1:14-1:28 is the most beautiful melody I’ve heard in my life. It’s a “wistfully longing for something/someone” kind of feeling. Chopin was really something special.
The fact that this piece is in a major key absolutely astonishes me. It's such a sad piece of music. It's very romantic yet in some parts it sounds as if a person is in complete despair/desolation.. Beautiful..
Chopin was a romantic artist. He lived during 123 years period without Poland on the map. But Poland was always alive in hearts and minds of polish people. Try to imagine living without everything that you love.
Now this is perfection. I have no idea what Chopin was going thru when he composed this but... This song will always be the end of a credits to a movie, a show, or even life itself.
Listening at 12: 08 AM, May 12, 2024. No matter how many times I listen to this I never get tired of it. This music is divine. This is one of the most beautiful compositions by Chopin, my favorite composer. Every piece he has written brings me close to tears ...
*Liz Melissa Corihuamán Rojas:* Lo has definido perfectamente.
The night of August 6th ... I'm sitting in my kitchen in Texas and I can't stop listening to this Chopin music. I love this music. I listen to it over and over again. This music is so wonderful!
One of, if not the most beautiful compositions of Chopin, my favorite composer. He composed music so effortlessly, so pristine and so beautiful, that it challenges the mind to behold anything more beautiful. I listen to him while driving each day. Magnificent.
Totally agree with you. This piece is wonderful. My father had a recording of it on an old 78 rpm RCA Victor record(the kind that shattered if you dropped them). When I was a child I played it an endless amount of times when I got home from school. It still touches me deeply. Grazie mille for sharing this with us Giuliana Villanueva.
There is no clear evidence why this song sounds so sad. It’s on a major scale with major chords and quite a cheerful rhythm. I think there is something beyond this. Something about our minds and how chopin decided to write it. Fascinating.
There are short modulation to minor keys. Although it is in E Major, the harmony works as if it was in c sharp minor. Because it is written in 4 voices like a STAB chorale it does contain the despair hidden in the inner voices but the top voice sounds major.
+fenerd gameplays when I listen to that music something cold touches my heart and makes some kind of sound or is sense something? sorry I only know french and spanish not italian
This music is so wonderful, I listen to it every day. Too bad Chopin died so young. No telling how many more beautiful pieces he would have left us to enjoy.
Some people don't find this sad especially because if the part in the middle but look at it this way: sadness can be defined as a person's feeling when going from one reality to another that is lesser in quality. In this sense, the part in the middle can be one climactic reality only to end on a low tone from there. Therefore sadness.
In fact, Chopin wrote this piece when he was "exiled" from his beloved Poland, the agony that he felt for not return to that once was his home were the feelings that helped him to compose this piece, despite not spending any work in France he still had their homeland in the heart ... I think this piece was his way of showing his love to Poland of course mixed with sadness .. (sorry for the bad english)
I think the greater tones are symbolizing the psychosis during sadness, when you start breaking into pieces, or explained briefly when you start crying. But when the relaxing tones start you know it is a temporary feeling, sadness, then it comes again and it starts all over again, depresses you and brings you over the edge, only to go and leave again, just a fleeting but returning feeling.
I'm Weird thanks, I’ve been through that, so I kinda understand this piece, always makes me remember the same feeling, fleeting but returning emotion. Makes me remember of a loved one, it’s funny, the loss of someone hurts more when she/he is still alive but is not with you, tears you apart. I start to play the piano sometimes, like creating things out of my sadness and depression, and I don’t even know how to play. Even my friend asked me where did I learn to play or who taught me, but I always answer maybe it’s just my sadness and the memory of my loved one, whom I’ll always keep in my heart even though she hates me by now. That doesn’t mean I can’t continue with my life, but as I said “it’s a fleeting but returning feeling”, truth is I will always keep her on my heart.
I'm Weird and that memory will always hurt me, that’s what I understand of this song, tristesse or sadness is inevitable, despair can tear you apart and always comes and goes.
I don't come here frequently, but do come here routinely. It's kind of like a cycle. I listen to all the music that comes these days, I go back and listen to my favourites, but hen I have no choice I have to come back here and listen to this once again and satiate my heart until it quenches for chopin again. There is a beauty in this song beyond what we can experience and understand on this Earth. I feel sad and blue, but at the same time fulfilled after listening to this, and I mostly come here, when I'm down. Love this music and all of Chopin's beautiful and absolutely unearthly pieces
I'm Korean. Right now i'm standing on the subway listening to Chopin's masterpiece on the way work. Just feel sad to find out that people's just working to live not living to work. With out listening to classical music, i would not be able to feel those feelings in the subway train in the Rush Hour .
Oh my god i just imagined this playing during an action scene, guns blaring in the background as the protagonist has his last moments. The peak matching his actions during his, dance with death. I would love to see that
Benjamin Cox This piece was used as an OST in Maundy Thursday (Korean Movie) which is about a convicted murderer awaiting execution, and the bond he forms with a suicidal young woman who starts visiting him in jail every Thursday.

