I shook hands with Mario in 2002 at his winery in Napa. I was 36 and I was awestruck. Perhaps the greatest all around driver of all time. My hero for sure!
Great to hear the enthusiastic voice of Rob Widdows again. He always makes for an interesting interview. Mario is a legend with fascinating stories. Thanks for this.
Mario is immortal and is still sharp as a tack. He was the greatest of all-time, competitive in anything he drove. Hoping to see him soon in the Andretti Global pit in F1!
I was at the Queen’s Hairpin when Mario took the lead in 1977 at Long Beach. It’s not very often you can hear the cheering over the sound of the engines, but you could that day . . .
Mario Andretti is one of the best. Humble well spoken man. I was lucky enough to see him race at the first Molson Indy Vancouver with his son Micheal , A.J. Foyt and other great racing drivers .
Since 1970 more Americans have stood on the Moon than the top step of an F1 podium. I don't see that changing any time soon. Feeling glad we have one of those men here today, Even if he wasn't born on the Fruited plain. Having your hero from when you were 9 years old on a podcast when you are a grandpa may be just as rare.
I met Mario the day after the 100th running of the indy 500 down in turn one, He had been taking people out in the two seater indycar, He was very pleasant to talk with and a real gent, I got a great photo, Thank you Mario Andretti for being as awesome in person as I always imagined you to be! A real Champion 🏆
I would have liked to ask Mario about Firestone and how that company helped him get started and cross over into so many other series. From the start of his career he did test with Firestone and anywhere cars raced on Firestone he was driving them. Also any mention of the years when Nigel Mansell was his teammate at Newman-Haas and the rumors of bad feelings between them.
F1 Listen up. Lets get Andretti F1 moving!! Don't be scared cause you know they gonna kick ass. And F1 lets race the IMS oval. The banking is not that high. You have to race all types of tracks and that would guarantee a huge new audience and more money for your greedy pie slices
This is a great interview but I can't help but wonder why "Divine Providence" didn't choose to protect all the great drivers Mario knew who were killed following their passion. Mario was a gifted racer...and more importantly, very lucky. No "Divine Providence" was involved IMO.

Very few all round drivers like him. Vic Elford, Matthias Ekström, Walter Röhrl, Sebastien Loeb, and a few others.

Yep. And a sweetheart. Beyond legend
What an amazing insight into his career. What a legend.
Excellent interview.
Mario is such an icon
Thanks for that amazing interview ❤

What a lovely man with those stories from his life in racing. Thanks Motor Sport and Rob's beautiful interview with Mario.

Absolutely top interview, Mario on top form, great prompts/questions from Rob Widdows. Beautiful imagery as well. Thank you, MotorSport Magazine!
What a great man and human being. Such a credit to Motorsports and all its virtues. God Bless Mario and all the Andrettis.
Mario's a national treasure and I think the Andretti name will be a crown jewel in motorsports for years to come 👍👍
Really enjoyed your talk. It’s not often the host just lets the guest talk. Thank you!
My hero since I was 8. Met him a few times and even interviewed him as a high school student in Phx. Signed my glove box on my restored 911

GOAT
Ha, never.
One thing we all know as a fact, is YOU are not a person who can make that judgement @@ronbelanger4113

Why doesn't Stefano domenceli respect mario?or Michael
What current driver in F1 is an American?
One of the Williams drivers is a yank.
Logan Sargent
Ok thanks. Never heard that name but F1 has not been on my radar lately.
Who? The immigrant the drives?
