pan or pots for each type of cooking. And not to use for anything else.
Oh, Ms. Pam, I sure NEEDED this video. I took my sons bedroom, after he moved, and made it into a formal pantry. And, then moved, and moved stuff, until I was ready to cry. When I finally stopped and said. Bread/Grain here, Veggies, HERE, and meats/proteins here etc., was when the mind boggling craziness, stopped. It just came together. And it was fast. But, my kitchen pantry, - grab and close the door 😆. You just inspired me to get it done. But, this time, in order-ish.
We are sorry to hear about your organizational frustrations, but is sounds like you have better grasp on what you need to do to bring "order-ish" to your pantry. Let us know the results. Jim
I so agree and am thankful with every aspect of this video. You both have a wonderful sense of humor with each other:) I love Jim's 2 pens in his shirt. In my life and younger days I have known several engineers as well as brilliant Aspergers who always had pocket protectors full of pens, pencils, slide rules etc. LOVE it!!!! +JMJ+
Yup…I’m one of those organically Natural organizers …. … not sure I could teach anyone how to do it as I don’t think twice about it.. 🤷🏼♀️ ….it’s not even goal oriented…it’s just who I am and how I roll…although I can navigate through it, I’m not comfortable in chaos but challenged by it just the same and I’m continuously sorting and organizing along the way… it’s almost like a game to me lol… I love to multitask and see how many balls I can keep in the air 😉…. I don’t analyze things as a whole..I just do as I go with the flow… I may be organized but I’m not anal about it. 😐
I had this happening. I would spend 30 minutes here and there focusing on one bin or category. It took a while, but every session finished made everything else after easier.
Good class with good ideas! I, too, need to have no dishes when I awake & I have to make my bed. The lock downs drove me crazy because of trying to store some emergency supplies plus hurricane readiness so at this time I feel still overwhelmed. Thanks😊
I just love your videos! Thank you for all that you and Jim do. I absolutely agree with Lists. I too do a food/menu/shopping/packing list for our camper trips. The first one is always a doozy, getting them back together after de-winterizing is quite the list.
Thank you so much! I have been hoping for a video on this. I was so organized at the beginning of the year, but life happened, and now I have to reorganize some things. Your advice will help.
FYI… You probably know this already, but I would want to know this if it was me. When you went to your first cooking example, your audio changed. It was much richer before. Love this class!!
I’m like you as regards meal prep. I can not cook, bake, create or make anything edible unless my kitchen is clean and spaces cleared-it’s just not going to happen.
Yes, we like our kitchen to clean, uncluttered and have all of our equipment set-out and ready to be used during the process when needed. Unfortunately, that does not always occur. Thanks for watching our videos. Jim
I went through the same thing after our kitchen remodel. We gutted the whole thing and even removed a wall. Our pantry, that was outside of our remodel. It became a huge mess. I only have 4 drawers now so I had to downsize the junk in my drawers. Gave lots of stuff away!
On a semi related issue, do you think you could or would ever do a video on scheduling many of the things you do into a person's daily/weekly/monthly/yearly life schedule? So many things I want to do, but with a 8-6 job and two little ones, I can hardly find time to get the bare essentials done, let alone canning, dehydrating etc
You and Jim are a hoot together. 😅 A suggestion on backing up a trailer ... put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. The trailer will turn in the same direction as your hand. Also, when we camp with our longer trailer, we use two-way radios, especially when it's getting dark. 😊 Tell Pam that I wish my pantry looked as nice as her disorganized one 😅 Time to put that chore on my to-do list. Guilt by association. ❤
I love your video's and am in the midst of cleaning out a middle room. Funny in a 1930 house closet space is non existent, but I bought for the Moldings, floors and charm. Picture a Main Bedroom with no closets and on the entire 1st floor 1 closet. I made the downstairs closet into a pantry over the winter, but I will watch this video as Middle room has 2 closets but I need space. Thank you
This interesting! I just got in from trying to clean and organize one of my sheds. I had to move fast so things were thrown into boxes by many friends so I have no idea what is in what box. We put all that into the shed and after barely moving in I moved again so more boxes then surgeries and I have been procrastinating getting all that sorted. Many things have been replaced. I just worked till I wore out and will attack it again tomorrow. That is hard because organizing around such disorganization it tough! I got part of the floor clear so one step in the right direction! This is a job that no one else can do. Darn!!!
It is great to have friends come over and help, but even when you label and number each of the boxes, some items get misplaced and looking for specific items can be frustrating. We are still unpacking from our planned move last summer that we cancelled). Jim
@@RoseRedHomestead My daughter said she is still unpacking and she moved long before I did. But in the military it is a much more organized move. Mine was far from organized. We will get there though!
This was a very good step by step how to...but (referring to myself)...there is an emotional and mental component to accomplishing organization. My mother was a bit of a hoarder and you don't throw things out because "someday, you or someone may needed it". I lived in hidden piles of clutter of stuff in extra rooms, closets, and storage units. Trying to make a decision on what to save, throw, donate, or preserve to pass down causes extreme anxiety and possibly a panic attack. My personality is that of a severe minimalist, but I live in clutter. My strong ADD issues affect the mental component, my mother-in-my-head dictates the emotional component. Any ideas on how to conquer these issues? I can't be the only one.