my parents were not rich so the only real entertainment my mom had was to go to the movies. this instrumental was the theme song for a movie called a man called peter. i remember her coming home crying because this song and the movie of course had made her cry. it took me a long time but i found this recording on an old 78 rpm record. it cost about $1.50 which was a lot of money in those days for a 9 year old. i wonder what happened to that record?
Anyone know who is playing this version of this Chopin Etude Op.10 No.3 'Tristesse'? I really like the force of the player in this one. The piano really speaks to you.
Thanks so much Giuliana Villanueva !!!....
+Michael Lee hmmm..well, hopelessly in love and kinda frustrated...More like gosh dang it, tell me you feel the same way..otherwise, just reject me and I'll move on!!! yes, I'm getting all worked up! hahaha
Merci
So, beautiful yet so fragile and gentle is this melody. In fact, it has defeated the very meaning of a melody as it has become a feeling. Sadness, farewell it has many names, but what about combines them all is this heartbreaking melody. Most beautiful thing I have ever heard. It explains how even sadness, despair can be beautiful. Beyond words, bravo chopin
(Carl Jung)
I remember playing this piece for a period when things weren't so bright and this piece sung to whatever it was I felt inside rather than sadness, tristesse has become nolstagia. it's still sad, but a comforting kind- and even more so since we're all here listening and sharing tristesse (and our love for chopin of course)
I don't know why but it's the first time I listened to this music and when the music was about to end, it made me cry. I don't understand why tears just suddenly flowed from my eyes..
What did I do to deserve this?
i think your has no meaning at all but trying to sound philosophical .. disconnecting the piece itself from its description ..... the essence of the piece equals its description it is firmly connected .. anyway
1:14-1:28 is the most beautiful melody I’ve heard in my life. It’s a “wistfully longing for something/someone” kind of feeling. Chopin was really something special.
Same, just replaying over and over again
This piece of music is also present in Intermezzo from "Cavalleria Rusticana", composed by Pietro Mascagni
I love this melody, it brings to me my most bteautiful memories when I was Young...
You need to hear Arabesque then.
Chopin himself considered it as his best melody ever.
The fact that this piece is in a major key absolutely astonishes me. It's such a sad piece of music. It's very romantic yet in some parts it sounds as if a person is in complete despair/desolation.. Beautiful..
That’s what I always think! And Eb major is the perfect, perfect key for it too. Just so expressive and this performance too is exact

Chopin missed his country. Read the history of Poland of that age.

Chopin has written the most elegant and very beautiful music. I love this piece. You can't describe in words just how beautiful this is ....

my parents were not rich so the only real entertainment my mom had was to go to the movies. this instrumental was the theme song for a movie called a man called peter. i remember her coming home crying because this song and the movie of course had made her cry. it took me a long time but i found this recording on an old 78 rpm record. it cost about $1.50 which was a lot of money in those days for a 9 year old. i wonder what happened to that record?
@Margareta Križanić yes it is. my mom died 3 years ago. she was 91, i am 75
Anyone know who is playing this version of this Chopin Etude Op.10 No.3 'Tristesse'? I really like the force of the player in this one. The piano really speaks to you.

