I got in with someone’s IT training class and during my interview I act like that was my job by describing what I was doing in that class as if I was working. Basically I faked it till I made it. Went from making $25 an hour doing physical security. to $73 an hour. Just scaled from there. You just have to network and finesse your way through the rest of the journey.
Interviews are easy to get in IT. Just a matter of what’s on your resume and the demand. I’ve notice once you get your first tech role. You really don’t have to go looking for jobs because they’ll come to you especially if your cleared.
@@FinesseTheTrader sounds good, because I still have my secret clearance form active duty. I’m doing my IT network & security class now and should be finished in February. I am a Veteran and I would like to thank you for this awesome amazing information that so many people gate keep! I can verify so much information that you put out and I learned things that I didn’t know. This course will change lives!
Great info! I know that you've probably covered this x10 in other videos, but I thought that I would ask here. What are your tips of thoughts on the various clearances for civilian applicants? Or just applicants without clearances applying for these GovTech positions? Thank you in advance for your info. Keep up the great work.
I wish I would have known that you could negotiate with HR during hiring. I got offered a GS-11 IT Specialist position with Customs and Border Protection and took it. It was already 10k more than I was getting paid. But two guys hired after me negotiated and got GS-12's. I got promoted to gs12 after a year but I definitely had the experience. Now I'd love to become a gs13 or higher. I'd love to make 150k but I don't have any certs. I have years of on the job experience and can do my job very well but no certs. So I don't know if that will prevent me from going higher? I should get my security + cert.
I've had a hard time getting a job anywhere. I'm getting an internship in January 2024 with a degree in IT and security+ certification. I hope this will be enough for me to get an actual job. It seems that is the minimum requirement.
Hey I was denied for public trust clearance today can you help me how to mitigate around this? My records are clean and strongly believe there is no reason for denial
Symone, I have zero tech experience but I'm working on my security cert and learning Linux. Should I go the comptia cert helpdesk, entry level path first?
You get promoted by switching different IT contacts asking for a minimum 30k pay increases. Instead of staying getting 3% every year. This is the beauty of working govcon for the past 3 years I’ve been in. This is free sauce y’all. Finesse with Put me on tech.
How long does your training program take to go through? I have my first engineer apprenticeship currently at Bank of America working as a systems engineer , but I’d like to transition to Govt roles when my contract is up in 9 months
Okay , I wanna get into Govtech I’m a teacher loving paycheck to paycheck. Does anyone /can anyone tell me a good place (affordable ) place to take courses like security plus.
Go to Cisco Skills for All and do their networking and cybersecurity courses then do ISC2 free CC certification course and take the test for that cert. At that point you'll have some solid entry level cybersec knowledge.
I'm a junior in college majoring in Comp Sci concentrating in Network Security, IT, and Data Science. Do you think this cert is a + to my degree and would it be better to work these jobs instead of internships? Are most of them remote work and if so would I be able to work them while continuing school?
use your leverage of being a student to get internships in big tech companies. I recently graduated with a cs degree and no internships and getting a job is dreadful at the moment.
You need certifications from the specific cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP). I would suggest focusing on a single provider, especially the ones the government uses most… either AWS or Azure.
CompTIA is the company that issues the Security+ Certification. There are really no prerequisites, you can just study for it and take the exam. Some people say CompTIA A+ & Network+ certification will help you, but it’s a waste of time imo.
So basically you need security plus? To even be considered? Has anyone taken it recently heard they switched it up? I have net+ and azure fundamentals cert working on az-104 then probably go for sec+
Although there are no prerequisites for CompTIA Security+, we recommend at least two years of IT administration experience with a security focus and earning the CompTIA Network+ certification before taking the exam