You left the second R out of the appropriately on number 6. Oops sorry. I spent too many years of proofreading at a local newspaper. Love the video. Great strategies for organizing.
Thank you for being so observant. We did not see it until after the fact as was pointed out to us by others. We will have to do a fine-tooth comb read of each white-board writing before each course presentation. Thanks for watching our channel. Jim
Thank you for reminding me to make lists, that works best for me. The sound is difficult with this video, never experienced that with your videos before.
If you haven't already heard it, I think you both would really get a kick out of the song "The Kitchen Junk Drawer" by singer-songwriter Michael Longcor. Very cute song! A video of him playing his guitar and performing it is available free on YT. 🙂

So glad to hear that. Jim
Love your beautiful necklace!
And on the occasions when I can try to dedicate a big block of time to getting something done, my wife sometimes gets mad about me dedicating some free time to these things
It would be interesting to see these principles, especially habit building for a preparedness mindset, applied on A real world lifestyle, especially for those of us who work a typical 9:00 to 5:00 job with two kiddos at home, and still having the time to dedicate to family and relaxation
You are both such great educators, thank you! But Jim does have you beat Pam on talking with his hands😂😂
I was doing some organizing today. I’m having knee surgery in a month and want everything ship shape lol. Perfect timing for this video and lots of good info!
You are welcome, Jim
What a treat. You are both so
smart. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us. I love organization. Fellow list maker here. ( and addict)😅😊😊😊❤
Thank you! ❤
Glad it was helpful! We are happy we were able to assist. Jim
I like to have my kitchen organized according to type of cooking, example:
I have a certain bowl, measuring cups and spoons and pan or pots for each type of cooking. And not to use for anything else.
Thanks for sharing!! Jim
Jim
I love your energy. I M THE WORLDS BIGGEST PROCRASTINATOR.
Wonderful video! I too am a list maker for Everything, especially on my daily to do's.
Yes! Thank you! Jim
I love this class. Thank you for the information
I need to organize my preps! Everything is in bins! Not even sure what I have!
I had this happening. I would spend 30 minutes here and there focusing on one bin or category. It took a while, but every session finished made everything else after easier.
Thank you both for sharing this video. Love the playfulness between the 2 of you.
I really needed this! I love all of your videos! My favorite is when you laugh! Also you look really good in black!
Yes! Organization and routine are key.
Im always surprised when people say they don't how to do it.
Thank you Pam and Jim! A great topic
Love a well-crafted checklist! So satisfying to check off the completed tasks. ✔
We totally agree! When I go shopping, I always draw a line through each item on the list one placed in the basket. Jim
Thank you.
You're welcome! Jim
I ❤ YOU! Your pantry looks like mine. Two of my three junk drawers are similar. I reorganized one and decided the other two didn’t need to be.
Jim
Love your channel. Jim you’re doing a great job. ❤
Great class! Thank you.
Thank you for the inspiration.
I went through the same thing after our kitchen remodel. We gutted the whole thing and even removed a wall. Our pantry, that was outside of our remodel. It became a huge mess. I only have 4 drawers now so I had to downsize the junk in my drawers. Gave lots of stuff away!
That is certainly one way to do it. Jim
I needed this class. Thanks very much!!!
You're very welcome! Jim
Emails. I have different emails for different things.
It's great when you dealing with bills, families, subscriptions, job.
Thank you both. I really enjoyed learning just love you both
Our pleasure! Jim
Thank you for sharing . I very much enjoyed this video , thank you both . 🇬🇧💛🤍
Our pleasure!
You and Jim are a hoot together. 😅 A suggestion on backing up a trailer ... put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. The trailer will turn in the same direction as your hand. Also, when we camp with our longer trailer, we use two-way radios, especially when it's getting dark. 😊 Tell Pam that I wish my pantry looked as nice as her disorganized one
😅 Time to put that chore on my to-do list. Guilt by association. ❤
Thank for your helpful and fun comment!!!
Thank you
Thanks for watching our video. Wow, I am not sure what to say about your space issues. Let us know what you do when you have figured it out. Jim
I wish I could send you pics, it's a lovely home. Thank you for replying.
I love lists. I make lists of lists to make. ❤
Helpful! Enjoying your channel!
Thanks for watching! Jim
Jim
great class, thank you
Thank you for reminding me to make lists, that works best for me. The sound is difficult with this video, never experienced that with your videos before.
I LOVE love love the entro 😄💗
Excellent, thank you
Glad it was helpful! Jim
If you haven't already heard it, I think you both would really get a kick out of the song "The Kitchen Junk Drawer" by singer-songwriter Michael Longcor. Very cute song! A video of him playing his guitar and performing it is available free on YT. 🙂
I'll check it out! Jim
love your videos!!!
I love your music
Thanks! Jim
Great information
