Gallunoptimal UR & Maxell XV - Type 1 Cassettes - Review and sound test

That's a 1:1 translation from the "great for everyday recording" on the Maxell UR

I recently purchased Gallun Optimal PT,and they sound much better than Gallun UR,and and they are a lot cheaper. In fact,I was amazed by the cool sound it have,didn't expect that.Recorded on Yamaha kx393 with dolby B and auto calibration.

Unfortunately Richer Sounds don't ship to the Isle of Wight... (language filter on) but did manage to get a couple. As you say Tony, for the price, they're excellent, biased up in my Sony TC-K611S and made some wonderful recordings, I'd honestly go far as to say that they're as good as the TDK-D. Yes indeed I said it. Maybe slightly more "hiss" than a D but dynamically, not far off.

The black slip sheet like on prerecorded cassettes really doesn't make things better aesthetically IMO

What with UR90s being diiscontinued, what would you say is the best value type I tape option today?

I guess Maxwell changed their minds, I check their website along with memorex and none had any new cassettes on their sites. Just blank cd-r and dvd-r media 😢 Here in the U.S.A i guess they have changed their minds anyway.

RTM fox has so far been pretty good, and the Maxell UR's that are still made are in line for it's product range, but that's about it

That Chinese MAXELL UR , has the same almost seethrough tape and crappy shell as the Chinese MAXELL UE in the green wrappers.

I picked some XVC90s up and they're great for everyday recordings but within a few days when I wanted to buy more, they were all sold out! :)

The Gallunoptimal is from an industrial supply company, it looks like it's made for dictation in offices and is probably fine for that purpose.

Any cassette that doesn't get stuck and can be recorded at all will do fine for that. But it doesn't change the fact that this tape is nothing but 💩.
