Urban People are tired of so called farmer protesters and khalistani elements. Rural population has almost zero contribution towards growth of Punjab. These people take enormous loans in the name of agriculture, and fly to Canada Australia. And send their old people to the roads for karja maafi. Thanks to the Internet, now urban people can see everything.
Mostly it's a divide between diffrence in education levels, influence of rural gurudwaras and farmers opposition of National Govt. It's also got to do with demographics of religion.
Hindu vote consolidated to BJP. Sikh vote divided into AAP, congress and akali. Benefited to congress and BJP and loss to Akali for derailing from panthak politics. BJP fully supported its religion based hindu narrative and akali tried to be non-religious even though it was born out of Sikh causes. Hence Akali leader become joke and loose their own base even in villages. This was BJP best performance even manage to get Sikh and dalit votes in cities. But future is uncertain or maybe bright for independent candidates as Akali, Congress and AAP failed to represent panjabi people. Non-panjabi hindu are encouraged to settle in panjab for nearly three decades to increase hindu population in panjab and now right-wing hindu party BJP is reaping its benefits. Akali failed to rule state since 1966 getting to close to minority hindu panjabi and given space to non-panjabi hindu to come and settle in panjab permanently. Himachal Pradesh made law to restrict panjabi and Haryana people to buy land or buisness since it’s created in 1966 while so called regional akali party failed panjabi people. Now Sikhs have completely ignored Akalis and looking for their space in right-wing BJP hindu india.

In last 10 years BJP govt. In centre did nothing for punjab ,farmers problem , chandigarh issue ,no big factory or industry etc
People from other states are also factor and most of our people went abroad
