    I have a huge problem using any rice, been or lintel, they all contain carbs. They are low on the index assuming your dog is active. Most senior pets don't have enough activity to burn off the carbs. Fresh green, yellow and red vegetables, lean meat, fish, bird some pork, eggs things the dog would find on the wild. Cooked or fresh prepared with love and care

      Yes my 12 year old is still very much active we swim multiple times a week and he is walked every day at least 40 mins
      There is no reason to stop activity with your older dog as it can cause more problems with muscle wastage which leads to other issues. Best to keep them moving and keep them strong

      You’re right, she’s way off base! My dog 4 years and not blind, home cooked every day no blindness, if my dog ate her recipe she’d be blind and maybe even dead, please if you have a diabetic dog do not do this!!

    You are able to give your pet a small snack during the day, otherwise their super level plummets. I give my dog a few tablespoons of the homemade food.

    My dogs BG is running real high like in the 700's...ive been using Ucal homecooking..i dont feed him per instructions cuz it alit of food for a 20 lb dog ..but he still runs real high..im scared to feed apples,carrots,sweet potatoes any advice

    • @FlawlessPaws
      @FlawlessPaws  Год назад

      Stay away from anything that has carbs or natural sugars in it (potatoes and apples etc) and where you can after meals get him out for exercise as this will bring his levels down naturally as he will use the food he eats in his exercise as opposed to the body trying to convert it.
      Does he have insulin?
      Also 700 seems like insanely high - my dog is considered high when he is in high 20’s?!? What are you testing him with??

      You basically poisoned them with carbs (unintentionally of course.) And now they are experiencing 'carb coma' just as humans would.

      Lung or lites were the main protein source in this recipe. Raw fish was added as well.
      Not only is it super cheap, it has low protein, low fat, low salts and sugars

    The vet told me not to give them anything that’s sweet, so apples, sweet potatoes, and carrots. I’m afraid he does not want to eat those kibbles that the doctor prescribed so instead of gaining some kind of weight he’s losing a lot more because he will not eat.

    • @FlawlessPaws
      @FlawlessPaws  Год назад +1

      In general vets are not well informed on Diabetes and what dogs can and can’t have. Diabetic dogs require a higher fibre amount. Apples are a great fibre source with some other amazing benefits with great nutritional content.
      When cooked the sugars dissipate into the entire meal and many are cooked off so sugars are not something to be concerned about.

      @@FlawlessPaws Vets know about as much health/nutrition as their big pharma overlords allow. Which is not much.

      Yes, My dog does not eat those prescription nibbles. I guess you can omit rice. That's high in carbs. My dog is allergic to grain.

    Our Vet tells us potatoes, including sweet potatoes are too high in starch for our diabetic dog????

    • @FlawlessPaws
      @FlawlessPaws  Год назад

      Potatoes should be avoided
      Sweet potatoes is a safe, healthy, and natural treat for dogs, offering a range of health benefits (and a sweet flavor they'll likely love). For example, sweet potatoes support a healthy digestive system thanks to their high dietary fiber content. They're also low in fat and contain essential vitamins like B6, C, and A. The vitamins support eye health which as a diabetic dog owner knows that cataracts are nearly a given once your dog is diagnosed, so every little helps.
      Only one sweet potato is added to the recipe as they cannot have too much but with it spread over the entire meal it will be no problem
      Hope that helps

    • @FlawlessPaws

      Lung is a very low calorie and low glycemic protein type which is great for diabetic dogs.

    • @FlawlessPaws

      Garlic they can eat and many people have this mistake regarding garlic.
      It is actually extremely beneficial for dogs and can also aid in flea repellent.
      Onions absolutely not - never feed your dogs onions
