In this video we begin a new series of videos that relate to handling and suspension for your 1978-88 gbody. this first video i show your how to make your frame and chassis stiffer by adding braces. which will help your car handle better so you can experience the road and have more fun while driving. i show braces that you will have to hunt find either thru salvage yards / junkyards or ebaymotors or facebook marketplace or facebook groups. some of the braces are bolt on or require little modifications and a few will require some welding to make or weld into place. then lastly i show a alternative route and what your need to get from your local home improvement store to make custom braces....

I need help bud me and my son are working on his 83 cutlass we put a 350 from my c10 in it. threw the 307 got it on good im just having trouble finding the driveshaft for the 700r4 i put on it. i heard i can get one off a astro van to fit i just dont know what year. I also have the exact stock driveshaft that was on my car with the 200r do you think it will be better to get it shortened? If so do you know the length?       The hydramat solves the problems associated with stock fuel pick-ups in stock fuel tanks. During hard cornering, acceleration, stopping, inclines, and low fuel conditions fuel runs away from the fuel pick up which introduces air into the system resulting in poor engine performance and even stalling and wears the fuel pump out faster.

      To fix that you need to buy adjustable upper rear control arms. Which will let you adjust the rear end left and right allowing you to be able to center the rear end and have the same distance on both sides. The ones I like to use are from umi suspension item number 3025.

      the two sensor bracket setup is off a 04-08 supercharged 3800. which has two map sensors on it. one is vented to atmosphere and the other is hooked up inline for vacuum originally. using the two bracket map sensor its is a plug and play for 97-03 n/a 3800 when doing the top swap and you only need one of the two map sensors.

      I would like to make a video on turbocharging a old school small block chevy like a 283 , 305 ,350 engines on a budget. But the only thing I haven't found thats budget friendly and don't require tons of modification is the turbo exhaust manifolds/turbo headers. Once I find a good turbo manifold/headers I would recommend then that video will in the works maybe next year.

      @@andrewcumbia5623 I already have a complete running 350 in a truck and another in a parts truck, also a 4 bolt block in my garage. I want to turbo charge a 305 to prove a point. and that is displacement doesn't matter if you have boost. Trust me I know why 305s are the least desirable engines ever made. I might be wrong but it doesn't matter, I will just pull all my turbo stuff off the 305 sbc and use it on a 350 sbc.

      My favorite small block chevys for boost are the 265, 283, 267. Since they love high rpms and low rear gearing like 4.10 to 4.56 when built right. Turbocharging whatever engine you have and have fun with it should be the end goal. Now if your going for all out performance that different I would skip any small block chevy and go all the way to a big block chevy for your engine then add a turbo or two.

      @@gaspoweredgarage I didn't realize you were the guy with the channel. Ok, so then why are you messing with a V6, just get a V8, lol. Anyway, I used to be a big block guy and now I want to be a turbo small block guy. but I know nothing about boosting an engine. Part of the reason I am going to turbo charge a 305 is because I don't want to be scared to blow it up. I have never ran a boosted engine and from my understanding is that getting the carb to act right might be a problem. So why not do it on a worn out 305 first and then one that I built and did ring gap on. Before I ruin a 350, and maybe a 305 on boost might just be good enough for me. I don't know I'm just trying to get in to it and mess with some engines.

      To help make your swap easier look for a wrecked 2006-16 impala ss or 2006-07 monte carlo ss to get the whole engine with transmission, engine wiring and interior parts cheaper.

      The reason alot of people don't do the swap is the ls4 engine doesnt have alot of aftermarket support and harder to find compared to 3800 engines.

      Yes a ls4 will fit in a 97 monte carlo. If I was going to do that swap i would use a 06-07 monte carlo or 04-08 grand prix aluminum cradle, engine,transmission, wiring. So you could just unbolt the original whole cradle from the monte then roll it out of the way. Then roll ls4 cradle with everything in place and lower the 97 monte carlo over it and bolt it together to make it a simple swap just needing to focus on the small stuff like exhaust downpipe,wiring hoses ,etc.

      Yes and all the parts talked about in the video will work to top swap your n/a 3800. Since your car has a electronic throttle body use a 2004-08 supercharged throttle body when you do the swap.

      El camino and malibu share the same hood for perfect fit. The cutlass hood would bolt up but not line up or fit properly. now if your el camino has a cutlass or regal front end then the cutlass hood would line up correctly.

      Yes 18x8 with a 4 1/8 backspacing will work. If you want the same tire all around i would use a 245 width tire. If you want staggered tires I would use a 245 width front and 275 width rear.

