    Looks like the driver rear caliper is mounted upside down, probably inadvertently put the pass side on the driver's side and vice versa. The bleeder screws should be at the top side of the caliper to properly bleed the brakes.

    • @gaspoweredgarage
      @gaspoweredgarage  2 года назад +3

      Thanks for seeing that. The rear brakes calipers are just bolted up for mockup to test wheel fitment and tire clearance and suspension checks. Will swap caliper sides afterwards.

    Great video!!! The whole fuel tank is not needed. Grand National sending unit will work with lots of aftermarket in tank fuel pumps.

    • @gaspoweredgarage
      @gaspoweredgarage  2 года назад +1

      Appreciate the thanks.Grand national/monte carlo tbi sending unit /pump will work with all gbody tanks. Reason I recommend the whole tank was because of the bowl the fuel pump sit in so when your low on gas or round corners you dont get fuel sloshing causing lean spikes or the fuel pump sucking air up instead of fuel. The easy fixes are the new Holley fuel pump strainer or a efi style tank.

    • @SkillzManifest
      @SkillzManifest Год назад

      I also heard that you can use a Caprice early like 9 1 fuel tank that's plastic will fit as well when converting to EFI

    • @gaspoweredgarage
      @gaspoweredgarage  Год назад

      90s Caprice wagon / buick roadmaster wagon gas tanks works for gbody el caminos. The sedan caprice/impala/roadmaster tanks are longer than gbody tanks so they don't fit properly unless you remove the spare tire well to have make a flat trunk floor to accommodate for the extra length needed.

    I have a 1978 Malibu and I’m looking to upgrade the suspension . I’m going with the q1a . What q1a suspension kit do you recommend if I’m going with off set rims? 20’s on the back and 19’s on the front. Also I’m going with the wilwood brake kit

    • @gaspoweredgarage
      @gaspoweredgarage  5 месяцев назад

      qa1 suspension is a good brand to use. How are you building your malibu? Is it focus on straight line/drag racing, protouring/handling, extreme autocross/ high speed, showcar/just for looks? Once you figure out the focus then i can guide you to what suspension works best for your application.

    Is there by any chance a kit that you're referring to for the LS1 brake setup on a Ford 9-inch

    • @gaspoweredgarage
      @gaspoweredgarage  Год назад

      No one makes a ls1 rear brake kit due to the multiple bearing ends used for the ford 9inch. so depending on what bearing ends you have for your ford 9inch will vary what bracket setup will work. if you have chevy style bearing ends then Oem ls1 rear brakes & backing plates just bolt up. if you have any other bearing ends then this company off ebay is the one i would recommend which has the correct brackets based on the other style bearing ends you would have for a ford 9inch -
      ebay.us/TWQ33o. Also Here's two video links to other videos i made explaining gbody brake setups and the parts needed. ruclips.net/video/IaLjsHFwa1Y/видео.html

      The 5.3/4.8 is a good option if your end goal is boost. 6.0 or bigger lsx/ltx engines are better if your staying n/a. But if your on a budget the old small block chevy is still the best bang for the buck even after modification.

    Everything stated in this video is definately food for thought for ugrades... i currently own a 1979 malibu 2dr coupe that i bought a little over a year ago, straight body, great paint job(repainted in its original color-light blue metalic, code22), original V8 car(267), full interior, working factory ac/heat. It came with a ZZ4 crate engine, 700r4 trans, 3.73 rear gearing w/posi(7.5), 1 5/8" full length headers, full dual 2.5" exhaust riding on factory suspension and brakes. Figure the driveline has some life left in it, i want to convert from the carburetor(holley SA770) to EFI(Edelbrock Pro Flo 4), so the information on what gas tank and fuel pump support and assembly is just what i needed, next will come the suspension and the brakes upgrade. This car is just for weekend driving only, just a cruiser, keeping it naturally aspirated, not for street/strip racing, go to swap meets with, cars and coffee type gatherings, just something to show off and be proud of while keeing everything budget friendly.

    • @gaspoweredgarage
      @gaspoweredgarage  Год назад

      I like your plan on how your going to build your malibu. To help I do have a overdrive video you should check out to make sure you have all the parts you need when installing the 700r4. Im planning to make a some videos about suspension only, then brake only ,then fuel only which will have additional information that i couldn't fit into this video coming the next couple of weeks.

    • @Bige4u
      @Bige4u Год назад

      @@gaspoweredgarage Oh... its the way i bought the malibu, it already had the ZZ4, 700r4 trans, 3.73 gears w/posi, headers and the dual exhaust system installed. Its currently carbureted, but i plan to go with the edelbrock EFI system sometime later this year. So the only things i plan on upgrading is the fuel tank, all new fuel lines/system, suspension and brakes, suspension and brakes being more of the priority at the moment.

      Sure I daily drove a gbody elcamino for a long time and enjoy it except the miles per gallon sucks. If I was to daily a gbody now I would make sure it has ac/heat, overdrive trans so it would be at lower rpm all the time, your maintenance items done like suspension,brakes good then cruise it all the time. The only time I wouldn't daily a gbody is if you have a rare one like a 1981 lemans (one year front end) or grand am since there hard to find parts if they ended up in a wreck.

    Which cars came with that serpentine set up?

    • @gaspoweredgarage
      @gaspoweredgarage  7 месяцев назад +1

      the serpentine setup i like to use on 4.3 v6s or small block chevys in gbodys are off 90-96 chevy trucks( v6/v8 sbc models) /s10 pickups(v6 mode only)l/s10 blazers( v6 model only). they made two versions in those years a smog pump style and a non smog pump. if our running a mechanical fuel pump the non smog pump brackets give better access to fuel pump. smog pump brackets require a add a smog pump bypass pulley so you get the right belt tightness. you can use the 96-00 serpentine setup also if you like the ac on driver side and alternator on passenger side like gbodys had from the factory. the only difference is the 96-00 water pumps use a threaded nut in the center versus the 90-96 use the traditional 4 bolt to hold the water pump pulley on.

    78-82 needs frame extensions not 83-84

    • @gaspoweredgarage
      @gaspoweredgarage  Год назад +1

      If you look at when overdrive transmissions were put into gbodys it was 1984 by the manufacturer. Thats why I said 78-84 cars need frame extensions. Plus over the years of working on gbodys I've ran across more 83-84 cars that need frame extensions especially if they were lower trim level models than the performance models.
