    Do you have a video or any info on how you cut the barrel straps….this is the smartest system I have seen (barring lots of money ones)

      I do have a video,after trying a few different saws....table saw was the best,easiest,fastest,and most consistant way to fabricate the straps.
      I now use 3/4"x0.30 ths stainless banding straps for floating docks,but for a barrel boat....id still use the straps made from barrels.
      Both hold great,but the barrel straps look better at the cost of cutting up more barrels.

    Out of curiousity would 4 barrels be enough for an 8x16 float? usually just one or two people on it. Great idea on the straps!

    • @nickpellegrin
      @nickpellegrin  2 месяца назад +2

      Well....each barrel can hold about 220lbs to get down to halfway submerged.....so with the weight of your platform,if 2 people stood on 1 corner id be affraid that corner will go under a be unstable.
      Id go minimium of 8-10 barrels.
      Its better to over build than under.
      6 probably would get the job done.....but would be better.
      If you want to build to hold 600lbs....design for 1200lbs in my opinion.

      No problem,i reply when i see comments.try to be as helpful as i can.....thats the purpose of my channel.
      I built a 8x16 with 10 barrels,guy wanted heavy duty to put a permanant 8x12x6 high scaffold ontop.
      He loves it,very stable with 2 people ontop.
      Over build is always the better option.

    By any chance could you make a video on sealing your barrels or elaborating on your process please and thanks.

    • @nickpellegrin
      @nickpellegrin  Год назад +2

      Actually my barrels are only 2mths old,had a non hazzardous,non toxic chemical in them.my seals are still new.so i just tighten them on factory seals.
      But if i had to seal them in the future,id use brake cleaner/or acetone on caps and bung threads.let dry,then marine 5200 on the threads before tightening.
      If it comes to it,ill make that video.

      No reason it shouldnt,all screws securing batrels are stainless,deck screws are epoxy coated,wood is treated......barreles are hdpe.
      I live on the gulf coast.....no issues after 1 year.

    So what are the straps made of?

    • @nickpellegrin
      @nickpellegrin  Месяц назад

      Cut strips of barrels,very easy using a table saw.

    • @fredartus9571
      @fredartus9571 Месяц назад

      @@nickpellegrin That would mean one would cut a larger diameter barrel than the ones used in the float. If One wanted to use 55 gal barrels for the float, what would you suggest?

    • @nickpellegrin
      @nickpellegrin  Месяц назад

      @@fredartus9571
      No sir a 55 gal barre is recessed inside a frame,and im not wrapping completly around the barrel,just 2/3rds of the barrel.