    I've been thinking about getting a turbo conversion on a 3.4 liter in a Grand Am GT. This was the closest video to that, and all the steps would be the same. Thing is though, that transmission GM put in their Grand Am's was the weak link. So nothing less than a tranny swap would be needed, and if you did that, might as well freshen up the motor too. This brings me to the question, what about forged pistons? Or gapless piston rings? I think on a low-HP turbo installation, keep it below 10psi and stock pistons would live for a good while. I wouldn't try stock pistons on a high-HP installation. What's your thoughts on that?

      if your goal is under 600 horsepower and your going to freshen up your 3.4 i would leave the bottom end stock and just upgrade the top end with 3.5 parts and a turbo. then run e85 if its local and available to you. I'm in the process of making a video about what is needed to turbo the 3400, 3500,3900 engines. that video will be out soon.

    Hey man, what's the part at 7:22 called? That long-ish mounting piece? The pulley I can get via an 8 rib conversion kit I'm sure, but that particular mount I'm having a hard time finding. Just ordered the tensioner bracket for the sc. Is the dog one part of it? I don't see a dogbone one on mine I am attempting to do this to a 2000 lesabre.

      the longish mounting piece is the lower idler mount and pulley. since the supercharged 3800s used two idler pulleys to put tension on the belt that runs the supercharger. the lower idler mount and pulley mount to the block with three bolts and the second idler pulley mount to the coilpack / dogbone bracket for cars with dog bone mounts. for your lesabre your going to not need the dogbone/coilpack bracket from a grand prix/monte carlo/regal/impala. but instead look for coilpack bracket off a bonneville supercharged or your existing n/a 3800 and then add the two idler pulleys and mounts and supercharger tensioner. if your ok with buying used parts use the website car-part.com to find the parts at junkyards/salvage yard that are local to you.

      ​@@gaspoweredgarageCurrently looking into taking the "eTorque" mild hybrid system from a 2019 RAM truck and bolting it in place of the alternator on a LeSabre. Basically half of a top swap (need 8 rib pulley, idlers, high performance tensioner, and probably a totally custom mounting solution for the hybrid motor) but it's certainly going to be unique.

      @@jeanpierreremond2565 yes you can reprogram your computer yourself using hptuners software. If your computer savvy then it shouldn't be that hard for doing the basic things like transferring a l32 engine file onto your l-26 ecu or the simple questions that just require turning on or off in hptuners. Now the more advanced stuff like the fuel mapping/ timing or adjusting transmission shifting kind of things. I would either pay to have tuned by someone /company or do small adjustment at a time and hope your not in the market for a new transmission or engine due to making the wrong tuning adjustments.

      Since your 03 monte carlo is cable based throttle body the l67 throttle body is the one that will work. You will need the throttle body adapter also so It will bolt to either your plastic intake or the 2004-08 metal intake. Heres the link to the adapter- ebay.us/bNpUq6

      2004r is a 4 speed automatic transmission. If your current transmission is a turbo 350 3 speed automatic then yes the flexplate and driveshaft will work in the swap to 2004r. If your using a manual transmission with a flywheel then it won't work in the swap to 2004r.

      Overdrive is part of the transmission. You will just need the lockup kit i explain in the video so your transmission will shift into overdrive when you get to about 55mph.

      For the el camino that is using a 7.5 rear end and the 2004r swapped its using a 61.42 inch overall length driveshaft and measured from center of ujoint to center of ujoint its 58 1/2 inch long.

      Yes the Tony Stewart and Dale earnhardt monte carlos came with 17inch wheels.the 2013-19 ats/cts brembos front brake calipers used with gxp grand prix rotors won't work with 17inch wheels. You have to use 18inch or bigger to clear the calipers.

      @@connrr9297 your talking about the supercharger belt tensioner and you can get it at your local parts stores if you want new or junkyard/ salvage yard if your on a budget and ok with a used one. Use car-part.com website to see which local salvage yard has the part in stock based off your zip code.

      You can flash the supercharged information to your original non supercharged 3800 ecu with hptuners. My preference is having a supercharged ecu and or a extra ecu so if issues or problems happen while top swapping i can use the non supercharged one for diagnosing to keep the downtime to a minimum.

      Since salvage yards near you don't have those bars your best bet finding them for sale thru facebook marketplace, ebay, craigslist or car-part.com. I've seen the some of the gbody vendors make reproduction versions but there pricey. The best budget way is how I describe at the end of the video from home improvement materials.

