Wow! That's spectacular. Amazing you were able to catch it. Thanks for sharing. I'm not sure I would be able to see so much with my own eyes even:) Kudos
@mlillies are you from the states? I would guess so because I saw this storm and there was no space between the lightning the sky was absoutley lit up!
I know this is a very late reply, but that's IC (intra-cloud) lightning. You can see it fairly clearly if you look closely :) During a very active thunderstorm, it's not uncommon to see strange phenomena in the sky.
@meadman718 If you watch closely, you can see that it's a bunch of clips editied together. That's why it looks like the CN Tower is getting hit frequently.
i just came back from a party when this happend it started off as frequent lightning with no thunder but around 10:00 pm it was some crazy shit the thunder shoock my whole building
@vaendi109 except this night environment canada said there was about 20,000 strikes per hour. i was up during this and i didnt catch more than 1 and a half seconds of darkness
holy sh*t that was intense, fascinating yet deadly had I seen this when I was younger up close I would have been terrified like anything. But nowadays I find myself to be more interested in thunder storm and lightning whenever it happens in the U.K. on the rare occasion.
It's not only the lightning hitting the CN tower, if we look closer. Paying a bit more attention to many of the bolts, we see upward lightning, a crazy phenomena, where - the following is just a theory made by the scientist Tom Warner - the tower or other tall structure builds up a charge around it, and when a connection to the cloud is made possible, that charge leaps from the structure up to the cloud. I think this theory matches the best, but it's uncertain how it works exactly. But all in all, upward lightning is really spectacular. (^^)
lol i regret being outside now xD i was in mississauga man i wish i lived in a building but then again its only the pretty views tht r worth iit lol...
I will soon be posting my footage of the storm, having watched it come overtop of me from the north before it hit the tower... I am concerned that the city is acting as a magnet and drawing this storm in... In all my years of stormwatching in the country, I have NEVER seen anything like this... My house shook for an entire hour, and lightning struck so close to my house it fucked up my camera for a minute...
@NaNaNaN990 hey ur laughing but check this at1:03 a lighting strikes, iyou pause it, u will notice an enormous cubic shape being lighted up by it, comment on that please!
it really is beautiful grandma... It really is. Oh sorry... just a conversation between old friends. wait what? What am i talking about. and what the hell is a panslap?
@rayban2865 It was a crazy storm, lighting every 2 seconds, that tower, the cn tower, is very tall and always gets shocked like that
Wow, Its Amazing what Nature can bring! Lightening this thick isn't normal and extreemely rare. Quite amazing.
Great job. Wild storm. Saw it coming for hours.
That's really something! I'm not near Toronto, but we had it almost as bad. Thanks, for sharing your vid.
great video ! same type of weather down in windsor
Wow! That's spectacular. Amazing you were able to catch it. Thanks for sharing. I'm not sure I would be able to see so much with my own eyes even:) Kudos
Yeah that storm was unreal. Watched it for hours. Can't remember seeing a light show like that before.
Lightening kicks ass!
I love Mother Nature .... simply "Electrifying".
I was at the base of the tower and saw the lightning in person. I took some pictures but this video looks way better. Thanks for sharing. :)
I was there it was so ear piercingly loud and bright the winds knocked so much thing in our neiborhoud down and my family and other cleaned it up
@mlillies are you from the states? I would guess so because I saw this storm and there was no space between the lightning the sky was absoutley lit up!
@MalcoVich615 its a sprite. above cloud lightning that can shoot up to 80 kilometers into the air. they can move across the cloud for several seconds.
thanks for this :) very interesting.
really cool video looks like the CN Tower was turned into a Huge lightning rod .
One of the worlds greatest lighting rods! =)
Beautiful :o
Thats Incredible. Serious Power!

I miss S. IL just for the lightning, average 2 times a week the storms had lightning like that. Central NY state, has way less.
@meadman718 If you watch closely, you can see that it's a bunch of clips editied together. That's why it looks like the CN Tower is getting hit frequently.

Hi Rico, I would like to ask if I could use pictures from this video for data in a school report on lightning modeling.
@vaendi109 except this night environment canada said there was about 20,000 strikes per hour. i was up during this and i didnt catch more than 1 and a half seconds of darkness
Was that intense or what? I was right across the street from the CN Tower. That thing is just one huge lightning rod.
holy sh*t that was intense, fascinating yet deadly had I seen this when I was younger up close I would have been terrified like anything. But nowadays I find myself to be more interested in thunder storm and lightning whenever it happens in the U.K. on the rare occasion.

This beats the best fireworks show.
One of these is happening right now in Ontario atm...
Do you mind if I use some of this footage for a montage/music video of mine? I'll give you full credit.
It looks beautifull
it looks like the ghost busters movie abit :O
What a perfect day to do the Edge Walk!
lol i regret being outside now xD i was in mississauga man i wish i lived in a building but then again its only the pretty views tht r worth iit lol...
I thought lightning doesn't strike the same place twice!?
@robbyj325 Tesla did. Initially had some problem with storage but:)

Somebody has clearly overloaded his or her TV...
Shenron is Coming!
Y is the tower attracting it and no other building?
@brattette i have no clue but it freaked me out.
it looks like the lightning is coming out of the cn tower!! :P
bad stormy night for sure yuppers yikes
That storm was good im only about an hour away from T.dot
pause at 38, might not work for everyone, but the whole sky is light up
I will soon be posting my footage of the storm, having watched it come overtop of me from the north before it hit the tower... holy shit the CN tower got struck like 10 times and just took it like a champ

roxxboise I agree...what the hell was that!
@MalcoVich615 pretty sure that was just lightning in a cloud..
Intense!
This is beautiful. I watched this storm like it was a soccer game :) Such an adrenaline booster
Just incase you didnt know, planes are things which go in the sky.
@SLElGHT yeah! what was that?
CN Tower is quite the lightning rod. You'd think Dr.Frankenstein's lab is in the basement.
Too bad scientists wouldn't know how to harness all that electricity since so much of it hits the CN Tower, that's a lot of FREE electricity.
this happened the day before I went to the cn tower!!!
wow wtf!!!
it has to be fucking haarp yo, it might be link to the earthquakes and irene!!!
acually i was watching thunder storms because i am having it in my place thunbs up if this situation is happning with u
looks like a lens effect / reflection
I did the edge walk during this. NBD guys. don't hate how awesome I am. I always walk around the top during thunderstorms. Holla!
um what video camera do you use?
It's crazy because it looks like it's arcing FROM the CN Tower not acring to it. Maybe some sort of ritual was going on inside..maaaaybe?LOL
@MalcoVich615 it could be a ufo, or maybe lightning :/
Is that the CN tower?
@SLElGHT
Its an airplane above the storm clouds.
@MalcoVich615 no sorry for the miss understanding that is me
if we could only harness the electricity for the lightning using the CN tower
@NaNaNaN990 hey ur laughing but check this at1:03 a lighting strikes, iyou pause it, u will notice an enormous cubic shape being lighted up by it, comment on that please!
awwwwwww i missed it :(
i sat down order some pizza sat on my balcony and watched this shit it was so awesome thats why toronto is the best it ha awesome shit like this