@@marinanery4479 Thanks ! But how did you know ?
Bravo Mr. Chopin ! Quel talent !!!... Merci infiniment Frédéric Chopin !!!...

shame about the video, isn't this breaking someone's copyright?
I was just watching UR video
So many flactuating and passing emotions in just 4 minutes, but the melody remains. I find this amazing.
happy birthday to Chopin- wish you were still around:( xx
+Ellen Diane He'd be 206 years old
RIP
he's always around ♥
❤
I wouldn't describe this as sad more hopelessly in love.
+Michael Lee -- Yes!
+Michael Haering I wouldn't describe it as a song either. It's simply not...
+Alexis Dias he was in love with a woman he was not supposed to be with...
+Michael Lee hmmm..well, hopelessly in love and kinda frustrated...More like gosh dang it, tell me you feel the same way..otherwise, just reject me and I'll move on!!! yes, I'm getting all worked up! hahaha
+Michael Lee like le poor Chat Noir :'(
(IF YOU ARE A MIRACULAR YOU KNNOW WHAT IM TALKIN BOUT)
Merci
Always loved this piece and then heard it in Fullmetal Alchemist and now it makes me feel a little teary.
"Tristesse toujours durera."
- Vincent Van Gogh
Melancólica, tocante e bela ao mesmo tempo! Linda obra! Bravo!
(Carl Jung)
superbe musique
Ouiiii, bonne soiree Gerard; bisous!
bonne nuit fait de beau rêve bisous
This is so wonderful. Music like this makes me live.
I remember playing this piece for a period when things weren't so bright and this piece sung to whatever it was I felt inside
rather than sadness, tristesse has become nolstagia. it's still sad, but a comforting kind- and even more so since we're all here listening and sharing tristesse (and our love for chopin of course)
Im falling in love with chopin's pieces
Denn no me digas!!!
sony G hola a mi también m gusta bastante

this is the sound that tears make
Si, lagrimas de emocion, no de dolor
@@th3kgbdog385 Bene 🙂
bob baggins Oh wow! You’re the smartest guy I’ve ever met!!!!
Thank you! This is one of my favorite pieces!! It’s like being in Heaven.
I used to be a country music fan, but after listening to this masterpiece, I am now a Chopin fan .... from Texas
country is still great too
Chopin's music is magic, profund, indescritible. I love her. 😍😍🎹
Nothing compares. I feel sorry for anyone who hasn't really felt this song.
Belíssima. Sempre me acalma. Me deixa leve. Espetacular.
Chopin è meraviglioso! Il mio preferito! È bello ascoltare ed è bellissimo studiarlo. ...con tutta l'anima. ..con tutto il cuore. ..con tutto il feeling. ..con tutta la delicatezza possibile ed immaginabile. ...
One of my favorites.....thanks for posting.

+Valeria Cenerelli Can you translate it?
Romina Pozzi You made my day, thank you so much!
Meraviglioso
Valeria Cenerelli tout a fait! !
non mi trasmette tristezza, anzi tranquillità e calma
Maybe you're too young. Let's give you sometime. When you lose someone you love them you'll know.
Amo Chopin. Meu compositor favorito.
I don't know why but it's the first time I listened to this music and when the music was about to end, it made me cry.
I don't understand why tears just suddenly flowed from my eyes..
What did I do to deserve this?
This piece is not sad, instead it describes sadness.
Which version would you prefer for this piece?
Sofronitsky's.
i think your has no meaning at all but trying to sound philosophical .. disconnecting the piece itself from its description ..... the essence of the piece equals its description it is firmly connected .. anyway
It's a major key, the song name it's sadness but it feels like hope and little hapiness
no! this peace is beautiful... describes the inner most thoughts of a waterfall, listen closely, its magical.
Sounds sooo beautiful!!
Kinda familiar but different.
I love this....
That someone could compose a beautiful piece of music like this sometimes makes one feel a little inadequate I think, thank you Mr Chopin.
Such beauty.... que hermosa musica.
Chopin - Etude op.10 no.3 "Tristesse"