      @@Big_LosF all you need to make that swap happen is a series 2 engine and transmission and ecu / engine wiring harness. To get the best deal i would find a donor vehicle instead of buying the parts individually.

    My dsd recently got a 04 LeSabre as a project & lowkey wanna boost it but would probably leave it NA I would mainly do an intake the intake & coil packs from ZZP (but since the ZZP intake isn't cheap & I'm on a budget, I might as well get a short ram intake lol), NGK iridium plugs & wires, Flowmaster Super 44 (idk if the rest of the exhaust should stay stock, I want it to sound loud & deep), & maybe the Series 3 intake (if doing the Series 3 intake has any noticeable gain on the NA 3800)

      series 3 upper intake swap doesn't make any power gains but does fix the issues the series 2 intake has like cracking due to heat cycles/ high mileage/age, melting issues if engine backfires, leak issues, etc. plus if going the turbo route a metal intake is safer when running over 10 psi of boost. if your coil packs are good and not having issues i wouldn't waste your money on the zzperformance version there a great appearance mod but other than that there expensive compared to your local parts store good replacement coil packs with a lifetime warranty. To give your exhaust a deep tone without the high price of flowmasters. look into thrush welded mufflers. if your going to make a cold air intake stay away from short rams intakes. they just suck in hot air from your engine bay giving you less power. two version of cold airs that have the best results are fender well intakes or a box style like the zzp/ k&n cold air since they use a box/shield to direct air flow to filter and keep hot air away from air filter.     The problem is the whole rear suspension not just the rear end. Including the frame flex. You need to reinforce it. It flexes a lot and will eventually twist the body.

    Can you explain what LS1 brakes are so I can find them as well? What vehicle did they come from and were they direct bolt on to the ford 9”?

      ls1 brakes refers to 1998-02 model camaro and firebird brakes. they were installed on all trim levels so v6 model and v8 model. if you use the factory camaro /firebird backing plates like how i did it they will need to be machined in the center. since the backing plates act as a retainer for holding the axles bearing in place also. if you use aftermarket brackets you would have one for retaining the axle bearing and the second one for the brake caliper and rotor. i go into more details on what parts you need for using the ls1 rear brakes in this video-ruclips.net/video/ezwhuGdWcAE/видео.html.

Twincharged sounds fun on paper but is a nightmare due to all the issues that show up which needs deep pockets from the get go if you go that route. turbocharging or supercharged route is the best 3800 budget friendly options to keep a 4t65e transmission alive unless you go 4t80e. whats your horsepower goal your wanting to achieve?

    The radiator brace works on boosted cars. All the turbo regals intercooler behind the radiator

      @@87TurboT i could see on a monte carlo, regal or grand prix the radiator braces working with a intercooler since they have a bigger opening between core support and header panel. Compared to malibu and el camino , grand am, lemans and bonneville it won't work with a big intercooler due to shorter opening between core support and header panel.

      yes you can do this to a supercharged 3800. remove the supercharger and lower intake. then get the parts talked about in the video and use the series 3 n/a 3800 intake setup( upper and lower). then if your cable based throttle body use the gen 5 adapter also if your electronic throttle body just bolt onto series 3 intake.

      @@Sstone89 your grand prix is tunable. If your goal is less than 400 horsepower your transmission will be alright as long as you don't run slicks/ dont do burnouts. nstall a shift kit and aftermarket transmission cooler to keep trans temp cool to extend the life of your transmission. If your goal of over 400 horsepower you need a performance built transmission with all the available parts and those transmission start at $3500 - up.

      If you run on 87 to 93 octane gas i would use your stock injectors till you hit 80 percent injector duty cycle in the tune then its time to upgrade. If your plan to run e85 if that's available in your area a fuel pump and injectors upgrade is needed from the get go.

    I'd have to look into it more but my guess is that if you want to do a mild build for under 500 whp you should just do a top swap. If you want to do more horsepower, my advice is to go with a L67 (the supercharged variant of the 3.8 series 2) and boost the shit out of it. 20 PSI should hold up pretty well. Get a garret supercharger or a b&w. The lower compression of the L67 will make more boost safely. As for the intake manifold, people have said to use a gutted out supercharger and fab a plate. Never heard of this before but sounds like a good option, especially if you already have the L67. If you want to do some machine work you can mill 0.100" off of the piston and fit some LS gt2 cams in there and use shorter gaskets. That's pretty extreme though and have only heard of ZZP doing it.
